Warmest Regards, Denise Kingsbury FROM THE EDITOR FROM THE PRESIDENT The big news is, the Board, in conjunction with the Social Committee Directors, has started the process for looking for alternatives to either repairing or replacing the antiquated sound system in the clubhouse. Hopefully, there is a solution to the problem by the time you read this newsletter. At the next General Meeting the Board will hold a Town Hall style meeting. We encourage you to bring forth your positive ideas. The Board will discuss and take all ideas into consideration. This is an opportunity for all of us to make a difference in our community. The Social Committee is working hard to provide quality entertainment for our community. They have lined up a lot of different styles of entertainment for the remainder of the year. You are all encouraged to come to these functions. This is a great way to spend time with friends and neighbors or make new friends and meet your new neighbors. 3 MEET N GREET Come meet your neighbors, over coffee an donuts, the first Saturday of every month at 9am. CARDS MAKING/PAPER CRAFTING This group meets every Wednesday from 1 to 3pm in the clubhouse. All crafters are welcome, from beginners to more advanced. If you have always thought you would like to give card making a try, but don't know where to begin, or having been doing this on your own for years, we would love for you to come and join us. If you have any question about what we do, call Carol McKenna at Cleaning out your closets and cabinets? Want to get rid of gently used clothing, blankets, towels, shoes, travel bottles of shampoos, etc. I took my items to The Coalition for the Homeless Pine St. (off Madison) 727/ They are always in need and give to the homeless at no charge. Susan Chafin Judy Ingalls began a quilting class. You too, could make a beautiful quilt. It s fun, it s relaxing! Just ask Julie Villani, this is her lst try. Fantastic Julie! 4 Come and join your neighbors for a fun game of shuffleboard. We meet each and every Friday at 9:30am. Equipment is provided and we ll show you the ropes if you haven t played in the past. It will still be Co-Ed and all games will be played straight and wild cards. We meet every Wednesday at 6:00 pm till 9:00 pm. So all you poker players, come and join us and have a good time. BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION & USED BATTERIES Please give them to Gene Brooks to support Jacob s school. Due to the generosity of Grand Valley residents, Jacob turned in $33.60 worth of box tops at the start of this years school season. Thanks to all. The Carpenter family and Joan want to thank the Parnells, the VanVlacks and Alice Lizotte for setting up the clubhouse with a wonderful luncheon to celebrate Fred s life. It was a great celebration. We all thank those that went with us to the cemetery also. Thank You, Joan Meagher and the Carpenter Families.. BUNCO Open to all residents and their guests. 6 SOCIAL NEWS By the time you read this newsletter our January program will be over. Attendance was great. We sold 94 tickets to enjoy a spaghetti dinner followed by entertainment by Dale Anderson and Friends. Now it s time to talk about February. On the 10th we will have a Senior Prom. GRAND VALLEY MEN S GOLF I am forming a Grand Valley Men s Golf Group. All men of Grand Valley are encouraged to participate. This will be for fun, so all levels of play are welcome. Please contact me to join the group. Chuck Evens 815/ LADIES LUNCHEON Our next Ladies Luncheon will be February 13th at 1pm at Applebees on Little Rd. Please see the sign up sheet in the clubhouse. Questions? Call Mary Jane Sellers 312/ Our entertainment for the evening will be The Rising Stars, a fairly new group that plays a variety of music. Tickets are available from the office and Ed & Jo Ann Nadeau for $7pp. Use of formal attire is optional, but take a look at some of our great ladies from the last GV Prom. March will bring a St. Patrick s Dinner with all the fixins, and for the shirt tail Irishmen, we will have ham. Price hasn t been determined due to unsteady meat costs. In April, we will again say goodbye to our snowbirds (they can take this cold weather back with them). The Voices will return for our dancing pleasure. We previously enjoyed their music and they were very entertaining. Normally we have celebrated Cinco de Mayo. This year we will try to celebrate Mother s Day with a buffet breakfast (in the planning stage). Cooking for this type of meal takes a lot of logistics, because we have no stove. If we celebrate Mother s Day, in June will also honor the Fathers. Last New Year s Eve was poorly attended. We would like your ideas to help improve our attendance. Your suggestions will be appreciated. The big winner was St. Jude s Children s Hospital. The GVHA sent a check for $ Phil Reed & Huguette Guay won $25 gift cards to Darden restaurants and Angelo Petrone won the donation drawing (and generously donated his winnings to the St. Jude fund. It s so much fun watching people finding rocks and seeing a smile on their face.
