1 WEEKEND AWAY IPSWICH PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY 7 9 September 2018 Accommodation We will be staying right on the bend of the river at Tweed Coast Holiday Park Hastings Point (02) Website: Directions: From Ipswich take the Logan Motorway/M2, then head south on the Pacific Motorway/M1 into northern NSW. Exit left onto Clothiers Creek Rd and follow it through to the coast, turning south and following the Tweed Coast Road to your destination. 2 Self Organise Please note! This is a selforganising weekend. You are free to participate in whatever way you desire. There are no expectations if you want to step onto the beach and shoot 1000 images go for it! If you want to sip and chew at a local cafe all weekend feel free! Important Information 1. This is a self-organise weekend. The more Google homework you do before the event, the more you will get out of it. 2. This is not a catered event. Bring your own food or buy locally. Alternatively, eat out there is a small but nice selection of restaurants available at Cabarita. Best coffee is Corner Stop Espresso Bar (Pottsville) and Café Mod Barista (). 3. Pack for a variety of weather it can be warm during the day & very cool come nighttime. You will see that there is a program set out by the event coordinator which you can cut and paste to suit your own style. There s no pressure to follow the program but you will be most welcome to do so if you wish and as you are able. There are no rules...except perhaps that you have to enjoy yourself! Local Hastings Point 4. Bring camera equipment for a variety of photography genre bring everything if you can, especially your tripod, remote shutter cable and polarizing filter. 5. Having had a personal snake encounter on the Hastings Point headlands keep your eyes peeled! Pack snake bandages in your kit. 6. Beware of Blue Ringed Octopus in rockpools which do not look blue until you have upset them!! DEADLY!! 7. Extras: bring a hat, good walking shoes, a torch or headlamp, an umbrella plus midge spray. 8. Prepare for Saturday night workshop on steel wool photography via DIY google research.

3 Program: join in as you wish Friday 7 Sep Saturday 8 Sep Sunday 9 Sep Sunrise 5.53am (First light 4.35am) Morning Lunch 12:00ish Early Afternoon 1-4pm Hastings Point headlands From 5.00am Early morning shoot of rugged coastline at sunrise Park at Hastings Point Lookout (Yugari Drive) and photograph your way around the headlands Whales / dolphin spotting Rock Pool Exploration 9:00am Explore and photograph exquisite rock pool creatures. NOTE: all fauna and flora is protected in this area. BEWARE of blue ringed octopus Explore Cudgera Creek Polarising filter required Self-organise check out Corner Stop Espresso Bar 6/1 Coronation Ave Pottsville Self-organise Check out Cudgen Nature Reserve for birdlife, particularly migratory birds Potts Point (if you are keen) Sunrise, still water reflections, birdlife Or Norries Head For first-light rockscapes Natural Bridge 9:00am Follow Tweed Coast Rd, Clothiers Creek Rd and Cane Road to Niminbah Rd. Pass through Crystal Creek, Chillingham, over the border into Qld, arriving at Natural Bridge, Springbrook National Park on right (1 hour driving time) Self-organise try the Outpost Café at Kunungra (possibly 2.00pm) Head for home Late Afternoon 4pm-5.15pm Sunset 5.34pm Dinnertime Evening Long Exposure Waterscapes: Explore various coves and rocky shorelines around Norries Head Don t forget your tripod Hang out & photograph sunset 6.30pm Cabarita Beach Surf Life Saving Club 7 Pandanus Pde Check into accommodation Star gazing & Astrophotography if you are keen Light-Play & Waterscapes: Hastings Point Beach From 4:00pm Back to the headlands for beautiful water over rocks opportunities and light-play at dusk with Selina Boyle Hastings Point: Photograph southern seascapes during sunset south of the Point 6.15pm Ripples Licensed Café, 1 Tweed Coast Rd Hastings Point :00pm More Light-Play: Hastings Point beach with Selina Boyle

5 W/E Challenge Get ready for the great, weekend away photography Challenge 1. Take heaps of awesome photos during the weekend away 2. Select your best image the image must be taken between 4pm on Friday 7th and 4pm on Sunday 9th October in any location south of Tweed Heads. 3. The image can be processed as you would a nature shot 4. Submit it as a DPI to IPS Club DPI coordinator 5.
