25 minutes 10 minutes 15 SOCIAL: Providing time for fun interaction. 25 : Communicating God s truth in engaging ways. Opener Game Worship Story Closer 10 WORSHIP: Inviting people to respond to God. Chasing Me Remind Me 25 GROUPS: Creating a safe place to connect. WHAT YOU DO 1. Go to myfreedom.org/kidsleaders to do the following: 1. Read through K-5th large group leader guide several times throughout the week to familiarize yourself with what to say, how long it should take, and the order of activities. 2. Watch the Bible story video. 3. Preview the worship songs and get familiar with the motions for this weekend. 2. Follow up with your campus lead with any questions about the weekend! 3. Arrive on time to tag in briefly with the team, gather your materials, and connect with early arrivers. 4. Teach kids about God s Word with energy! WHAT YOU NEED (provided for you) -Bible (bring your own) -bag of skittles -5 sandwich bags -5 random dollar store prizes -game controller (bring your own)

CUE: Play high energy music as kids enter and Freedom Kids Logo (#1). CUE: FK countdown (#2) 5 UTES BEFORE THE GATHERING BEGINS. (New Countdown) OPENER When the 5 minute countdown gets down to 1 minute, have the kids start to make their way to large group. Host is at the front welcoming them. Lead kids in big countdown from 10 seconds! CUE: More or Less Graphic (#3) -Welcome, welcome, welcome! We re here at Freedom Kids, ready to jump into another week of More or Less? If you weren t here last week, no worries we ve got you covered. In fact, this week is a great week to be here, because SKITTLES! Pop a few Skittles in your mouth. Life is full of More or Less? moments, where you have to decide if you re going to show contentment. Contentment is deciding to be okay with what you have. CUE: Contentment Def n graphic (#4). It s deciding that your stuff is good enough. Others might have more, others might have better, others might even have newer or shinier, but being content is being totally fine with what you have and not wanting to give it all up for something else. Kind of like you having to be content right now that I am eating a bag of skittles for breakfast and you re not! Just kidding - but I do need to know, does anyone here like Skittles? (Pause for response.) Wonderful! I need 5 contestants to come up on and play today s game, More or Less: Spend It or Save It! CUE: Game show music (#5). GAME More or Less: Spend It or Save It! Bring the two contestants up to the front and hand them each a bag of 25 skittles. Be sure to separate skittles into before kids arrive. Note: Kids will not be eating these skittles. The prizes for this game will be various Dollar Tree items. Here s how we play. There are five rounds in our game. Each round, we ll bring out a prize. Once you take a look, you can decide to spend your Skittles and buy the prize, or you can save your Skittles and not spend them at all. Here s the catch, though you ll be spending against each other. And you only get to spend one time per round! For example, let s say I bring out a prize. We ll begin at one end of the line. [Kid s name] says, I ll spend eight Skittles to buy that. However, next in line is [kid s name], and he says, I ll spend nine. The next person might say, I m not spending anything. The person spending the most at the end of the round gets the prize! Each round will start with a different person, so everyone has a chance to go either first or last. Let s look at our first prize, [name of prize]! Display prizes like a game show host and make a big deal out of each one. Have fun with it! Contestants, how many Skittles are you willing to spend to get this? Remember, you only have 25. You can use all 25 if you REALLY want this prize, but then you won t have any left for the other rounds, and who knows? Those prizes might be even better!

WORSHIP LEADER: Collect Skittles from each kid, commenting along the way. Award the prize to the kid who spent the most Skittles. If there s a tie, have the contestants break the tie with rock-paper-scissors. Quickly go through four more rounds, starting with a different kid each time. Save the best prize for last. Collect Skittles from the kids and award each prize to the kid who spent the most. Let s give all of our contestants a big hand! (Initiate applause.) Sometimes it s hard to be content with what you have when there s something better staring you right in the face, right? We ll talk some more about that in our Bible story. But first, everyone jump up on your feet, because it s time for us to sing and jump for God! CUE: Song 1 (#6) CUE: Song 2 (#7) LEADER: Let s pray. Dear God, thank you for saying kind and wonderful things about us. Remind us that with you, we can do it, we re never alone, and you ll help us with anything! We love you, Amen. Before you sit down, find 5 people, give them a fist bump and tell them what you are going to be for Halloween CUE: 1 minute countdown (#8). When the countdown finishes, CUE: Extreme Close Ups video (#9). LEADER: CUE: More or Less Graphic (#10). If you were here last week, we looked at a letter written by the a guy named Paul. He said he had learned to be content when things were good AND when things were not-so-good. He said he could choose to be content no matter what, because of the strength Jesus gave him. This week, though...hold up the video game controller... might be a little more difficult. This week we re talking about stuff not just ANY stuff, but stuff that most of you probably want to have right this second. Before we get to this (hold up the game controller again), let s start with some of this. (Hold up Bible.) SETTING UP THE In the Bible, there are several letters written to churches, to cities, to people. This week, we re reading one of those letters, which we call the book of Hebrews. We don t exactly know who wrote this letter, but whoever did shared some wisdom with early followers of Jesus. Let s look at what it says in Hebrews 13:5. CUE: Hebrews 13:5 graphic (#11). Don t be controlled by love for money. Be happy with what you have. God has said, I will never leave you, I will never desert you (NIrV). The person who wrote this was talking to people who valued money above other things. For you, money might not be that great. It s nice to have, but it s not the BEST to have. For you, it s probably STUFF. You know... like this! CUE: Toy Collection Image (#12).

