There are some big things happening around HoH! Great news coverage, large numbers of visitors, enthusiastic singing, in-active members returning, terrific new music, outstanding local shows, an upcoming trophy performance and annual show, a growing number of HoH quartets not to mention the Heralds 15th trip to the BHS International chorus contest to be held in beautiful Denver, Colorado. It is indeed a great time to be a Herald. Here s a recent endorsement from Colonel Ron Buchert of MacDill Air Force Base: To say that the Heralds' performance at our MOAA Christmas Party was fantastic would be an understatement. Quite simply put--it was the best that we've had since I became a member of the chapter in 1987! Every opportunity people get they tell me how much they enjoyed the show. You had the perfect blend of holiday music, patriotic music, and humor. Our goal is to continue the wave of growth and excitement that is now in motion and we d love to have YOU join us. Experiencing even a single moment with the Heralds could change your life! It s happened before and it ll happen again. OUR NEXT REHEARSAL Tuesday, February 6 Rehearsal starts at 7 p.m. (INCLUDING SWANEE SECTIONALS)...and our weekly afterglow at Weekly rehearsals: Tues, 7PM at Scottish Rite Auditorium, 5500 Memorial Blvd Tampa Map link:

2 Page 2 Rrrrrrrr. Matey. Recognize these villainous swabbies? (From Left to Right, it s Dan McFarlane, Steve Matheson, John Johanson, and Jim Colvin. Better known as FLEX 4 ) On January 27 this pirate foursome sailed on their bikes through the festivities of Gasparilla singing to all who had the misfortune of falling beneath the shadow of their flag! We re not sure they did much for the world of fashion, but they did a great job of entertaining the masses in the barbershop style! According to HoH V.P. for membership, Bruce Yeager, The best way to grow the chorus membership is to have each active member make the commitment to duplicate himself in the chorus this year." What about you? Have you invited someone to join you at rehearsal and discover the awesome thrill of being a Herald? DISTRICT TROPHY PERFORMANCE Jacksonville, May 5 As reigning district chorus champs, the Heralds will be singing away the trophy at this spring s annual district convention. Upon winning the title at last springs contest, the Heralds are ineligible to win again for another 3 years. It is customary, however, to sing as current district champions at the convention that follows the victory. SO all Heralds should plan to make the journey north to sing with pride as only the Heralds can. There is no other chorus in the state that holds the credentials and musical pedigree of HoH, and this trophy performance is one of those moments when we prove it. Be watching for more details soon. MAY 5 - in JACKSONVILLE! PS Yeah, these 2 will be singing too. But we ll do our best to not let them spoil it for the rest of us! HOUSING RESERVATIONS FOR DENVER Nick Schwob is taking orders for hotel rooms for all Heralds traveling to Denver this summer. There is a reservation form for your use and it needs to be submitted to Nick by FEBRUARY 15. You may find the form for download within the members area of the HoH site. (Look inside the section called CONTEST AND CONVENTION INFO for the file called: denver_housing_request_form.pdf ) THE HERALDS B.O.T.M. (Barbershopper of the Month) for December 06 is Jeff Lathom for all his indispensable work during our recent Christmas shows at TBPAC. He even loaned us the authentic barber chair!

We will also continue to work on show prep for our Feb. 18th performance at the Crossroads Community Church in Largo. Take out a big red pen and circle MAY 26, On that Saturday, the great Central Florida Chapter s HEART OF FLORIDA CHORUS will be hosting a spectacular Benefit for all the 2007 International qualifiers from the Sunshine District. The two shows that day will take place in the beautiful VILLAGES, south of Ocala. The Heralds gave a performance in this delightful community a few years ago to a packed house and a terrific, responsive audience. And, once again, the Heart of Florida Chapter is preparing to generate fantastic support and very significant financial assistance to all of our district s Denver competitors. Every Herald should plan to sing at these performances. It s the least we can do for such generous fellow barbershoppers.

The youngest quartet among the competitors, members of Great Honk are tenor Shane Scott, lead Eddie Holt, baritone Drew Ellis and bass Jay Hawkins. The quartet name is a reference to The Music Man, which opened on Broadway 50 years ago with the Buffalo Bills starring as the School Board Quartet. Great Honk captured medals, trophies and a check for $3000 as first prize.

13 ANOTHER LOVELY DAY IN LARGO On Sunday, February 18, 2007, the Heralds performed in a return engagement to a wonderful congregation in Largo. The staff and parishioners of CROSSROADS CHRISTIAN CHURCH opened their facilities and their hearts to the chorus just one year after our first concert with them to kick off their fiftieth anniversary year back in February Last Call once again joined the Heralds to delight the afternoon s full-house audience with some great singing and lots laughter And, it was all topped off with an old-fashioned ice-cream social. Rumors are already beginning to surface about a three-peat in Largo. If that comes to pass, it will certainly be A-OK with the Heralds! 15 Page 3 THE BACK PAGE A TOUCHING STORY - Share and Share Alike An elderly couple walk into a fast food restaurant. They order one only hamburger, one order of fries and one drink. The old man unwraps the plain hamburger and carefully cuts it in half. He places one half in front of his wife. He then carefully counts out the fries, dividing them into two piles and neatly placing one pile in front of his wife. He takes a sip of the drink, his wife takes a sip and then sets the cup down between them. As he begins to eat his few bites of hamburger, the people around them keep looking over and whispering, "That poor old couple. All they can afford is one meal for the two of them." As the old man begins to eat his fries, a young man comes to the table. He politely offers to buy another meal for the couple. The old man replies that they're just fine; they're just used to sharing everything. The surrounding people notice that the little old lady hasn't eaten a bite. She sits there watching her husband eat and occasionally takes a sip of the drink. Again the young man comes over and begs them to let him buy them another meal. This time the old woman says, "No, thank you. We are used to sharing everything." Finally, the old man finishes and wipes his face neatly with the napkin. The young man again comes over to the little old lady who has yet to eat a single bite of food and says, "May I ask what is it you are waiting for?" The old woman answers, "The teeth."
