1 Mini Camp Level: Beginner Level or Higher $75 with Toni Owens Class Newsletter January April 2018 WHAT IS a QUILT CAMP? If you have never attended, you may have no idea what we are talking about. It is designed to provide space to spread out for two days, without interruption from family members, house-hold duties or anything else that gets in your way of productive sewing time. You may come with projects you need to complete or bring new projects you want to start. The only thing we don t do at this camp is spend the night. If you need help in certain areas or some advice to spur you on in the right direction, this is the place to be. You may simply want to be left alone to do your own thing and that is OK too. Lunch and dinner are provided Friday and Saturday. Friday, January 12 and Saturday, January 13-9:30 am 9:30 pm # Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10-9:30 am 9:30 pm # Judy Niemeyer Classes We are excited to offer two different Judy Niemeyer Classes this winter. Jackie Holkum, a certified Quiltworx Instructor, will be teaching I am skilled in performing all Quiltworx techniques and have been trained by Judy herself in the art of teaching them. I am excited at the possibility of sharing these techniques, and my hopeless addiction to Quiltworx patterns. Look for Jackie s classes Compass Rose Table Runner and Fractured Paint Box. Monte Nabors Scissor Sharpening Monte Nabors will be here one day for scissor sharpening. There is nothing more frustrating than to have scissors or knives that do not work properly. Take the time to evaluate your equipment and make sure you mark your calendar for scissor sharpening day. If the date listed is not convenient for you, drop off, and pick up the items that need to be sharpened at your convenience. Pre-payment is required if you are not able to pick them up on the day of sharpening! 2 March 19, 10:00 am 2:00 pm January Classes Snowfolk Level: Beginner Level or Higher 1 session - $10 with Toni Owens Friday, January 19, :00 am 5:00 pm # Come meet these adorable snow ladies Hattie Mae and Ruby Jean. A delightful pair of Snowfolks made from wool, stitched and embellished. They finish at 15 ½ in length x 5 wide. The project is designed as a wall hanging on a finished piece of wood, but could be finished as a pillow. Wood will be available to purchase, should you decide you would like to finish as pictured. EPP Level: Beginner Level or Higher $5 each class with Toni Owens All classes are on Thursdays, 5:30 7:30pm January 25 Hexagons, Elongated Hexagons, Honeycombs # February 22 Kaleidoscopes, Isosceles Triangles # March 22 Mrs. Peach # April 26 Brimfield # So, what is EPP? It's an age-old technique that is used to make quilts by hand. Fabric is basted over a pre-cut paper template and then sewn together to form a quilt. Starting with the basics, you will learn the simple hexagon, elongated hexagon and honeycomb. Additional classes will focus on blocks which Kaleidoscopes, Isosceles and Equilateral triangles, Clamshells, Diamonds, Dresden s and leaves. There are so many beautiful quilts being created from English Paper Piecing, Lucy Boston, Quatro Colors, Floating Diamonds, Brimfield Awakening, 36 Ring Circus, Mrs. Peach and Celestial Stars. Pick your favorite and join in on the fun.

3 Embroidery 101 Level: Beginner Level or Higher $5 each class with Toni Owens All classes are on Fridays, 1-4 January 26 - # February 23 # March 16 - # April 20 - # Learn to Hand Embroidery. Classes will start with the basic embroidery stitches and move into more intricate embellishment stitches. Learn which needles and threads to use to achieve different variations in stitches. Each month we will focus on new stitches while working on a simple project. Compass Rose Table Runner Level: Beginner Level or Higher 1 session - $45 with Jackie Holkum Saturday, January 27 9:30 am 3:00 pm # Size: 22 x 69 Have you always wanted to try paper piecing? Do you love Quiltworx (AKA Judy Niemeyer) patterns but don t know where to start? Then this is the class for you!! In this class, Certified Instructor, Jackie Holkum, will introduce Quiltworx methods and techniques through construction of the Compass Rose block. This block, derived from a traditional Mariner s Compass block, is so impressive yet deceptively simple to make. And though it appears to be circular, there are no curved seams! Join Jackie for this all-day class and unleash the paper piecing lover in you!!!

4 February Classes T-Shirt Quilt Level: Beginning II or higher Basic quiltmaking skills are required for this classes 1 session - $30 with Emilee Dube Saturday, February 3, :00 am 3:30 pm # Is your closet shelf or dresser stuffed with T-shirts that hold sentimental value? Would you like to create something useful with them? Has someone begged you for a T-shirt quilt? Join this class and learn the secrets of making a one-of-a-kind T-shirt quilt as you discover the tricks to preparing the shirts and methods to design your very own T-shirt quilt. You will learn how to determine the optimal block size and how to incorporate designs of all sizes. We will discuss layout options, batting choices, quilting styles. You will be amazed to see how quickly a pile of T-shirts can become a wonderful quilt packed with memories! Basic Quiltmaking Level: Beginner 1 session, 3 parts - $60 with Toni Owens Saturdays: February 10, February 17 and February 24 10:00 am 3:30 pm # This class is designed for the person who knows nothing about quilting, yet also provides helpful hints and tips for those looking to improve their present skills. We start right at the beginning by looking at Fabrics, Color and Notions, then moving on to the correct usage of the rotary cutter, rulers and how to master that quarter-inch seam used in quilt making. You only need to know how to sew a straight stitch. The class specializes in individual attention and hands on training. You will learn how to make Piano Keys, Bricks, checkerboards, Half-Square Triangles and Flying Geese. Hand Applique for Beginners 1 session $35 with Dianne Lee Level Beginner Tuesday, February 13 10:00am 3:00pm # or 5:00pm 9:00pm # We will learn several methods in class - traditional needle turn and then combine some new techniques. The class will cover stems, points, curves and circles to give you confidence to design, embellish or repair that project you have been waiting to start! Watch the stress disappear as you settle in your comfy spot and create a treasure!!

