2 President s Message So, it finally looks like we are going to get some real winter weather. I m writing this the night before a big snow storm is due. School has already been cancelled. My wife works at Northeastern University, and they have cancelled school. I wish I could stay home and work on some planes, but I don t get the day off. The joys of being able to telecommute! I will, however, take my FliteTest Sea Duck up for a flight in the afternoon. Haven t tried it off of snow yet, but I can take it off of grass, so this should be fun. Anyway, this month s letter will be short. That s what happens when you have to write it on the last day that the Adam needs it for the newsletter. But, it is also a slow month. I hate to sound like a broken record, but we still need someone to step up for the Vice-President role. The Vice-President role has some perks. You get to take the guest speaker out to dinner before the meeting, and the club will pick up the tab! You do have to contact potential speakers and schedule them for one of our indoor meetings. You don t have to come up with the potential speaker ideas yourself. The board members as well as other club members can help come up with ideas. Even if you can t do it for a full year, please consider helping to book one or two guest speakers. CRRC Meeting, January AMA Charter #339

3 I have managed to line up an interesting speaker for our February meeting. It is Vic Kachoria, the CEO of Spike Aerospace ( So, those of you who were going to skip this month s meeting knowing that we don t have a Vice-President better change your plans. The Millis club should be changing the lock at Bill Martin field later this month. As soon as they do, we will let everyone know, and you can swap your old key for the new key by contacting Ken Antonellis. Speaking of Ken, we need someone to organize the annual CRRC auction in November. Ken had the auction organized so well, that all you need to do is follow a set of steps that Ken will gladly give you. He will also be available to answer all your questions. 5 CRRC Flight Log February 2017 Show and Tell Matthew Fremont had a scratch-built foamboard motor glider. It's similar to the Flite Test Simple Soarer but it features a tapered wing with ailerons instead of a being a rudder-elevator setup. Dan Sullivan brought a scratch built foamboard flying wing (60" wingspan) that he hpoes will be usable as a motor glider. Adam Smith had a partially completed Spirit glider and snow-skimmer snow sled. Dave Spielman is starting a Bubble Dancer build and showed some of the detail parts that he has made so far. 5 AMA Charter #339

6 Meeting Info This Month s Meeting Our next general meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 15th, 7:30PM, at Goodnow Library in Sudbury. Club meetings are open to the public, we welcome visitors and guests to learn about model aviation and CRRC. 7 Meeting Room Guest Speaker - February Vik Kachoria is CEO and President of Spike Aerospace which is designing the world's first QUIET supersonic business jet, the Spike S-512. The low-sonic boom, 18 passenger, Mach 1.6 business jet will cut flight times in half. Flights overland from NYC to LAX or London to Hong Kong will be possible without the loud sonic boom the Concorde created. Mr Kachoria is a seasoned executive with over 35 years international business experience in corporate development, general management and mergers & acquisitions with Fortune 50 and early stage ventures. He has been a successful serial entrepreneur, advisor and investor in high growth technology ventures including aerospace, aviation,software and internet applications. Early in his career, he worked at NASA and General Electric Aircraft Engines before launching his first company. Mr. Kachoria has a pilot s license and is working towards his commercial rating. He studied at MIT Sloan School of Management and Boston University, has an MBA and a BA in Physics and Mathematics. 7 AMA Charter #339

8 CRRC Flight Log February 2017 Raffle We hold a raffle at each meeting. Tickets are $1 each, 3 for $2, a free ticket for wearing your badge and one for bringing in a show and tell. Good luck and see you at the meeting! This months raffle prizes are great for the weekend builder! First prize is the Sig Four Star 20 EP kit. The electric kit is great for a second plane and can easily be converted to glow power. Second prize is an Arm Safe power plug to safely arm your battery powered plane.
