1 BEGINNERS QUILT (Quilting 101) Have you always wanted to make a quilt but didn t know where to start? We will take you step by step through the process as you make a quilt with rail fence, log cabin, 9-patch and friendship star blocks. We will cover everything including choosing fabrics, rotary cutting, strip piecing, borders, quilting options and binding. Choose from 3 different sizes. Instructors: Sharon Rice & Lynn McCamant. Starting dates November 11, 10am-12:30pm, Jan. 6th 10am-12:30pm, Jan. 8th 6:30pm-9pm, January 10th 1pm-4pm. $80 for 7wks Color Love This block of the month is by Marcus Brothers and the fabric is by the designer Nancy Rink. The design is traditional by the fabrics are modern for an interesting combination. This group will meet once every 2 months on a Tuesday evening starting November 11th. Instructor: Sharon Rice. Nov 11th. 6:30pm9pm. Jan 13th 6:30pm-9pm $45.every 2months. The Marcus Brother BOM is held on the 2nd Sunday from 1:30pm-3:30pm. The year during the Thimbleberries time slot, we will be making this beautiful quilt in reds and creams by Marcus Brothers. Come with a friend and have fun! GARDEN PATCH CATS or DOGS BLOCK OF THE MONTH They re cute and they re sassy they are Garden Patch Cats or Bloomin Dogs! They are also a Block of the Month program. Bag bottoms available from instructor. Instructor: Hermien Dugan Dec 13th 2-5pm $15 In this class we will be working on the techniques needed to piece the double wedding ring pattern. There are many different variations on this timeless pattern. We will concentrate on the traditional pieced and the solid ring patterns. The size of your finished project is up to you, but big or small, you will walk away with the skills to tackle most curved piecing projects head on. Templates sets and accompanying book are required. Have you already taken a DWR class and never finished the project? Returning students are welcome to join us! Refresh you skills while you cheer on those who are just beginning. 3 Brazilian Embroidery Join us for a Brazilian dimensional embroidery beginner s class. The design you will stitch in 3-3hour sessions is simply Irresistible. What s different about Brazilian embroidery? It is stitched with 100% rayon thread and it is three dimensional. The colors are vivid and the stitching comes up off the fabric. The class includes everything you need in a kit except a hoop and scissors. The kit free is $25 paid to the instructor & includes the pattern, thread, needles, threader, and instructions. It is an amazing collections of flowers from a Canadians view. Because of the number and the complexity of the flowers it will take at least 8 weeks the starting on Sunday January 4th from 12pm 3pm. The prerequisite is the Brazilian Embroidery class listed above Instructor: Polly Bigham, Bonnie Fletcher: $80.00 Pattern and Book required: $48.00 GERANIUM BAG This cute little bag is a snap to put together. Make it for spring, or just for fun. We will be able to put most of the bag together in class. Flowers are fused on and can be embellished later. Instructor: Nancy Goldsworthy Feb 11th 11am-3pm. $25 STENCILING ON FABRIC In this class you will learn how to make stencilsboth singular use as well as stencils that can be used multiple times, and then stencil some sample fabrics using fabric paints and a method of discharging dye. The samples you make can be incorporated into other projects quilts, garments, etc. Skill Level: confident beginner and up. This first class will introduce you to the basics of Paper Piecing with an overview of its history and techniques. You will practice on a simple but fun block and I will guide you step by step through the entire pattern and at the end you will be able to look at and understand any paper piecing pattern and then take the next step and tackle a more complex designs and patterns. PINEAPLE 9 PATCH This is a great scrap quilt to use a variety of tone on tone pieces and a color of your choice. It looks lovely in blue, green The method for making the pineapple blocks is slick. Would you like to know how to take the cutting directions and change them to a method you prefer? If these questions are some of the things you have been wondering, this the class for you! Sharon will teach you how blocks are put together and how to use different methods! If you understand basic block construction, you will be able to make any block you would want! 7 APPLIQUE NEEDLE TURN MACHINE QUILTING 101 In the world of applique, the needle turn method yields the smoothest curves and provides the finesse to create the fine details. This class will help you master this relaxing approach to hand applique. Hand applique also severs that umbilical cord that ties you to an electrical outlet and allows you to take your sewing projects outside to the garden, the park or anywhere you wish. The class project will provide the opportunity to master the four elements of applique: convex and concave curves and points and valleys. Students may also bring an applique project of their own choosing if they wish with prior approval from instructor Skill Level: Beginner and up. Instructor: Helene Knott Feb 21st 10am-5pm.$40 This class will cover various approaches to machine quilting as well as troubleshooting tips. Students will bring a simple pieced top (from a pattern provided) ready to practice various techniques and styles of quilting on. You will learn stitching in the ditch, using freezer paper templates, stitching through tracing paper, stippling (both classical and innovative) as well as glean a wealth of tips to make machine quilting your own quilts easier and more pleasurable. Instructor: Helene Knott Jan 18th-25th Noon6pm 2wks $50 FOLK ART ORNAMENTS MAGIC SQUARES Made of wool or felt, stuffed and embellished with an assortment of simple hand embroidery stitches, beads and sequins, these colorful embellished motifs and inspired by the vidid Folk Embroidery of India and Pakistan and are so perfect for Christmas ornaments you may want to make a whole collection of them, or you can applique them into a hand-stitched wool project. Skill Level: beginner and up. (1 day class). Instructor: Helene Knott Dec 7th Noon-5pm. $40 A Magic Square is a mathematical puzzle in which squares in a grid are numbered so that the total of any row or column equals the same number. This 3-D optical Illusion quilt is made from units assembled in a similar fashion to create a random three dimensional effect. The quilt is much easier to make than it appears; a nifty cheater method makes piecing the blocks a breeze. You may choose between a twin-sized or throw sized quilt for your project; or from a quick project, make a table runner. This quilt is particularly lovely make in Batiks (pattern purchase required). 8 LEMOYNES STARS Using the Rapid Fire Ruler from Studio 180 Design, we will make this beautiful quilt. The techniques used in this quilt will actually let you have flat stars! February 10 6pm 9pm $25.00 plus ruler. 2 wks. PAPER PIECED HEARTS This is a great little Valentine quilt, or just plain fun for any day. It is paper pieced for accuracy and comes in two sizes. There are enough papers to make it larger, or make a second quilt. Great project for an intermediate level quilter. It can be embellished with rick rack and lace if desired. Choose plain or fancy pillowcases to give your bedroom a fresh look, or as an easy, special gift. Options include flanges, directional prints, or a combination of techniques. It comes in three sizes...from 18" up to 72". Last year I hung mine up, instead of decorating a regular tree! The pattern has excellent instructions and pre cutting is recommended.
