1 Boxy Stars Truly made from scraps, this quilt is so much fun to make that you probably BEGINNERS QUILT (Quilting 101) Have you always wanted to make a quilt but didn t know where to start? We will take you step by step through the process as you make a quilt with rail fence, log cabin, 9-patch and friendship star blocks. We will cover everything including choosing fabrics, rotary cutting, strip piecing, borders, quilting options and binding. Choose from 3 different sizes. Instructors: Sharon Rice & Lynn McCamant. Instructor: Sharon Rice January 12th $30 4 wks Mid Winter Blues Block of the Month Mid Winter Blues Block of the Month is a stunning quilt made from Hoffman Batiks. It is available in blue, purple or teal with a choice of background between snow or black. Come join us on the second Sunday of the month for a wonderful time of sharing and friendship as we gather information and materials to make this beautiful quilt by Chris Hoover of Whirligig Designs. Cost: $25.00 per month for the kit, $5.00 for class fee. GARDEN PATCH CATS or DOGS BLOCK OF THE MONTH They re cute and they re sassy they are Garden Patch Cats or Bloomin Dogs! They are also a Block of the Month program. You may use any method of applique you wish to create these quirky little kitties or dogs and then assemble them into a quilt. 2 Buggy Barn Club Come work on any Buggy Barn project, whether it s a new quilt or a work in progress. We ll be meeting monthly on Saturdays (check the calendar for exact dates) from 9am-1pm. Tree Quilt This is a very fun and speedy quilt that lends itself to the Holiday season, winter, or just the great outdoors. Make it scrappy or use only a few fabrics. 3 BEGINNING PAPER PIECING Learn to paper piece by doing a block that you will find so easy and loads of fun. This first class will introduce you to the basics of Paper Piecing with an overview of its history and techniques. You will practice on a simple but fun block and I will guide you step by step through the entire pattern and at the end you will be able to look at and understand any paper piecing pattern and then take the next step and tackle a more complex designs and patterns. Come and have some fun and learn another quilting technique! Instructor: Susan Rembecki. Jan 13 th 6pm-9pm, Feb 10th 6pm-9pm. $25 MAGIC SQUARES A Magic Square is a mathematical puzzle in which squares in a grid are numbered so that the total of any row or column equals the same number. This 3-D optical illusion quilt is made from units assembled in a similar fashion to create a random three dimensional effect. The quilt is much easier to make than it appears; a nifty cheater method makes piecing the blocks a breeze. You choose between a twin-sized or throw sized quilt for your project; or for a quick project, make a table runner. This quilt is particularly lovely made in batiks (pattern purchase required). Skill level: Confidant Beginner and up. Instructor: Helene Knott $45 February 16th 10am 5pm 1 wk PRIMATIVE PATHWAYS This project is a real scrap buster and employs a carefree piecing method that requires very little precision. There are a few perfect quarter inch seams involved. Because this quilt does not require templates, it goes together very quickly making it a perfect choice for charity or other utilitarian quilts. Though it is based on scraps, the quilt s charm is enhanced by the use of a bold graphic print such as a stripe for setting off the scraps. Though the block itself is simple to make, some arrangements may require intermediate skills; setting options will be covered in class. Skill level: Beginner Instructor: Helene

6 Double Wedding Ring In this class we will be working on the techniques needed to piece the double wedding ring pattern. There are many different variations on this timeless pattern. We will concentrate on the traditional pieced and the solid ring patterns. The size of your finished project is up to you, but big or small, you will walk away with the skills to tackle most curved piecing projects head on. Templates sets and accompanying book are required. Have you already taken a DWR class and never finished the project? Returning students are welcome to join us! Refresh you skills while you cheer on those who are just beginning. Instructor: Nancy Goldsworthy January 22 Applique Club Make a single block, a wall hanging or any size you choose. The fun will be in choosing what colors to add to each block. Come join in the new applique club, the third Thursday of each month. Learn to hand applique, needle turn and other methods, along with wool applique and machine applique. You will learn how to applique sharp points, smooth curves, and perfect circles. Learn how to use overlays for perfect placement every time and get tips and tricks to a better applique process. No need to gather supplies before hand, as we will discuss these items at the first meeting, Thursday, Jan. 21, 6pm - 8pm. Instructor: Jean Gordon Wednesday Embroider Group Join us on the 4 th Wednesday for embroidery. This year we will be working on Crabapple Hill's Salem Mystery. The first block is out and the members of the Salem Quilt Guild are gathering. We will be starting on January 27 th from 11am- 1pm or 6:30-8pm. If you need something to do while waiting for the next pattern to come out, we will also be working on Kathy Schmitz seasonal patterns.
