I hope everyone had a marvellous summer, as well as the sunshine and warm weather. As the weather changes, we have come into fall, where the leaves are changing and the weather starts to cool off. Over the summer, the BCEBS had a pretty busy summer attending a lot of events in the area and now pleased to announce that we have set up online banking and e-transfers for the society. On July 3 rd we attended Westminster House Care Home for their summer fun day. The birds got to interact with the general public and got to visit with the care home residents. On Aug 1 st & 2 we were also present for the White Rock Sea Festival at White Rock Beach. This was our first year attending this event, to which we were well perceived and the promoters heard astounding Thing s about the BCEBS and we have been invited back to attend next year s event. On Aug 23 rd we attended the Delta Community Pet Expo again this year. It was another great event, the weather was amazing and all the volunteers went back to Anne s house for an after the event BBQ. We would like to thank Anne and Kirsta for putting on the BBQ and inviting all the volunteers. In other news, Our next bird meeting will be held on Sept 11 th at Murrayville Library in Langley. Everyone is welcome to attend. After the meeting there will be goodies and refreshments. We ask that all members try to attend the September Bird Meeting, as this meeting with effect the future of the Society and where we would like the society to be in the near future. Our October Meeting will be held on October 16 th at the Murrayville library in Langley. We would also like to announce that our famous Fall Bird Mart will be held on October 25 th at Sullivan Community Hall in Surrey. Feel Free to contact us if you wish to volunteer, or send us an if you have any concerns, questions or article you wish to submit to the newsletter. If you wish to participate in any of the upcoming events, please contact Kelly at secretary@bcexoticbirdsociety.org where your help is always welcome. 2 ssue # 2 BC EXOTIC BIRD SOCIETY MONTHLY NEWSLETTER I Every month we have our monthly meetings to go over new birds that have come into the program, new business, and events that will be coming up that we have been invited to or that we would like to attend. What first comes to mind when you hear the word Meeting? You re probably thinking OH a meeting well there boring and nothing exciting happends " Well as a matter of fact, we try to make it fun! Murrayville Library th Ave Langley, BC We bring our feathered friends with us, so once we have discussed all the important information for upcoming events and new birds that have come into the program, we get to socialize with other members and birds while having refreshments and snacks. So if you are interested in attending our meetings, feel free. We enjoy having new people come out and see what our society is all about.

4 BC EXOTIC BIRD SOCIETY MONTHLY NEWSLETTER Issue # 4 A message to all my bird friend. (BTW this isn t mine, I found it from a friend) A warning to anyone that owns birds. Some of the toys sold are not even close to being safe. I have been buying my bird Rocket different toys to play with the last few years and even though some look real safe they are not. There are toys that are little wood pcs hanging from a piece of twine and my bird loves destroying them. Problem is that twine can grab hold of the feathers and the twine will fray. I looked in on Rocket last night because he was playing and all of a sudden it got real quiet, too quiet for me. I went to look in and he was holding his toy and hanging upside down and backwards.he was biting at the twine so I opened the cage because something wasn't sitting right with me. I opened his cage and put my arm out for him to climb on as he always does but he wouldn t move. I raised my arm up so I was level thinking his nails got stuck in the twine. He then let go of twine and looked at me funny so I brought my other arm in but his nails were not trapped. The twine had frayed and while playing with it and a piece I could not see from the front was wrapped around his neck and he was choking. I than had to get him to hold on to the other ring toy beside that so I could grab knife and cut his toy from the cage so I could get him out and unwrap it from his neck. He didn't want to let me go, the poor little guy was scared shitless but I got it done. I gave him a full check over to ensure he had no cuts or anything else wrong. Tough trying to sleep last night after that, kept waking up to go check on him. I pulled any more of those toys from his cage and will never ever buy that brand of toy as well. It s a good thing I know my bird and my instinct told me something was wrong immediately. Thank god I was home when it happened or this would not have had a good ending. You re my Buddy Rocket, daddy loves you!

(NO PIC)- Kirby Slate Face (Peach Face Mutation) young not aggressive, hand shy, will shoulder sit with time. 1-Cockatiel Raptor in foster care. Hands on, has a foot fetish. 13-Zebra Finches 11- Female 2- Male (Blue & Cozzy) Have a New Home The society comes across many types of breeds of birds. Many are found unstable conditions, abandoned and many birds are also offered to the club by their owners. What a lot of people don t know is that the bigger birds need special attention and they live longer. Some of the bigger birds could live over Years. When birds come into the program we will Foster them for 30 Days so we can interact with the birds to see how they react to us, if they bite, if there sick, if they favor one sex more than the other, and so on. Right now we have a few birds that are in the program that are available for adoption. We will post a pick and there adoption status. Thanks the Adoption Committee
