1 Winter Workshop Brochure 2019 Weekly Sit & Sew sessions. Great value and an opportunity to meet like-minded people. Why not finish off a project or start a new one. There are no Tutors at these sessions, but we will always try to help where we can. No need to wait to join, just check availability for the day you wish to attend per 3-hour session if you book a block of 4 ( 32.00). Pay as You Go x 3-hour session. We can help you to progress through the quilt making process and working on techniques that will assist you in completing a quilt from start to finish. Together you will work on your very own project of choice. You may have already started a project and have found yourself a bit stuck or you just need that extra bit of motivation to finish a pile of UFOs (Unfinished Objects). Come along and get the help & advice you need. Please get in touch to discuss your project in advance. This workshop is for dressmaking projects (clothes) only but can be for menswear, ladies or children s wear.

4 Dressmaking with Alison AKA BagladyBird Alison AKA BagladyBird has been with Oh Sew Sweet for 2 years now and comes with over 20 years of creative dressmaking and pattern drafting experience. A Fashion Graduate of the Surrey Institute of Art & Design, Alison has specialised in creating bespoke occasion wear in collaboration with a range of clients. We always receive excellent feedback about her knowledge and teaching style very patient and explains things in very good way! We have a couple of classes specifically for beginners and then this year we are going to concentrate on helping you to Build a Handmade Wardrobe that s fit to flatter Using Sew to Grow patterns that are designed to be mixed and matched to create your own perfectly fitting handmade wardrobe. Our workshops will help you to focus your collection and ensure that all your pieces will look cohesive and mix well together. Simple Skirt for Beginners Saturday 26 th January 9.30 am pm This beginner skirt with Alison with an elastic waist is a simple project with tons of variations. A great introduction to sewing and once you have the basic know how there will be no stopping you creating lots of them. A popular class for those just starting out.

5 Kimono Jacket for Beginners Saturday 26 th January pm Kimono style jackets are such a big trend this year. This workshop is ideal for beginner s who already know how to use a sewing machine, a good quick and easy make, ideal to thrown on over a dress on summer evenings, on the beach or dress up a jeans and T-shirt combo. Mastering Your Overlocker Over Locker Day with 1-1 Tuition per hour. (hourly slots to be booked) Sunday 27 th January Never be overwhelmed or outsmarted by your over locker again! The Stella Skirt (Sizes xs-4xl) Saturday 23 rd February This session unravels the mysteries of threading the machine, use of different needles, stitch length and tension control. Having mastered the set-up, we move on to the essentials of handling the differential feed, narrow overlocking and rolled hemming. This dress features contouring princess lines down the front of the dress, with some sneaky hidden pockets. Saturday & Sunday Skills Builder Workshops Oh Sew Crafty Bag with Jane ( Inc. all fabric) Dates: Saturday 12 th January 10-4pm We are bringing back an old favourite with this craft bag class. Jane has done this one several times and we have a special offer that includes all material! Very good for beginners or those who just can t resist a bag. All abilities welcome suitable for 10+. Places fill fast so BOOK NOW Blooming Marvellous Cushion with Bev Free Patten Date: Sunday 13th January Stitch a 3D flower in a vintage style. Gathered and folded flower petals are stitched together to create a delightful flower which is then stitched to a background and finished off with a co ordinating button. Bev will show you how to make the blocks that can then form either a cushion or Bed Runner. Once made these flowers can be added to anything.

