The capital and its airports, the Midlands and the south of England are all readily accessible. Exceptional public transport really does make a car optional. Dartford railway station, only about a mile away, offers services to London Victoria, Charing Cross, Cannon Street and London Bridge, with journey times from as little as 42 minutes depending on destination (some routes involve a change). Alternatively, Gravesend station, about eight miles distant, provides high-speed services to the international hubs of St Pancras and Ebbsfleet. An innovative addition to the comprehensive bus network is the Fastrack Busway service. This is a rapid transit system which uses dedicated routes to link key destinations in the area, including the rail network at Dartford, Greenhithe (for Bluewater), Gravesend and Ebbsfleet. There is a Fastrack stop at Brooklands Lakes on Mill Pond Road, about eight minutes walk from Darenth Road. There are several schools for younger children within a mile or so of Latham Place, including St Alban s Road Infants, Oakfield Infant, Nursery and Junior schools, The Gateway Primary, York Road Junior and Fleetdown Junior. Even closer, for older students, is The Leigh City Technical College. Similarly, there are GP practices within about a mile, while the town s modern Darent Valley Hospital offers a wide range of Central Park Brooklands Lake

The main public multi-sports facility is Fairfield Pool & Leisure Centre, which re-opens early in 2016 after a 12 million rebuild to provide an improved gym, 4-court sports hall and much more. Alternatives include David Lloyd and (Hilton) Living Well leisure centres. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy Darenth Woods, a 300-acre expanse of ancient coppiced woodland and a Site of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI), while anglers have nearby Brooklands Lake.
