2 October CPQ Meeting Minutes The October meeting was called to order by Fay Rawls. We had 40 members and 3 guests present. October birthdays were recognized as printed in the newsletter. Please pick up your new badges at next month s meeting if you have not already. The new membership roster is online for you to check your information. If you have any corrections that need to be made, please let Pat Schroder know. Refreshments were provided by Chandler Pike, Anne Hill, June Sanders, Brenda Richardson, and Kathy Bodnor. Our program this month was from Angela Gubler regarding rulers and templates. She had many great techniques and quilts to share with us. We mainly focused on the different tools out there to create Dresden blocks and quilts. You can also find more information on Facebook and Instagram by following The Green Apricot. She also hosts workshops in McDonough if you are interested. We really enjoyed the program and loved seeing her quilts. The minutes from September s meeting were accepted as published. Several committees made announcements as follows: The Charity Bee is always accepting donations. If you know of someone that needs a quilt or if you have donations, please contact Ellen or Carol. June Sanders has the raffle quilt ready for display. It is already scheduled to hang in a few events around Athens in the coming months. If you know of a place or event that we could display the quilt, please let June Sanders know. June believes that close to 600 tickets have already been sold for this year s quilt. If you still haven t picked up your tickets, please see June ASAP. Deb Henderson gave the registration form out and reviewed with us. If you are planning to enter a quilt into the show, Deb must have your registration form (1 per quilt) on or before January 10, Quilts will be received on Thursday, February 2 5-8pm and Saturday, February 11 between 10am-3pm. If you have items for the boutique, the receiving date is the same as the quilts. Please see the guidelines for more information regarding deadlines and registration. Chandler Pike requested help in finding ads for the program and map for the quilt show. If you frequent a business or restaurant in the area that you think might want to advertise with us, please contact Chandler Pike and let her know. If you know of any vendors that might be interested in coming to the show, please contact Terri Bear. In the coming months, committees will post volunteer sign-up sheets for those interested in helping out with the quilt show. There are a lot of moving pieces and any help would be useful. Please consider volunteering your time to make our show a success. Our November program is called Voices of the Past with Muriel Pfaff. She will tell us about the history of quilting, specifically during the American Revolution time period. The April retreat will be held at the FFA camp in Covington from April The cost is $165 per person. Don t forget about the Say It with Flowers challenge due on December 13th. All information is on the website. Denise Stanchek had another fabulous set of door prizes for us this month. The winners were Kyle Howington, Barbara Flick and Jan Leonard. Next month we will have a mystery prize worth $100. 2

3 Mary Colley, Kyle Howington, June Sanders, Pat Schroder, Carol Ann Burns, and Denise Stanchek all brought beautiful quilts and projects to show. As always, I m impressed by your work! -Hanna Chupp CPQ Notes SOCIAL: Please bring empty plastic creamer bottles (the type powdered creamer comes in) to the November meeting. They will hopefully be used for the December decorations. ~Linda Murray DOOR PRIZES: Reminder that the Mystery Prize (at least $100 value) will be included with the regular door prizes at the November guild meeting!! Regular tickets are 50 cents each or 5 for $2.00 and each mystery prize ticket is $3.00. ~Denise Stanchek SEEKING QUILT REPAIR: A friend of mine has an antique (1920's) family quilt that has been damaged by mice and he would like to have it repaired so he can donate it to their church. Do you know anyone anywhere who works with antique quilts who could do such work? I think it came from a Midwestern state. ~Pat Dwinell Quilt Retreat RETREAT RETREAT RETREAT It's that time again ladies. I know it seems like we just finished our fall retreat and we did have a great time, didn t we? But we have another coming up in just a few months. April 18th to the 21st, 2017 is our next retreat get-together. We meet at Future Farmers of America (FFA) in Covington, GA Cost is $ We each have a 6 foot table to sew and spread out on. There is an additional room to press, cut and layout our designs. Our bedrooms consist of 2 double beds and a private bath, linens are supplied. The in house cooks supply us with 10 delicious meals during this time, you will not go hungry. The food is plentiful and delicious. Our limit is 26 so sign up early. I'll be at the November guild meeting collecting deposits of $50.00 or you can pay in full. Any questions, feel free to me at: jagarland@bellsouth.net Thanks Joan Garland 3
