2 PRESIDENT S REPORT If enough people say, enough times, that the photos they are viewing, whether belonging to the Club as a whole or to an individual, are of a high standard, then at some stage you have to start thinking that they may be right. Les, our guest on Tuesday night, said as much about the enlargements and mentioned he had also heard encouraging words from other judges. Entering competitions outside the Club is a means of gauging your own standard and although every entry may not be successful, it is well worth the effort. Thanks to the Baldwins and to Peter for their efforts towards the successful Aperture Workshop it opened many eyes to the finer points of aperture and widened our knowledge of depth of field. July s suggested outing on Saturday 6 th should provide a wide range of photo opportunities. Revisit Shirley s for details of the Abbey Festival. At Tuesday s meeting, the basics of matting were explained. Interest was shown by a number of members. Tony, Ailsa and John helped with instructions and equipment. Cliff has designed and is printing out some Club business cards for members to hand out to anyone they encounter who may be interested in the Club s activities. They should be available at July s meeting. Looking forward to seeing the members take on the Critique subject of Motion for July, Ian DEPTH OF FIELD The zone of sharpness is called the depth-of-field; it extends in front of and behind the focus point. Below are some of the tools and methods we worked on in our Depth of Field workshop. Tamron lense, set at F22 Mal s front lawn Shirley s Gnome s
3 Record of Meeting of Exposure Unlimited - Beaudesert Camera Club Inc. Held at Beaudesert Arts and Information Centre on Tuesday 25h June 2013 Present:-Ian Hinrichsen, Rosemary Hinrichsen, John Staib, Cliff Pottinger, Peter Hill, Shirley Baldwin, Malcolm Baldwin, Tony Spies, Maria Amrein, Rosemarie Worthington, Michael Ashburner, Paul Armytage, Gary Moloney, Brent Randall, Gwenda Wright, Theresa Johnston, John Amos, Earl Starkey, Lawrie Sims, Samantha Papamanolis, Barry Cheeseman, Tom Moon, Ailsa Corlett, Bill Corlett, Ainsley Love, Tim Hawken (26) Apologies: - Bob Hall. Visitors: - Les Harden (Highcove), Natasha Harden, Elias Papamanolis, Dennis Bettridge, Wayne Love. Club Business. The meeting commenced at 7:00 pm with President Ian Hinrichsen welcoming all present and introducing new members and visitors. Ian then spoke about the following points. The Saturday workshop on Aperture was well attended and thanks to presenters and organisers. An outing proposed for July is The Abbey Museum Medieval Festival at Caboolture on 6-7 July. Closing date for July critique photos is Friday 5 th July. The judge will be Gang Wei. The subject for the August critique is Food and Drink. The critique will be conducted by club members and entries are to be sent to critique@beaudesertcamera.com by the end of July. Ian then introduced Les Harden from Highcove Educational Computing Specialists. Les had a comprehensive display of books and photography paraphernalia for sale at competitive prices. He particularly recommended the book See It by Josh and Ellen Anon. This book has also been recommended by Stan Bowles who is a respected photographer and judge and friend of our club. Les also recommended a Glanz monopod with ball head as being a reasonably cheap and useful addition to a photographer's kit. As an Adobe Dealer, Les was asked by Barry Cheeseman about his opinion of the Adobe Cloud. Les seemed to be less than impressed with Adobe's latest actions regarding this product. Workshop. A Matting Workshop was then conducted by Ian assisted by other members. Interested members were shown the tools and techniques needed to produce their own matts for photographic display. Following supper (provided by Maria Amrein), Les Harden judges our enlargements: the winner being Paul Armytage with a beautiful monochrome portrait of his daughter Bell. Second was John Staib's Great Egret in flight and third was Paul (again) with Numinbah Grotto. The meeting closed about 9:05pm The next General Meeting will be held at the Arts and Information Centre on Tuesday 23rd July Shirley Shirley Shirley Cliff Cliff Club outing - Yangan Heavy Horse day

A reminder to all new and existing members to regularly check our clubs web site for up to date information. New members may find the article about Basic Camera Class good reading, see link below. 6 th -7 th JULY The Weekend Tournament patrons can enjoy a range of activities from Jousting to Mock Battles, Dancing, Music, Drama, and wander through the Medieval Market and encampments. There are lots of things to see and do and it is a great day out for the whole family. WHERE: Abbeystowe, 1-63 The Abbey Place Caboolture, QLD. (On the Bruce Highway, take the Bribie Island-Beachmere turnoff, Caboolture-Bribie Island Road, left onto Old Toorbul Point Road) COST: Buy online $24.00 (Concession as well) (We purchased tickets at the gate and I am sure we paid more than $24.00, but had to wait in line for quite awhile. I would suggest buying online before you go) START: 9.00am (Last year we got there early (8.30am) and parked in the closest car-park. When we left around 1 ish there were cars parked for miles. Very busy. One bonus while we were waiting in line they had street performers wandering up and down the road.) Some suggestions: - Interesting day, lots of interesting people, all in costume. They didn t mind you taking photos. - The day started out with a grand parade. All the tribes/camps in costume. Quite a spectacle. - Jousting is great to see. You need to buy a ticket for this; last year it was $1, which was purchased once inside. - Go on Saturday, it may not be as busy as Sunday - Be early. Get a close car park. - When we left we went to Bribie Island and to get to the Bribie Island Road it took forever. I would imagine to get back to the Bruce Highway would be a nightmare. Be prepared to wait for traffic. - There were heaps of reasonably priced food stalls and they had food that we eat today, not what was cooking in some of the camps. - Just take cameras, unless you like lugging your tripod. The festival covers a large area. - We didn t get to see it all. It was a rainy day and by 1 ish we had had enough. We didn t get to the gypsies camp and that would have been colourful. - The oil wrestling matches, mocked battles and fencing tournament were interesting to watch and fun to try and photograph. Mal and I are planning to go on Saturday, leaving Beaudesert around 7.00am. Everyone is welcome to join us. We can work out some car-pooling. Cheers, Shirley.
