It is a lot of work to organize this for the club. With the start of flying season it is time to make sure your planes are ready. Please double check your planes and equipment before you head out to the field. Look over your planes and fix anything that is in need of repair, charge your batteries and check them under load, discharge them and check how much you take out and put back in to make sure that they are still good. When you get to the field make sure you do a range check before you fly and that the control surfaces are moving in the right direction. The field will be rolled this month so it should be a little smoother for our takeoffs and landings. The first fun fly of the year was cancelled because we only had 3 pilots and should be having the next one in may starting at 10:00am weather permitting. 2 May 2017 Volume 24 Issue 5 MEETING MINUTES Page 2 by Murry Randell, Secretary April 17th, 2017 Meeting The April 17th, 2017 meeting of the Blue Max RC Flying Club was called to order at 7:06 pm by President Steve Haas Welcome Guests Jarvis Yeh (Maxx Products) Welcome New Members None Around The Hangar President s Report President Steve Haas: meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Report Murry Randell: The minutes were accepted as published in the newsletter. Treasurer Report Jim Kaufman: stated club numbers Newsletter Report Bob Breckler: we are still looking for a Photographer, for those building and that have sent pictures, thank you Webmaster Report Doug Bradbury: No Report. Committee Reports: Winter Banquet OPEN Field Marshal Jim Kaufman: Rolling the field is being planned for the beginning of May and the Weed and Feed will be done at the same time. Fun Fly Steve Gelman: There were only 3 contestants for the April Fun Fly so it s been postponed until May..Come out and have some fun Noise Shlomo Rimer: the noise is starting to pick up Picnic Carl Will/Bob Breckler: No new news Proficiency Duane Lang: No advancements Program OPEN: Jarvis Yeh From Maxx Products was at the meeting Safety Don Linder: Helicopters and Drones are to use the right side of the field that was designated for if they are just practicing hovering. Discussion around how to best accommodate the drone pilots was had and revolved around the practice area and the best time for flying, if the drone pilots are to enter the center of the flight path they will need to follow the standard flight pattern for the day so we do not chance a midair mishap, have better communication between the drone pilots and the fixed wing pilots, open up the channel of communication between the pilots and make sure there are spotters out when flying. Remember to respect each others air space and make sure that all the new pilots are made aware of the field rules and why it s important to make sure we observe them.

3 May 2017 Volume 24 Issue 5 Page 3 Old Business As of this writing the old radio impound has been moved off the slab and cleaned out, there were 5 unwanted guests that were evicted from the premises. The slab was then prepped for the shed which included framing the floor as the slab had settled 7 inches in the far northeast corner. I would like to thank all that came out and helped with the clean up effort, Bob Breckler, Steve Haas, Jim Kaufman Carl Will, Don Linder and Duane Lang, Sam Rimer and special guest Vic Breckler. Special thanks to Carl for donating a corner of his storage locker to keep some of the valuables out of the old impound while the shed is being built New Business None Crash Reports No Crashes. FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS We are collecting non-perishable foods for a local food pantry. The food pantry we are donating to is Our Lady of Ransom/St Vincent de Paul. Please bring your donations to our monthly meetings. Thanks to Carl Will for delivering the Food to the Pantry. SIG Fly in is coming, June 9th, 10th and 11th Montezuma, IA. (It s a good time)

4 May 2017 Volume 24 Issue 5 Page 4 Show & Tell Mike Melendy brought in his P51 to the meeting for a little show and tell and to maiden it at the field, thanks Mike. The Program Guest was Jarvis Yeh from Maxx Products in Lake Zurich, he is now the distributor for Falcon Propellers and he brought in a few samples them to show everyone and explain the process that Falcon goes through to create them. He also answered some questions on the electronics and receiver batteries and then also spoke to the state of the hobby and where he feels it s going in the foreseeable future, and how what he s started as a small garage business turned into the company he now owns. A special thanks to Don Linder for contacting Jarvis and setting up this meeting with the club and a very special thanks to Jarvis for all the great information. 19 May 2017 Volume 24 Issue 5 Page 19 Jim Keenan helped taking the jumps and bumps out of the runway and taxi area by rolling the field, Jim you now in the local 150 Don Linder also gave a helping hand to flatten things out at the edge of the runway, and while there isn t a picture of him, Jim Kaufman also put his time at the wheel (he was taking the pictures) Don, Jim and Jim a big Thank You all for pitching in, everyone in the club Appreciates it.