8 Love Doves Cushion with Audrey - 35 inc Free Pattern Date: Sunday 20 th January 10.30am 4.00pm Birds of a feather stick together and if you like birds and applique then this workshop is for you. These cute Love Doves make a classy cushion, or they could be put onto a bag. They would make a perfect gift if you know a couple who would love them as much as we do. NEW*** Dresden Plate Machine Embroidery Part 1 with Audrey 40 incs. Embroidery Design Saturday 26th January 10.00am 3.00pm Delightful Dresden this traditional quilting pattern has been created for embroidery machines! Dresden Appliques features 9 patterns plus a blank one for a unique and creative twist. Ok you have the all singing all dancing Embroidery Machine but what else can you do with it? Why not join Audrey on this 2-day workshop and be shown how to get the most out of this fabulous design which combines applique and elaborate embroidery. Day One is loading the embroidery designs and stitching out, then you complete the blocks at home returning later next month to put the blocks together. There are many designs on the disc for you to choose from. Day Two is instruction and complete tuition on how to create this small quilt. Sassy Sunflower Scrap bag and Pin Cushion with Jane 30 Date: Sunday 27 th January 10.30am-4.00pm This one is for a fabulous sewing table accessory. A pincushion and a scrap bag all sewed up together in one of the cutest flowers ever. One is never enough. Cute was never this practical. It even has a pocket to store your snippers. Take 3 fat quarters, a charm pack and a couple of hours and you will have it sewn up. This is a fabulous class and would be wonderful for your sewing room or a great gift for a sewing friend.

9 Branching Out Lap Quilt with Audrey Dates: Saturday 2 nd February 10.00am 4.00pm Another fabulous applique class with Audrey with a unique pattern from America. Owls are on trend again this year and will make a bold statement plus add impact on your quilting. Perfect for baby quilts in either soft or bold colours stitch up the whole branch for a striking quilt or wall hanging. Easy Lattice Beginners Quilt with Bev 40 incs Free Charm Pack Dates: Sunday 3 rd February 10.30am 4.00pm This Beginners Quilt looks complicated but is an easy one for beginners or intermediates. The quilt uses a charm pack (5 x 5 precut squares), which can also be cut from other fabric too) and crisp, white sashing, for an effect that looks like a lattice fence, with pops of bright colour bursting through! Perfect for a Baby Quilt or Adult Quilt in gorgeous vintage colours.

10 Durham Pennies Hand Sewing with Guest Tutor Helen Barnes Dates: Saturday 9 th February 10.00am 4.00pm Explore the patterns and motifs used in the Durham quilts sewn by the girls in the mining villages in northern England. Using these patterns drawn out with old pennies you can then design and quilt a cushion panel to decorate your home. The workshop is designed to enhance your knowledge of the rich heritage of quilts designed and quilted in the north of E ngland, learn about the Weardale chain, feather cable, lovers knot and rose templates along with many other designs inspired by nature. Find out about the people who quilted the designs and the history of these treasured quilts. You will develop the skills of creating a unique Durham design using traditional templates from a central point working outwards to draw out your cushion panel. The design will then be transferred to fabric and be hand quilted in traditional neutral colours or choose brighter colours to create your own modern textile art. At the end of the workshop you will have a unique quilted panel inspired by the Durham quilters which can then be made into a cushion or framed. Scrappy Hearts Quilt with Audrey 35 Dates: Sunday 10 th February 10.30am 4.00pm Have a Heart just in time for Valentine s Day and a wonderful way of expressing your love for someone special. This 37 x 45 small quilt would be perfect for a baby or as a wall hanging. Techniques to learn will include how to sew directly onto your wadding in stitch and flip. Perfect for beginners and already causing a stir in the shop!

11 Rockport Carryall Bag with Jane 35 Dates: Sunday 17 th February 10.30am 4.00pm Large open top bag or basket -- great for holding everything! Channel stitched sides with a large bow. Show off with our magnificent digital prints or pull your unique look all together by using one fabric for the bottom, handles, binding and bow. We will be making the Medium 24"x 42" bag in class. Machine Embroidery Part 2 Delightful Dresden with Audrey 40 Dates: Saturday 23 rd February October 10.00am 3.00pm Day 2 of this fabulous Machine Embroidery Class with Audrey and the chance to finish off your beautiful Lap Quilt. Must have complete part One. The Wefty Tool Cushion with Bev 40 inc Wefty Tool Dates: Sunday 24 th February pm The WEFTY is designed specifically for use with fabric strips, either cut width of fabric or on the bias, single or double fold. Another NEW Tool from America and we just know it will work fabulously with our Sasher Tools! On this class Bev will walk through every step of the weaving process * Make a woven panel 16 x 18 inches * Includes instructions for a cushion

