Guests/Visitors: Michaela Brussow, Tracy Brussow Judge: Tony Holden The meeting opened at 7.00pm. President Brent Randall opened the meeting welcoming everyone. He advised the group that there were a few apologies for tonight. Brent explained that he was able to attend the meeting because a previous appointment was cancelled a photoshoot from sunrise to evening. Page 1 of 10

2 Tony Holden was welcomed to the meeting and advised he would be showing a slide show of his work later in the evening. He also welcomed questions from members. Tony gave members an insight into his career and highlights. He has over 37 years experience having started working in Georges Camera Store; studying at Griffith University; becoming an active AIPP member, judge, mentor and ambassador for several companies including Nikon. One of the highlights of his career was managing the Digital Photo System at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and establishing Kodak themed entertainment. Tony now teaches and runs a Photographic Retreat in the Scenic Rim. Brent brought up accreditation which was discussed with Tony and the opportunity to photograph sporting clubs, athletic meets and possibly lead to major events such as the Olympics. Tony presented a short slide show on Nikon followed by his own work. He then asked if members had any questions. Ian and Tony discussed last month s critique. Tony emphasised watching the colour on images and calibrating the computer screen as well as the importance of choosing the right paper. Tony feels that photography should be a personal expression unless it is paid work. His favourite go-to lens is a 24mm f/1.8. Tony thanked everyone for listening and Members showed their appreciation. Brent advised Tony would be judging the prints shortly. Supper break was taken. Tony judged the prints and awarded 1 st Wally 2 nd Brent 3 rd Sue Brent had printouts of the Ipswich Photographic Program on the desk for anyone interested. An had been sent to members. He told Members that the Clydesdale show was different to last year in that we did not have access to all areas due to several factors one ring had become two which caused a safety issue. A safety officer had asked members to leave the arena. The club will receive $ from the Show Society. We have the opportunity to photograph next year if we are interested. The Star Party will be on again next year also at the same time as the Clydesdale show. The Logan City Picture This competition is open with two prizes of $5,000 in photographic vouchers. Members were reminded to get this month s critique images in for Open and Portraiture through MyPhotoClub website. The next critique is due before the 30 June. Trevor Warden (Scenic Rim photographer) will be next month s judge. Gary discussed the upcoming Beaudesert Show on the second week of September. The Showgirl was run last Saturday. The closing date for images is August with details on the website. The pictorial category has now been divided into two categories: Local - Scenic Rim and Other National and International. This will give entrants the opportunity to submit seven entries and two framed entries. There will be no size restrictions. The judge will be Tryg Helander. Page 2 of 10

He advised to size prints first before printing. A reminder that APSCON will be held on the Gold Coast and details were sent by email last month.

Judging will take place on Thursday 6 September Brent told Members he had prints done up for the Ekka at Harvey Norman at Booval. He found them helpful and enthusiastic with a good range of papers available. He advised to size prints first before printing. A reminder that APSCON will be held on the Gold Coast and details were sent by last month. Bruce provided an interesting and insightful slide show of his recent visit to Borneo. His images were of the landscape, children, orangutans and various monkeys. He stated how amazing the reflections were on the rivers. Brent thanked members who attended the Clydesdale Show and asked for images to be uploaded by the end of July. There are no set sizes but 1920 x 1080 is our standard upload size. Images are to be sent into President@beaudesertCamera.org.au. Outings for the rest of the year will be sorted shortly. Brent thanked everyone for coming. Meeting closed at 9.00pm. 9 SUBJECT DEFINITIONS Definition Repeating Shapes An image where a series of the same or similar elements are repeated in such a way as to add strength to the overall image. Iconic Australia A widely recognised, well-established symbol of Australia. Industrial An Image depicting any form of industry e.g. machines, buildings, by-products of industry e.g. smoke/steam. The object is to portray the functional side rather than the human side of industry. Document an aspect of the production process. Portrait A photograph of a person that may range from a head study to full body length. Monochrome A photograph containing shades of only ONE colour. If toning is carried out, it must be over the total photograph partial toning and/or the addition of one extra colour is not acceptable as a monochrome subject. Scenic Rim A photograph depicting some aspect of scenery or activity within the Scenic Rim area. People Photograph of people. This section includes candid photographs and formal portraits. Nature Nature photography depicts living, untamed animals and uncultivated plants in a natural habitat, geology and the wide diversity of natural phenomena, from insects to icebergs. Photographs of animals which are domesticated, caged or under any form of restraint, as well as photographs of cultivated plants, are ineligible. Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for nature subjects, such as barn owls or storks, adapting to an environment modified by humans, or natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal waves, reclaiming it. The original image must have been taken by the photographer, whatever photographic medium is used. manipulation or modification to the original image is limited to minor retouching of blemishes and must not alter the content of the original scene. After satisfying the above requirements, every effort should be made to use the highest level of artistic skill in all nature photographs. The APS definition of Nature is too complex to completely define here. Please go to the website for full details: Scape A landscape is a photograph of natural scenery with land and sky-based elements displayed in a pictorial fashion. It may include evidence of man, people, animals, even part of the sea provided that none of these additional elements dominates the photograph. A seascape is a photograph of natural coastal scenery, a wave study, or a picture of the open sea, provided always that the sea is the centre of interest of the photograph. People, boats and man-made structures may be present as incidental to the photograph. Open subject that is treated pictorially, embodying the elements of good design, arrangement or composition, which reflects the personal interpretation of the photographer. Page 9 of 10