GIMME, GIMME What is it for you? What kinds of things do YOU dream of having? What do you put on YOUR birthday list or Christmas list? Take some responses from the kids. Not bad. I can remember when I was a kid wanting things like that, too. Have you ever wanted something so much that it s all you could think about? When people talk to you, it s all you talk about. You love it so much that all your conversations revolve around that ONE thing. Maybe you re a video game person and you LOVE your game system, or maybe you d really love to HAVE one. Hold up the video game controller. Maybe you love wearing cool clothes. You re always wishing you could go to the store and pick out a fun new look. Speaking of which, I wish I looked half as cool as all of you right now. Walk through the crowd and compliment a few kids on their shirts or shoes. How about this one. Every year at Christmas, there s one toy that s THE toy that everyone has to have. We don t even know what it is yet, but I bet there will be one about a month from now! YESTERDAY S STUFF It s funny how things change. The stuff people wanted a few years ago is not exactly the stuff you d want today. When I was a younger, video games looked like this. CUE: Atari Game Controllers (#13.) This was awesome in [year]. Not so awesome in For those of you who are into clothes, look at what kids like me were wearing back then. CUE: 1970 s s, and 1990 s graphic (#14). Oh, yeah. We were the coolest! And then there s Tickle Me Elmo in CUE: 1996 Tickle Me Elmo (#15). Back in 1996, this was the toy that EVERY kid wanted under the Christmas tree. It was crazy. They completely sold out right after Thanksgiving. People would chase delivery trucks trying to get their hands on one. People even got injured as they stampeded to get them in the stores. Crazy! CHOOSE CONTENTMENT It s funny all those things seemed so important back then. Kids like me felt like we HAD to have them. We talked about them all the time. We dreamed about them! But wait. Where are all those old game systems now? Where are those bizarre clothes that seemed so trendy at the time? Whatever happened to Tickle Me Elmo? Honestly, all those things we used to love are probably sitting in a closet somewhere, gathering dust. They probably don t work very well, if they work at all. The truth is, most of them probably got thrown in the garbage.

Let me ask you this, it is wrong to want the latest xbox or coolest clothes? No, it s not wrong. It s not that having stuff is bad. Stuff can even make you happy for a while. But [Bottom Line] stuff can t KEEP you happy. Eventually, the stuff you have will break. Or it won t be cool anymore. Or a new game system will come out that you wish you had instead. CUE: Bottom Line (#16). That s our bottom line for today. Stuff can t keep you happy. Check out this story I want to share with you on the screen. CUE: Story Illustration video (#17). Stuff can t keep you happy. CUE: Bottom Line (#18). Contentment is deciding to be okay with what you have. It s putting your focus on what God has given you. It s choosing to be thankful instead of always wanting more. Don t just think about the things you want. Pay attention to what God has already GIVEN you: your relationship with Him, the beautiful world He s made, and the people He s put around you. Stuff can t keep you happy BUT God can. Stuff breaks, but God doesn t. Things don t last, but God does. He is ALWAYS with you! If you choose to remember those things, you can live each day with contentment. CLOSE Bottom Line Grab the bag of skittles and start eating a couple. Money, things, and even these Skittles can make us happy... for a little while. But Skittles get eaten. Toys break. And like it or not, nothing you get for Christmas or your birthday will last forever. If you always want more and more and more, you ll never truly be happy. Because once you get that cool new toy, journal, piece of cake, game, whatever it is you ll just eventually want MORE and MORE. It won t ever stop! But if you choose to be content with what God has given you already, then you will live a happy life. Stuff can t keep you happy. But God can. Instead of trying to get more and more things, spend your time thinking about the things that last, like your friendships, your family, and your relationship with God. Take your mind off of the stuff you want by focusing on how you can love and serve God. Think about ways you can love and serve others. Let s help one another choose to be content in our small groups today! You guys are dismissed to your group and I ll see you next week for another chance to win some prizes! Bye, everyone! CUE: Fade high energy music up as kids go to their groups. Fade music down when all kids have exited.