12 Lolly the Elephant Pouffe with Jane 35 incs Pattern Dates: Saturday 2 nd March 10.00am 4.00pm I m off to the Jungle laughs the merry toddler seated on Lolly the Jumbo s back. Any child would be thrilled to possess such a wonderful toy. Based on a pattern from the 1960 s passed onto us by Dawn one of our customers, Lolly is a pouffesized toy on which a toddler can ride! Make him out of tweeds or in a beautiful patchwork style, he is bound to be popular. Using your Walking Foot in Quilting with Audrey 30 Dates: Sunday 3rd March 10.30am 4.00pm Do you want to do more than Stitch in the Ditch when it comes to quilting those quilts? Then this is a class for you bring your walking foot (even feed foot) and learn to create fancy stitches, cross hatch, curved lines, and even cables, with no or little marking out. At the end of the session you will have quilting samples to take home and lots of ideas for the future. Pretty Daisy Patches Quilt Part 1 with Audrey 35 Dates: Saturday 9 th March 10.00am 4.00pm Where traditional meets modern, this workshop will be over 2 sessions and covers both applique and piecing. The pretty Daisy Patch quilt measures 64 x 90 and skills will be joining strips and blocks then adding the flowers and a great way to use up those scraps. This is recommended for quilters with beginning to intermediate piecing and applique experience.

13 Creative stitch: Unique wall art picture with Guest Tutor Helen Moyes 45 Dates: Sunday 10 th March 10.30am 4.00pm Come and play with Helen, who is a Textile Artist, and learn how to use a range of textile art materials. Takehome lots of knowledge and samples as well as your own design. Class includes painting on fabric and textile art materials, machine embroidery: drawing with stitch techniques and maybe Incorporate embellishments and found objects. Townsville Wool Applique Runner with Audrey Dates: Saturday 16 th March 10.00am 4.00pm We are super excited about this new technique of Wool Felt Applique as it s easy to get stuck in a rut with your quilting and this offers a new skill to try. You will learn how to applique wool felt, which is different from appliqueing cotton. The project is a row of coloured houses, lined by trees. This small quilt is perfect to use over a doorway or on a table. Pretty Dresses Applique with Bev 35 inc FREE Pattern Dates: Sunday 17 th March pm Easy machine applique blocks using the Pretty Dresses Pattern. A great way to use up all those pretty fabrics in your stash oh what fun we just love this quilt. Lots of pretty fabrics and easy machine applique. You can even add embellishments, like buttons and lace.

14 Pretty Daisy Patches Part 2 with Audrey 35 Dates: Sunday 24 th March pm Part Two of this pretty Daisy Patch quilt to complete your blocks and finishing off. You will need to have completed Part One. Hortense the Mouse with Jane 35 with Pattern Dates: Saturday 30 th March pm Another fabulous Toy Making Workshop with Jane, they are always popular so make sur you get your name down quick! This pattern from 14 Days a Week to make an adorable, snuggly mouse and her undies as shown. Additional patterns are available to make a wardrobe suitable for a well-dressed mouse for every occasion. Finished mouse is approximately 19" tall. Introduction to The Sasher Tool with Bev each session or both for 25 Dates: Sunday 31 st March 10.30am 1.00pm Session 1, Session 2 is 1.30pm 4.00pm As seen on Hochanda TV our Bev will be offering a class on tips and techniques for the brilliant Sasher Tool. We are running a ½ Day AM Session on the fantastic Sasher and how best to use it.

