4 Haldimand Cunty 2012 Business Plan Ontari Prvincial Plice Message frm the Cmmander The 2012 business plan utlines the brader gals f the Haldimand Cunty Plice Services Bard, Cmmunity, and Haldimand Cunty Ontari Prvincial Plice (OPP). All have wrked in a partnership t develp this plan. I believe that the fundatin f a safe cmmunity, which includes an increased quality f life, cmes frm a supprted cllabratin between the plice and the cmmunity, wrking tgether t identify and reslve lcal cmmunity prblems and issues t prevent their recurrence. The business plan acts as a scial cntract with ur citizens and respnds directly t the cmmunity s identified needs and cncerns. The plan is a blueprint fr public safety and security and is cupled with a high level f accuntability. The plan assigns specific respnsibilities t ensure that public needs are met effectively, efficiently and ecnmically. Wrking with the cmmunity ensures that the OPP cntinues t prvide a lcally tailred and accuntable plice service. Our cmmunity has affirmed that ur fcused effrts shuld be placed n: highway safety speeding in particular, yuth issues mischief in particular, plice visibility, and drug issues. Plice visibility will underpin ur plicing strategy this year in Haldimand Cunty. Ft patrl and bicycle patrl will be significant cmpnents t this strategy and as a detachment we will strive t get ut f ur plice vehicles and walk the beat. In additin, a success factr ver the past year I believe is that the cmmunity is talking abut the impact f excessive speed and distracted driving. Niagara Regin brders us t the east and Nrflk Cunty t the west. T the nrtheast lies the City f Hamiltn where many f ur almst 44,876 residents wrk and shp. The Greater Trnt Area, and its millins f peple, is less than an hur s drive nrtheast f Haldimand Cunty. Haldimand Cunty brders Six Natins f the Grand River Territry, as well as the Mississaugas f the New Credit First Natin; cnsequently the Abriginal culture is very prevalent in this cmmunity. Due t Haldimand s agricultural heritage, 53% f ur ttal ppulatin still lives in rural areas, with the remainder living in and arund ne f ur five urban areas: Calednia, Dunnville, Hagersville, Cayuga and Jarvis. We have fur high schls in ur cmmunities: Hagersville, Calednia, Cayuga and Dunnville. During the summer mnths the ppulatin increases in Haldimand Cunty as a result f ur cmmunities being near the shres f Lake Erie and the Grand River. As such, each f the urban areas has celebratins during these mnths such as Mudcat Festival in Dunnville, Cayuga Fun Day, Calednia s Canada Day, Jarvis Crnfest. Fisherville Fun Day, and Selkirk Gasfest. The unemplyment rate increased in the fall f 2011 with the clsure f Smucker s (Bick s Pickles) in Dunnville. This has resulted in the lss f several full time jbs and the eliminatin f seasnal jbs, particularly summer emplyment fr ur students. Yung peple make up apprximately 16% f ur ppulatin, while apprximately 17% f the ppulatin are senirs. Bth grups have specific and unique needs frm cmmunity agencies, including the plice.
