AMA CHARTER 1040 GOLD LEADERSHIP CLUB Bradford s Briefing by Bradford Walters T he Milwaukee R/C Association held their annual swap meet in Waukesha, WI last weekend. 17 members of the Blue Max Club made their way up to the meet. This has got to be the biggest meet in the area that we go to every year. They hold a live auction during the meet, where great deals can be made. Afterwards a number of us stopped by the local Denny s for a snack before the hour and a half ride home. There s a picture of us in this newsletter. Now that the holidays are over, most of us are either building or repairing parts of our fleet. The new Board of Directors met last weekend to discuss plans for the coming year and to start setting up dates for events. I m happy to report that we ended the year with 95 paid members. That s up by just a few from the past 3 years since I ve been in office. That gives me a positive outlook seeing how the economy has not been helping. The question of replacing the pit area carpet has come up a number of times and I ll have to say that it won t happen this year. Only patching of what is down now will take place in the spring. It still scares me to think what the FP tree trimmers are going to do with the 3 big trees around our impound box. They are marked to be cut down and I ve got no clue as to when they will do that. I m hoping they will be cut down this winter when no one is out flying. Be sure to keep an eye on the club Events calendar for the next swap meets and other events that are local to our area. Remember to renew your Blue Max club membership and your AMA. The Winter Banquet is right around the corner on Feb 9th, so be sure to sign up and set that date aside. Fly safely and not alone. Welcome Guests John O Laughlin Welcome New Members Leo Hanula Around The Hangar President s Report Bradford Walters: Newly elected officers and board members will take office at the end of tonight s meeting. The club now has 95 members. Bradford is the registered agent for tax-exempt status filing. Field hours are Monday - Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 5pm. Secretary Report Murry Randell: The minutes were accepted as published in the newsletter. Treasurer Report Bob Wisinski: Our current balance is $ Newsletter Report Lynne Walters: The calendar is up-to-date. Please send pictures, humor, articles, and items wanted to buy and/or sell. Webmaster Report Doug Bradbury: No report. Committee Reports: Banquet Frank Stillson: The banquet will be held on Feb 9, 2013 at Chevy Chase CC. We need volunteers for display aircraft. Field Marshal Matt Hauser: We will need fence and carpet repairs in the spring. Fun Fly Mike Melendy: No report. Mike will stay on as chairman. Noise Shlomo Rimer: Shlomo will continue as chairman. Ray Laning lost radio contact and crashed his jet. Show and Tell Don Linder with his Somethin Extra. The fuselage is kit built but the wings are from an ARF. 5 January 2013 Volume 20 Issue 1 Page 5 Editor s Page By Lynne Walters THE ANSWER TO DECEMBER S NAME THAT PLANE The name of the plane is the Curtiss F9C Sparrowhawk. Bob Wisinski was the first person to guess it correctly and will get a free raffle ticket at the January meeting. Dan Deitemeyer and Larry Bochenko also answered correctly. Only 8 of these aircrafts were built for the US Navy to meet a lightweight shipboard fighter requirement. The latter called for the production of a very small aircraft, yet despite being just 20 ft long and a wingspan of only 25 ft, this aircraft proved too large for the Navy. JANUARY S NAME THAT PLANE This aircraft was built for the Schneider Trophy, but was unable to compete due to the torque effect of its tandem mounted engine, which made the aircraft uncontrollable on the water. Food Pantry Donations Please remember that each month the Blue Max RC Flying Club will be bringing non-perishable food items to a SE Lake County food pantry. In addition to food items, the request was made to include items such as detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, pain relief(tylenol/advil), and cleaning supplies. I just learned that people who are on food stamps or assistance are unable to use these programs to purchase paper goods, healthcare products, and cleaning suppllies. The January meeting would be a good time to turn in your reservations for this event. We are planning a very nice evening of companionship in the middle of winter at the Chevy Chase C.C. in Wheeling. There will be appetizers beginning at 6 PM along with a cash bar. Buffet dinner will be at 7PM, with a fine selection of food. Dessert is included. After dinner, there will be member awards from the 2012 flying year. There will be lots of great raffle prizes for the members and a gift certificate raffle for the Ladies.
