BFA Painting University of the Arts Educator of the Arts since 2003, instructing students from Prek 12. Currently work for UArts Pre College and Continuing Education Programs. Course Description: Students will learn a variety of traditional and contemporary watercolor techniques while developing a unique and individual direction in their work. The overall goal of the course is to nurture and develop independent creative thinking, as well as a dynamic artistic style. Studio demonstration and class work aim to connect contect with process as students develop ideas for work using water based medium pieces. Group and individual critiques are incorporated in all assignments for this course. Course is open to both traditional and abstract artists who want to push the boundaries and experiment; all levels of watercolor students are encouraged to participate. Course Overview This course is to provide a formal understanding of watercolor, and the use of other materials in your work. Through the duration of class students are encouraged to take risks and challenge themselves for ample growth and creative accomplishments. Course Expectations To satisfactorily complete this course students are required learn how to demonstrate full comprehension of materials used and exhibit ambitious and exploratory skills. This course is an

2 opportunity for students to embrace their formal knowledge of watercolor and mixed media and creativity assert their skills through experimentation to formulate a personalized and liberating body of work. Students are expected to contribute to class discussions and to be a reflective student through accepting and giving constructive feedback to yourself, your peers, and your instructor. Prerequisites Classes or Knowledge Required for this Course Basic knowledge of anatomy and the foundations of art: design, value, color, perspective, composition, form, texture. 4 Attendance Attendance is mandatory and essential to your performance. The information needed to complete assignments properly will be given in class. As a student in this course, it is your responsibility to make certain you obtain information covered should you miss a class session. Previously absent students must come to the following class with all of the appropriate work due for that day. All students are expected to arrive to class on time and remain present for the duration of the class. Preferably your own photographs, printed on photopaper (not computer paper), or magazine images. Full value range Incorporate ink and conte. Paint color grids and their secondary s. Identify and match color. Small studies. Demo techniques intro watercolor pencils and pastels Work off colored image or life reference. Use image as a starting point, incorporating experimentation and imagination for a more individualized piece. Intro pastels. Critique Still life. Working in sections based on a collaborative arrangement of objects. Using various mediums to unify the your piece throughout the duration of class. Critique. Mid semester evaluation. Self Portrait. Two day project. Skin studies. Layout a solid base for your painting. Spray with UV resistant Matte Acrylic Coating.
