Jax Cooper Patoka was born on the 21st. Hew weighed 6lbs.4 oz. I see good things happening with the League. The Teen Camp was great, with 12 attending. They want to come back again next year and told us what they want to do. A few hae also come to our painting class. If you know of a good fund raiser for the League please let us know. Please remember to be respectful of our members when they are here. Please don t monopolize their time doing stuff for you. They may only have a little time to work on their project. We don t want to lose members by doing this. Work is starting for our Christmas Bazaar and it s going to be great! If you would like to help with this, get in touch with Vickie or Char. We are working with Jo Ellen on getting a wood working class going. She went from being your President for 10 years to being Sculpting Coordinator. Please thank her for all her hard work. Sampler days have been going well. Your board members give their time to keep your League working. Please thank them for their hard work. If you have an idea for a class please let them know. I have to go do my Grammy duties. Have a great day! Jan VERY BEGINNERS LINE DANCE Mineola League of the Arts starting September 4th from 4:30 to 5:30pm for 6 weeks, ending October 9th. Fee is $30 for 6 weeks and must be paid on the first day of class. Call if you have any questions. If you know of anyone that would like to start line dancing then this would be the class to take. Call the League to register Office Hours: Monday Thursday 8:00am - 5:00pm * Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm Lunch Hour: 12:30-1:30pm - It does vary, depending on circumstances at the League. 2 FIBER/ART GUILD Vera Fingerle, Guild Coordinator Rug Hooking is still meeting the first Thursday of every month at 10am. Temari Ball meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Bear Canvas class has been cancelled for this month. Be sure to check in next month on the 4th Thursday at 10am for this class to resume. Crochet/Knit has moved to Mondays at 10am with another group in Fiber Arts. Everyone is welcome to attend. Spin and Weaving are the first, second and fourth Wednesdays of the month and also the fifth if there is one. November Fiber Arts Exhibition is coming up the second week of November. Be prepared to enter some of your Fiber Art projects for public viewing. Quilt Guild Mary Fette - Guild Coordinator Kathy Grabill has passed the Mantel to Mary Fette who will be the new coordinator. Also the Civil War fabric that was in the quilt room in a big tub is missing. If anyone knows the whereabouts could you please let us know. The Civil War fabric is very expensive and was donated to the quilt guild to use in various projects. Nancy Sagebrush showed Tumbling Blocks in bright colors of green tones - beautiful! Gaye McNett showed a Stack n Whack with Friendship stars - beautiful! Second Monday is Birthday Lunch. Quilt show is coming up - October 12 & 13. Be prepare to have your quilt ready for entry. Entries are only $5 each quilt. If you are head of a committee: Please write your report and attach it to an to auntmarys@aol.com Reports will be printed and save time during the meeting. LINE DANCE GUILD Melva McClenny, Guild Coordinator Mthly Meeting 1st Tuesday There will be a VERY BEGINNER line dance class beginning Tuesday, September 4th going through October 9th from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. This is for very very beginners. The cost is $30 for 6 weeks and must be paid at beginning of class. The line dancers are still going to the nursing homes on the first Friday of every month dancing and playing the tambourines. It is very entertaining for the folks in the nursing home. Some of them really get into the music! There are several of us going to the Jamboree in Waco this October. It is still not too late for some of you to sign up. Our luncheon day is the second Friday, we also have our meeting that same day around 10:30am. SCULPTING AND 3 DIMENSIONAL ART GUILD Jo Ellen West, Guild Coordinator I still have lots of bisque fired pieces that need to be glazed. After your rest from Kid s camp, Teen Camp and Sampler Week, let s try to get this done. I had 6 students in sampler week class. Barbara rolled out slabs of clay and I helped get all started on a small project. Students did well trying various shapes. This time we used high fire terra cotta clay. I am anxious to see final results. Check the calendar in newsletter to see some dates I picked out to glaze or start a new project. PAINTERS GUILD Sherry Spencer, Guild Coordinator Jo Ellen The coming months are going to be busy for the MLOTA Painters Guild. We have our monthly business meeting and demonstration by Barbara Braun on painting with alcohol ink. That will be Monday, August 27th at 2pm. Later that week, Lee Meriweather is presenting a two day workshop, Friday focuses on landscapes and Saturday on floral painting. The classes are already booked to capacity. So maybe we can convince her to return for another round. The weekend of September Kathy Tate will be presenting a still life in oil painting. There are still a few openings for that class. Though it is a while away, Mileah Hall is scheduled for a color theory class on Saturday, November 3rd. We are also making plans for painting a backdrop for the Photographers Guild to use during the Christmas Bazaar. Get ready to buy raffle tickets! The committee has been hard at work deciding all the details. They will be making a report at the business meeting. Sherry 2

Meeting September 27th Topic: Composition Rules and Suggestions on making an image better. Beginners or advanced, I m positive that there will be something to learn when everyone discusses this important issue. Composition is also important to painters, hope y all join us! October 25th Getting ready for Christmas Bazaar Community Photo Shoot. Please check out our Facebook page (Mineola League of the Arts Photography Guild) to see all that we are doing. The photography guild is active and growing. We have some great upcoming events and be sure to watch our next Play Day, held on random Saturday mornings. We now have payment by PayPal on the website. You can pay your membership fees YOGA - Marsha Fehl Coffee Painting Barbara Braun 3 Artist, Lee Meriweather presented a great demonstration of drawing trees. The League is offering a beginning yoga class for Seniors where you can learn to stretch all the muscles in your body very slowly in order to feel younger and become more active in your everyday life. It doesn t happen overnight, but you will gradually progress and within a few months greater improvements to your health will become obvious. You will also improve your breath and overall lung function. It s a proven fact that yoga improves all aspects of your health. Please join us on Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm every week and give your body the boost it needs. $6.00/class with League Membership.
