December Meeting Our annual holiday dinner was held on the regular meeting date of December 21 st, and was a great success. Many thanks to Laurie Trescott, and to all the members and their families who contributed dishes for the event. Needless to say, no-one left still hungry! Here are a few pictures from the event, starting with a couple of aerial shots as Steve Boracca soared up to the balcony. Laurie dressed the place up nicely. And we all got down to the serious business of enjoying ourselves! We ve managed to get most of the gang in the following pictures by Laurie Trescott.

3 Bob Frogner has joined the quadcopter group with a ViseoQuad from BangGood in China. For $44 this little guy has auto take-off and land, available first person view, altitude hold and one or two other automatic features. Amazing! Jeff Larner comes all the way from Gilroy to fly as a member here, and brought a not uncommon model, but from an unusual source. This is his P-51 from Harbor Freight, one of only two flying model airplanes they sell. A good deal at under $100. Below that we see Stefan Warnke s new convertaplane, a Horizon Hobbies Convergence alongside his nicely finished Texaco speedster. Dan Morris is spending a lot of time with his larger Waco biplane, and has now installed First Person View avionics in it. Another of our fine youung pilots is Sebastian Roeder-Hensley, who flies his B-17 with great success. He has also set the plane up with at least four sets of FPV goggles, which he shared out to Hugh Chalmers, Don Edwards and Gary Gonzales, all of whom were mightily impressed. Jim Williams, never one to waste a potential piece of aeromodeling material, took some of the Holiday Dinner paper table cloth edging (see page one) and

Here they both are. Bob Frogner builds quite a few of his airplanes from Dollar Tree foam, and plans which he dowloads from the internet, as noted in last month s newsletter. Here s his latest, a cartoon version of a Fokker D-VII. It flies much as you might expect note the large amount of downthrust which Bob felt was required but in his capable hands it gets back to earth in one piece! Alan Kirby came to the field as a non-aeromodeling guest a couple of weeks ago, and was so taken with the hobby that he immediately sent off for an Apprentice, rapidly becoming the trainer of choice at our field, and a week later was flying it successfully. Looks like we ve got a new member! Alan Brown wasted no time in cashing in his holiday dinner winnings, and brought his Horizon Hobby Stinson Reliant to the field first Sunday in the New Year. This is (in his opinion) a very pretty airplane, and had a few taxi runs while trying to sort out optimum ground handling and tailwheel exponential. First flight is still awaited!

Sorry I don t have the pilot s name. Perhaps some of the longer term members can help out. Here are some pictures from bygone days of the RC Bees in the 1980 s and perhaps a little earlier. Runway conditions weren t always as pristine as we are used to now. Here s an immaculate (!) trainer ready for take-off as seen in the following picture. I believe that the field was then off Highway One south of the road to Las Lomas. Perhaps some of our longer term members can correct me. A nice take-off shot on a very narrow runway. It seems that the RC Bees were an itinerant group in those days! And finally here s a group at our field in the very early days of occupancy. Note the absence of pits and safety fence. And that s it for January! Next we see Dennis Kanemura, kneeling, at a later location, taking advantage of a new housing development before the road had vehicles on it. He s holding the glo-plug connector no electrics in those days.