15 The PM session offers you the opportunity to bring along any project that you would like help with involving Sashing or if you haven t got one then we can start you off on building your Quilt as You Go blocks. Come and see what all the fuss is about! PS and be highly entertained by Bev Camden Bags with Jane 35 with Pattern Dates: Saturday 6 th April pm A brilliant zigzag stitched bag and another great pattern by Aunties Two. This bag is sure to be a winner as no shaping required! Simply made from a rectangle for the sides and an oval for the bottom. Can be made using a Jelly roll or a fabulous digital panel perhaps! In this class you will make the medium bag but be given the pattern for the small and large bag to make later too. Classic Table Runner with Audrey Dates: Sunday 7 th April pm Table runners are always a popular class and this one is no exception. Using simple piecing this Checker Border Runner is perfect to grace any table or dresser top. Perfect for Beginners or Intermediates.

16 Lounge Around Pillow with Audrey 35 Dates: Saturday 13 th April pm This class involves using decorative yo-yos on a rectangle shaped pillow. Choose contemporary fabrics for a modern take on traditional hand sewn yoyo s and complete the pillows with some simple machine piecing and quilting. Rectangular pillow measures 27" x17". Faux Chenille Techniques with Guest Tutor Helen Moyes Dates: Sunday 14 th April 10.30am 1pm A great workshop to those fairly new to using a sewing machine. Layering, stitching and slashing to produce a lovely panel. Experiment with different types of fabric, denim, velvet and sheers. Free Machine Doodling with Guest Tutor Helen Moyes 25 or 40 for both Dates: Sunday 14 th April 1.30pm 4.30pm Join Helen, our newest Textile Artist Tutor and learn how to draw with a sewing machine. You will be taught how to set up a sewing machine ready for free-machine embroidery, have a go at doodling with the machine it easy and lot of fun.

17 Lacy Bloom Table Topper with Bev 35 Dates: Sunday 21 st April 10.30am 4.00pm Stop and smell the flowers with this happy table topper. Applique flower shapes and trim away the extra felt to give your runner a lacy look. Plus, how different too is the Circle shape you will be the envy of your friends with this beauty! Indian Kantha with Guest Tutor Helen Barnes 45 Dates: Saturday 27 th April 10.00am 4.00pm Discover the delights of colour and stitch using traditional hand stitch from Bengal, India. Design and create an attractive, unique sketch book cover while immersing yourself in the Indian culture. The workshop is designed to enhance your knowledge of Indian kantha work you will study patterns and techniques used by the Muslim and Hindu communities and see how they vary in motifs and the overall composition of a hanging, bag or mat. You will develop the skills of using the kantha running stitch to create texture and pattern. Appliqué skills will be taught which can be used to add a decorative kantha motif to your book cover. At the end of the workshop you will have a book cover made from kantha cloth with an appliquéd Indian motif to use for notes or sketch ing. Bitty Bag with Jane 40 inc Quiltsmart Fusible Interfacing Dates: Sunday 28 th April 10.30am 4.00pm The Bitty Bag is a small bag but perfect for your wool projects, snacks, cosmetics or as an evening bag. Using Quiltsmart printed fusible interfacing this simple technique makes the assembly super easy! Great for 2 ½ strips or charm pack.

18 **Materials only included where stated, please feel free to bring your own fabric if you wish to do so. It is advisable to bring your own cottons, bobbins, scissors etc. to all classes. Please check beforehand for a full list of requirement s per class Some equipment is available within classes such as rotary cutters and mats, however there is often not enough to go around a full class so you will therefore be required to share. We like to encourage you to bring your own machine but please ensure it is in full working order. Wombwell Train Station is 2 minutes away which also has free car parking. We are just off JCT 36 of the M1 motorway towards Cortonwood Retail Park. Monday pm, Tuesday pm, Wednesday 9.00am 9pm, Thursday & Friday 9.00am -4.00pm, Saturday pm, Sunday 10.30am- 4pm. Watch Lorrayne & Bev on Hochanda TV shopping channel. They will demo Sashers, kits, patterns and more. They are rapidly becoming a firm favourite with the presenters and customers alike.

We can supply all makes of machines. Call in for a demo. We have plenty of car parking and can accept bus trips (Please book in advance). We can arrange demonstrations for group bookings, lunch, Afternoon Tea s all in a beautiful shop with friendly, helpful staff. Our onsite café is now managed and operated by Jangelynne.
