2008 학년도대학수학능력시험 6 월모의평가듣기대본 M: The samples of our club logo are finally here. Take a look. W: Hey, they look pretty good! Which one do you like? M: I like the triangular one. W: I like it, too. But why don t we think about the others first? M: OK. How about the square one or the circular one? Are they too plain? W: Definitely. M: How about the diamond-shaped one? It s cool. W: Umm... It s so so. What do you think of the flower-shaped one? M: Well, I don t like it. W: Then we only have two choices: the triangular one or the diamond-shaped one. M: Yes, but too many clubs these days are using the diamond-shaped one. W: I agree. Let s be unique.

W: Hi, Jason! What can I do for you? M: Well, Ms. Thomson, it s about the exhibition next week. I think I need more time to prepare. W: I m sorry, Jason, but there isn t any more time. The 2007 Art Exhibition is scheduled to open next Thursday. M: This exhibition is so important that I m getting nervous. If I don t participate, I ll have to wait for another year. W: I understand that, but I m giving you space in this show because I believe in you as a young artist. M: I really appreciate that. W: But, as you know, if you cannot make it, I have to give your space to another artist. M: I know. That s what concerns me the most.

M: All right. I ll tell you a few things you have to keep in mind. Before you climb, check all of your equipment carefully. Make sure you have an emergency kit and some emergency food. Tell someone where you re going and when you ll be back. During your climb, rest and drink water often. And if you think you re physically worn out, don t push yourself to climb to the top of the mountain. Well, that s it. Have a great time and remember, safety first!

W: Excuse me, sir. I was wondering if I could ask you a huge favor. M: Yes, what is it? W: Well, are you sitting with anyone? M: No. W: Oh, then, would you switch seats with my friend? We bought tickets at the last minute and were not able to get seats next to each other. M: Where s your friend s seat? W: She s sitting five rows forward towards the screen. M: No problem. Let me just get my coat. W: Thank you so much.

M: Jane, it s time to finish. W: Finally. It s been a long day. M: How many hours did you work today? W: Eight. M: OK. Eight hours. [pause] You ll get your voluntary work certificate in a minute. How was work? W: Frankly, it was difficult working in a nursing home because I usually don t clean and do laundry at home. M: Ah, that s why you look tired. Anyway, what was the best part of your day? W: Helping the elderly exercise. We had a lot of fun. M: Well, it sounds like you had a great experience. W: I did and I learned a lot. M: Good. Here s your certificate. Submit it to your teacher. W: Thanks.

M: Susan, what s wrong? You look stressed. W: I have to do a field trip report by next week, but it isn t easy. M: Well, let s see... Did you choose the place? W: Yeah, I chose the Central National Museum. M: The Central National Museum? I did a report on that place last year. Maybe I can help. W: That would be great! M: Well, the next step is to get some information from the Internet. W: Can you tell me an address? M: Sure. Umm... I used a site called w w w dot F D P L A C E dot com. W: Thanks. That ll help me a lot. M: No problem. How are you going to get there? W: Well, I ll take the subway.

W: Good afternoon, everyone. I m here to announce a great opportunity for those of you who want to improve your English writing skills. We re opening a free tutoring service with native speakers of English from the Department of English Language and Literature. Our writing instructors will help you plan, edit, or revise your writing. If you want help with your essays, papers, and writing projects, you can make an appointment with us. We ll be open Monday through Friday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

MP3 W: Hi, Gilbert. What are you looking at? M: Oh, hi, Sally. I m looking at an advertisement for MP3 players. I want something that holds lots of songs and is not expensive. W: Well, this one holds more than 100 songs and this one holds over 200. M: Yeah, but I want more memory, if possible. Hey, look at this one. It can hold 400 songs and the price is good. W: It s nice, but this one is better. The advertisement says it holds over 800 songs. M: That one s too expensive. W: Oh, well, what about this one? It s really cheap. M: No. It only holds 100 songs. W: Do you really need to carry more than 100 songs? M: Are you kidding? I ride the bus for hours every day and I get bored quickly. I need something that can hold at least 400. W: So, what are you going to do? M: Umm... I ll get the one that can hold as many songs as possible and that I can afford.