5 Beginning Hand Piecing Level: Beginner 1 session - $20 with Gigi McEver Friday, February 23, :00 am 12:30 pm # Before we had sewing machines, we just used a needle & thread. While I don't plan to ditch my sewing machine, I do still love to hand piece. It's quiet. It's portable. It allows wandering thoughts. It encourages conversation. It's so very relaxing. Come learn a few basics with the simple, straightforward tumbling block pattern. You'll learn how to piece straight seams and y-seams. Trust me, it's much easier to match points using a needle & thread than it is with a sewing machine. Hope to see you! Advanced Hand Applique March Classes 1 session $45 with Dianne Lee Level Beginner II to Intermediate Tuesday, March 13 9:00am 5:00pm # Improve on your appliqué skills while learning to make tighter curves, sharper points and thinner stems as we try a technique that saves time in the process! Machine Applique Level: Beginner 1 session - $25 with Mauri Richey Tuesday, March 27, :00 am 12:00 pm # Machine appliqué opens a whole new world of variety and creativity and is another technique to add to your skills. Mauri will teach you her favorite method raw edge fusible appliqué. Other methods of machine appliqué will be discussed but the emphasis will be on learning the Blanket Stitch and straightline edge stitch. This is a technique class we will spend the class time practicing the stitches on various shapes.

6 Quilt Binding by Machine - Start to Finish Level: Beginner 1 session - $25 with Mauri Richey Tuesday, March 27, :00 pm 4:00 pm # What s the first part of a much-used quilt to wear out? The binding, of course! While hand finished bindings are lovely and a must for heirlooms and quilt shows, they aren t very practical for utility quilts and quilts for kids. I can bind a queen size quilt in about 2 hours and so can you! Come learn my techniques and soon you ll have professional-looking and durable bindings in a fraction of the time it takes to hand stitch one. This class is the perfect follow up to Basic Quiltmaking. April Classes Bias Binding Level: Beginner 1 session - $20 with Gigi McEver Friday, April 20, :30 am - 12:30 pm # Do you cringe at the thought of making a bias binding? Well, cringe no more. In this class you'll learn how to make a "continuous" bias binding. It's quite simple. Bias bindings are perfect for curved edges and a bias stripe makes a dramatic finish to many quilts. We should be done making our bindings before lunch. If you'd like pointers on attaching the binding to your quilt, plan to stay during lunch for that. Hope to see you! Kaffe s Hatbox Level: Beginner 1 session - $35 with Diane Swartzendribler Saturday, April 21, :30 am - 3:30 pm # When I was growing up, a lady would never go to church without her head covered with a great hat. This quilt reminds me of all the hat boxes my mother and grandmother had piled high in their closets and the fun my sister and I had using them to play dress up. The hat boxes and wallpaper in the cubbyholes on this quilt are made from an assortment of scrap materials. You can use all those wonderful floral prints and toiles from your stash.

7 Fractured Paint Box Level: Beginner Level or Higher 1 session - $45 with Jackie Holkum Saturday, April 28, :30 am 3:00 pm # Size: 60 x 70 This bold and beautiful stained-glass look quilt is a perfect introduction to Quiltworx (AKA Judy Niemeyer) foundation piecing methods. Using 2-1/2 strips, quick cutting techniques and just one foundation block, this quilt goes together very easily. Join Jackie for this fun allday class. May Classes One Block Wonder Level: Beginner 1 session - $40 with Toni Owens Saturday, May 5 10:00 am 3:00 pm # One fabric, one block, one beautiful quilt! You will love this method of designing and creating your quilt. The approach begins with the fabric; it is the key element of the quilt. Triangles become Kaleidoscope blocks, each one unique. Just as the mirrors in a kaleidoscope reflect and repeat an image, each triangle repeats color and pattern to create a new design for each block. Once all the blocks are made, you begin to design your quilt. Clubs and Sew Days By Hand With Love Level: All levels 4 session with Gigi McEver- free to anyone who wants to join Attention handwork aficionados! Come join us for three glorious hours of hand sewing. Bring your current project or come plan a new one. We ll share tips on techniques, tools, fabric, patterns and whatever else comes up in conversation. Best of all, we can spend some uninterrupted time with other handwork lovers. 8 Knotty Girls Stitchery Group Level: All levels 4 session with Debbie Aldridge- free to anyone who wants to join Embroidery is popular again and there are so many ways to display your handiwork and so many wonderful images and patterns to stitch. Come join our stitchery group. We meet once a month there is always something to learn and share with each other. Mondays, 1:00pm 4:00pm January 8, February 12, March 12, April 9, 2018 Wool Crazy Club Level: All levels 4 session with Toni Owens- free to anyone who wants to join Continue in the journey of Wool Appliqué and Embroidery. If you are interested in Crazy Patch Quilts, Folk-art appliqué, embellishing with embroidery stitches or just learning to work with wool, this class is for you. You choose your project or design your own crazy patch quilt. Wool and patterns are available to help give you ideas for your wool project. We meet once each month to work on our projects, share stories, stitches, thread and wools. Basic quilt making or sewing required for this class. 9 Sit n Sew Level: All levels Free to anyone who wants to use the classroom to sit and sew. We love our Wednesdays and Thursdays and we love having our customers come sit and sew. You will be amazed at how many projects you can complete in just a matter of weeks. Our goal is to provide a place for our customers to have space to spread out their projects, get guidance if needed, have comfortable surroundings and make lots of new friends.
