We will help you get started with your machine training from the basics such as cleaning and maintenance, to utilitizing standard and optional feet, and mastering your embroidery skills. There is a class for everyone from the most basic and portable Bernette s to the 8 series sewing and embroidery machines, and everything in between. We now offer machine training classes specifically for the 8 series owners. Come and take advantage of these classes that are tailored specifically for this amazing and multifaceted sewing and embroidery machine. To get the most out of your machine training experience please make sure you follow these simple guidelines: 1. You MUST call or stop by and sign up for classes so that we can be prepared for you. Class space is limited and kits are prepared for your use. There is a $5.00 kit fee per class. 2. Please bring your machine manual, pen and paper, 1 spool of sewing or embroidery thread, 1 bobbin with thread, cleaning and repair kit (included with machine) and all your feet to EACH class. 3. Magnification if needed i.e.; reading glasses etc. 4. Please do not bring children with you to class. 5. 6 BRAND NEW CLASSES THREAD PAINTING Thread painting, or free-motion machine embroidery, is a unique way of embellishing your quilts by painting the images on your quilt top, clothing or anywhere your imagination takes you. The quilt top is your canvas and the thread is your paint. In thread painting, because the feed dogs are dropped, you are guiding the hoop and thus maintain control. You are only limited by your imagination as to what images you can paint on fabric.thread painting might look difficult, but it is actually very simple. No advanced skills are necessary and the best part is that no special machine is required. I call it my anyone-can-do-it approach. Set your machine to a straight or zigzag stitch, drop the feed dogs and you are in business. September 21 st 12pm-5pm October 30 th 12pm-5pm 26 BUTTERFLIES BARGELLO MADE EASY Lynn Buske Bargello without all the seams! By definition, a bargello quilt is one that is made of strips of fabric sewn together to create movement. These patterns are very suitable for beginning quilters. If you can sew a straight seam, you can do this! Even though there are so many curves and shapes featured on the quilt, there is no curved piecing whatsoever. More advanced quilters find enjoyment with quilting bargello as well with the simple yet creative piecework and color play. October 10 th UFO DAY - CALLING ALL UN-FINISHED OBJECTS Do you have a class project that you just seem unable to complete. All of our educators are teaming up to HELP YOU OUT! Class fee: $15 October 12 th ALL DAY INTRODUCTION TO PAPER PIECING Heather Miller In this class you will be constructing a paper pieced pillow. Paper piecing is a simple and traditional quilt making technique. Don t be intimidated by the sharp points and precision that can be achieved quite easily with paper piecing. You will construct this 18 inch block in class. It is based on classic flying geese but is a fun and modern interpretation of them. You should have basic quilting skills and a thorough knowledge of your sewing machine to take this class. Class Fee: $50 November 14 th 1pm-5pm 6

12 Quilting Classes INTRO TO QUILTING Heather Miller This class is for the absolute novice quilter or those who want to sharpen their most basic skills. You will make a quilt, start to finish. You ll learn how to choose fabric, cut with a rotary cutter and quilting rulers, stitch blocks together, use a design wall to create your own pattern, as well as sandwich, bind & label a quilt. There will be homework! When you sign up for the class you will receive Lesson 1 choosing & purchasing fabric as well as a list of basic quilting supplies you will need. No pattern is required you will create it as you go! Anything you purchase at Branum s to use in this class will be 20% off. You will need to bring your own machine to class be sure you know how to sew a straight stitch on it. Class fee: $95 September 1 st, 8 th, 15 th, 22 nd & 29 th October 6 th, 13 th, 20 th, 27 th & November 3 rd ADVANCED BEGINNER QUILTING Heather Miller If you have made a basic quilt top and are confident in your rotary cutting, quarter-inch seam stitching, pressing abilities as well as stitching rows together accurately, it may be time to step it up a notch! In this class, we will make 2 quilt blocks each class that will teach you some new techniques and patterns. This will include beginning paper-piecing, making stars, improvisational blocks, machine-applique and other fun techniques! When you have completed the class you will have 12 different blocks that can be assembled into a sampler-type quilt or you can choose some of the blocks to reduplicate to make a more traditional repetitive- patterned top. 15 Important Information CLASS POLICIES Branum s Sewing Volunteer s POCKETS OF LOVE Pockets of Love are FREE gifts for breast cancer patients, stitched by amazingly-talented volunteers. The pockets are a much needed, discreet and spirited way to conceal surgical drain bulbs. We feel that this is the least we could do to provide a little more comfort for those ladies coming out of this terrible surgery. This group is open to anyone who can sew a straight line and would like to volunteer their time to a great cause The volunteer group will have their first meeting on September 14th. Then every first Monday there-after at 10am 12pm. Come meet a special group of ladies for a very special cause. Any questions please call or the store. Payment in full is required at the time of registration. You may register and pay: 1. In person in the store. 2. We reserve the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment. Every attempt will be made to give you 7 days notice if we must cancel a class. You may receive your refund by choosing one of the following methods: a. A full cash refund. b. Transfer the class fee to another class during the same quarter. 2. No refunds will be given after the class begins. No Show - No Refund. 3. If a class fills extremely fast, we sometimes offer a waiting list. Please ask if you are interested. SUPPLY LISTS: 1. Supply lists are given at time of paid registration. The cost of supplies are not included in the class fee unless so noted. 2. Please purchase your supplies before class. Supplies should be purchased at the store. We offer a discount of 10% for class supplies. 3. Please do not wait until the last minute to buy your supplies. As you know, picking out fabric takes time and we would hate for you to miss the beginning of your class. Instructors will not wait for you to begin the class. 4. Typically a minimum of 4 students is required to hold a class. 5. You may want to check with us before you buy your supplies to be sure a class is a go. OTHER INFORMATION: 1. If a class is full you may have your name placed on a waiting list in case a student cancels. 2. No make ups on sewing classes. If you miss a class or need additional help you can make arrangements with the class instructor at her professional fee. 3. Please be considerate of others. Do not bring children to class, wear heavy perfume or use cell phones during class. Please be on time for class or better yet, come 15 minutes early to set up your sewing space. Classes begin promptly at the scheduled time. If you are unable to make the class session, please call so we will know not to expect you. 4. We do have class maximums.
