1 We s t S u b u r b a n Q u i l t e r s G u i l d F ro m t h e P r e s i d e n t B e t t y L e r n e r President s Message: February 2014 Can you believe the Quilt Show is only a Month away? We all have a lot to do to put the pieces together. This seems good time to have some reminders. a 1. Raffle tickets: Please return you raffle ticket money at the February meeting, but don t give up selling. 2. Quilts Have you registered your quilts? You only have until February 22 to register. The forms are on the Quilt Show page on the web site. If you don t have access to a computer; call a friend or me to help you. 3. Boutique Have you made some items for the Boutique? Gloria and Patty would appreciate having them as soon as possible. Let s try to give them so many things that they will need the whole month to price them all. 4. Volunteering You can sign up for specific jobs on the computer. Just go to the Quilt Show page on the web site and follow the directions. If you have questions or difficulty, call Wendy Rieves. 5. Publicity Have you put bookmarks and flyers everywhere? Even people who don t sew enjoy a good quilt show. And spend lots of money on handmade items at the boutique. I put some out at my gym. Two people said they were coming and one might join the Guild. Who knew? Let s make Putting the Pieces Together the best Quilt Show ever! Additionally, she showed pictures of the big 5 African animals with the corresponding embroidered version as well as examples of tribal peoples, cultural, and geographic items. 4 Quilt Tip or Tool Clover Wonder Clips I love these clips coming now in 2 sizes. They make putting on a binding a breeze and pin free. If you have never used them they work like a paper clip, securing the binding without pins; just fold over and clip. Remove the clips as you come to them. Available at most quilt and fabric shops. Melt butter in microwave, stir in peanut butter and add chocolate and butterscotch chips. Heat until melted about 1 1½ minutes, remove and stir. You may need to micro an additional seconds until smooth and creamy upon stirring. Pour over marshmallows and refrigerate or place in a cool place to chill until firm. This will take about a ½ hour. Cut and serve. I like to see the color of the marshmallows on the top, but other recipes call for you to let the chocolate mixture cool a bit and then add the marshmallows, with nuts and coconut, if desired, to the chocolate, stir and place mixture into a 9 x13 pan WSQG -Quilt Show Mark your calendars Putting the Pieces March 14 & 15,2014 Together Mount Mary University 4