W: Number 132, please. M: Ah, right here. W: How can I help you? M: Could you take a look at my cell phone? The screen is broken. W: Oh, how did this happen? M: I dropped it at the library. W: Ah, well, let me check. OK, we can repair it, but it ll be $ M: That sounds fine. How long will it take to repair it? W: It should be ready for pickup in about half an hour. M: Great. I m going to walk over to the coffee shop next door, and I ll be back in a while. W: OK. Here s your receipt.

[Telephone rings.] M: Hello? W: Hi, Michael. It s me, Jennifer. How s my puppy? M: He s fine. I took him for a walk in the park and he s sleeping now. W: Thanks for taking care of him. I ll be there to pick him up in an hour. I m going to take him to the animal hospital near your place for some shots. M: Oh, I see. If you re busy, I could take him there for you. W: No, I don t want to bother you. You ve already helped so much. M: Don t worry about it. It s really no trouble. W: Actually, I do have to go to the post office. If you could take him to the hospital, that would be great. M: No worries. Anything I can do to help would be my pleasure. W: You re a great friend!

W: Have you made a decision about Dave Simson s promotion? M: Not yet. What do you think? W: Well, according to his evaluation form, he s good in the two categories of following instructions and working well with the team. Which skill do you think is essential to the position? M: Understanding the job. W: I agree. His evaluation says he s excellent in that category. M: I know. But... W: But, what? M: Well, the position also requires the ability to be a good leader. W: Hmm. I see your point. The form says he s poor in the category of leadership potential. But, if I were you, I d still focus on the essential requirement. M: Do you think so? W: Yeah. He s excellent in the category of positive attitude. So, you can train him in his weak area later. M: Sounds reasonable. Thanks for the help.

World Leader Contest W: Hello, class. I d like to announce the World Leader Contest which will be held on October 2nd. Let me explain briefly how to apply for the contest. You need to submit an application form and a letter of self-introduction to me by next Monday. Then, the selection committee will evaluate your application materials. After the evaluation procedure, selected candidates will be contacted individually for an interview. Those who pass the interview will participate in the World Leader Contest on behalf of our school. Any questions or comments? [pause] OK. See you tomorrow.

W: Dad, I m a little nervous about touching the fish. M: I know this is your first time fishing, but just relax. W: Dad, did you order the grilled salmon steaks? M: Yes, the waiter said they would be ready soon. W: Dad, these fish are so beautiful, aren t they? M: Yes, and there are so many different kinds. W: Dad, this is the best lake in the whole world. M: I agree. I love coming here every summer. W: Dad, I really don t like any of these life jackets. M: OK. We can always go to another store.

M: What s the most interesting part-time job you ve ever had? W: Well, I had a weekend job picking oranges while I studied English in Australia last year. M: Wow, I love oranges. You must have had a lot! W: Sure. I could eat as many as I liked. Have you ever had an interesting part-time job? M: Yes, I worked as a tree planter in a national park. I love working outside. W: Really? This vacation I m going to work on my uncle s orange farm on Jeju Island. And he needs some extra workers to pick oranges. Would you be interested? M: You mean I can eat as many oranges as I want? W: Of course. We ll also make some money and have fun. What do you think? M:

M: What did you do last night? W: I watched a cool animal documentary series on DVD. You know I love documentary films very much. M: What was it about? W: It was all about weird animals. It was really interesting. M: How long was it? W: Well..., about 3 hours. [pause] By the way, what did you do last night? M: I did what you should have done. I studied. W: Oh, no! Don t tell me I forgot about another test. M: Relax. We still have a few more days. W:

W: Dad, how did you meet mom? M: Huh? Where did that question come from? W: I was just curious. M: Uh, your mom and I worked at the same company. W: Did you ask her out on a date first? M: Yes, I think I asked her several times, to tell you the truth. W: She said no at first? M: Well, not no, but she made many excuses in the beginning. W: But you never gave up? M: I knew she liked me. But you know your mom. She likes to consider things carefully. So, why do you ask? W: I m just wondering if I ll meet someone special someday. M:

Laura M: Laura s teacher is really kind and always talks about the benefits of making new friends. Last week, a new student joined the class. He was really shy and seemed nervous whenever the teacher asked him to give answers. Some classmates thought that he was a bit strange, and it seemed he didn t want to talk to them. Yesterday, Laura noticed that he was eating alone in the cafeteria. Laura and her friends decided to sit with him. Within a few minutes, they had a nice conversation. After Laura s teacher watched this situation, what would he most probably say to Laura and her friends? Laura s teacher:
