Preparaton 1 Pergo wood floorng materals are delvered wth nstructons n the form of llustratons. The texts below s coverng a floatng llustraton n regards of a floatng nstallaton, and are dvded n 3 areas: Preparaton, Installaton-Fnshng and Cleanng. We recommend that you read trough ths nformaton carefully whle studyng each llustraton. In case of doubts or questons please contact your Pergo dealer/techncal servces. The use of the orgnal Pergo accessores s strongly recommended to beneft from the full product warranty. BEFORE STARTING UP A parquet floor s to be consdered as an nteror product, and should be taken care of lke such pror to, durng and after nstallaton. The nstallaton should be done after eventual pantng and other wet works are done and dred out. If other works are ongong after nstallaton, a breath-takng coverng should be placed on top of the Pergo parquet. Don NOT tape coverng materal drect to the surface snce the glue mght harm the lacquered or oled surface. = 2 Pergo floors can be bought n dfferent formats, decors and qualtes. Make sure you have receved the floorng that you have ordered before startng the nstallaton. It s always a good dea to store one end-label together wth your recept. Do not nstall wood planks wth damaged surfaces, edges or lock jonts. Check every panel carefully before and durng the nstallaton, preferably n daylght. Bear n mnd that wood s not a homogeneous materal. There can be dfferences between the ndvdual planks just as there are dfferences between ndvdual trees. The occurrence of sap wood, knots and cracks s dependent on the selected gradng and chosen range. These are natural features of wood and cannot be consdered as a product fault. Therefor you should always check f you have the rght mpresson off the floor before nstallaton and that you have all the nformaton. If a parquet panel has been nstalled t s consdered as accepted and any defects or colour varaton affectng ths panel cannot form any ground off complant. We recommend that the panels are mxed from several packs durng nstallaton. InstallatonInfo_Wood_GLUED_Unclc_ENG.ndd 1 22/02/ :20:59
3 After Preparaton recevng the floor packs these should be acclmatzed. Ths has to be done unopened and stored n a flat poston free from the wall and floorng pror to nstallaton. Recommended s to store them at a normal room temperature (15-20 C / F) and a relatve humdty level between 25-85% for a mnmum of 48 hours pror to nstallaton. A Pergo floor s composed of natural wood and wll naturally expand and contract upon changes n the relatve humdty. The dmensonal varaton of an nstalled floor wll be slghtly more n wdth compared to the length. For example: at 20 C and a RH between 40-60%, the movement s lmted. Pergo wood floorng s produced and delvered wth a mosture content to cope wth an RH between 25-85%. In a dry clmate, for example n the Nordcs durng wnter tme, the RH mght drop below 25% and n summertme rse above 70%. Ths wll create a movement n your floor surface. To secure enough clearance for ths natural movement and to avod open jonts, squeakng, etc. Always keep a dlataton jont of 10 mm average to the walls, thresholds, starcases, ppes, etc. Durng the nstallaton of normal resdental room sze. Use the spacers of the nstallaton kt to keep the correct clearance. Installng n wnter tme n very low RH, the clearance should lowered to 8 mm (low RH = floor shrnks). If nstallng n summer tme wth a hgh RH level the clearance should be rased to 15 mm (hgh RH = floor expands). The clearance should be left open and must not be flled by any sealant, slcone or other adhesve. A floatng nstallaton s a floatng nstallaton so never fasten the floorng wth nals, glue, screws or n any other way. 30% Yearly RH % 50% 500 mm 75% x = 8 mm x = 10 mm x = 12 mm 500 mm >15 C 25-85% RH X X 48h 4 When glung the floor, the current floor coverng must be removed completely. The subfloor must be frm, hard, dry, even and must be conform to the standard. Be aware of the fact that any wood and/or organc materal mght/wll dry out locally and damage the parquet f any heatng source lke hot fans, wood stoves etc. s creatng hgh temperatures. InstallatonInfo_Wood_GLUED_Unclc_ENG.ndd 2 22/02/ :21:00
5 The Preparaton entre subfloor must be carefully checked for any type of unevenness. Use a straght edge of 1 m approxmately, make sure there are no unevenness s of more than 2 mm. Peaks hgher than 1,2 mm wthn a 250 mm radus are also prohbted. If needed use a levellng compound to acheve correct flatness of the base floor mm < 2 mm 250 mm < 1,2 mm 6 To acheve optmal sound reducton, best walkng comfort, avod squeakng and to level mnor unevenness we strongly recommend usng a Pergo underlay. A floatng nstallaton done on screed, a cement based subfloor or when floor heatng s nvolved, a vapour barrer must be nstalled. If the chosen Pergo underlay does not have a vapour barrer a 0,2 mm PE-flm has to be used as a mnmum damp screen. Make sure the PE-flm overlaps wth a mnmum of 200 mm. In case of a floatng nstallaton wth any other type of underlay that s not a Pergo underlay the same techncal specfcatons must be met. In case of problems and the underlay s the cause no warranty wll be vald. Recommended PERGO underlayments. 7 Pergo wood floorng must not be nstalled n a typcal wet room or n rooms wth a floor dran. An nstallaton drectly on floor josts s prohbted. 8 Mneral subfloors such as concrete must be suffcently dry pror to nstallaton (< 2,5% CM / 75 % RH). If the mosture content s hgher or may become hgher other types of damp proofng must be used. <2,5 CM% / Tramex RH 75% Mnmum 0,2 mm PE + PERGO underlayment or comb InstallatonInfo_Wood_GLUED_Unclc_ENG.ndd 3 22/02/ :21:01
9 Plan Preparaton the nstallaton drecton of the planks carefully before start up. Normally we recommend nstallaton parallel to the ncomng lght. If the room s long and narrow lke n a hallway we would nstall parallel to the long walls. Be aware of the fact natural colour wll be affected by sun lght (dscolouraton by UV lght s nevtable). Ths mght lead to natural fadng and colour changes whch are not a product fault. InstallatonInfo_Wood_GLUED_Unclc_ENG.ndd 4 22/02/ :21:01
Installaton 1 Pergo wood floors are easy to nstall and requre no expensve tools. In addton to a few common DIY tools (glue, glue trowel, foldng rule, pencl, hammer, handsaw or jgsaw, carpenters square and possble power drll and hand gloves) you only need the Pergo nstallaton kt contanng a tappng block, pull bar and spacers. Be sure you have all tools avalable before startng the nstallaton. 3mm 5mm 1mm 2mm 5mm 3mm 5mm 2mm 1mm 2mm 5mm 2mm 2 When cuttng the Pergo wood plank be sure you are not creatng splnters or chppng when cuttng. If usng a handsaw keep the decoratve surface faced up. If usng a jgsaw keep decoratve surface down. 3 Every Pergo wood plank s methodcally checked for any mperfectons before beng packed. Stll, packs can be damaged durng transportaton or when the packs are opened. Do not nstall a plank wth a damaged surface, edge or clck jont. Carefully nspect each plank before nstallng. At Pergo a box can contan one plank that conssts out of multple, shorter begn/end peces to ease your nstallaton. The amount of shorter begn/end peces per box can vary between two and three. Cumulatve length of all shorter peces wll always be equal to the length of one standard plank. Be aware of the fact wood s not a homogeneous materal. There wll be dfferences from plank to plank as there are dfferences from tree to tree. These aspect provdes you wth the warm and natural feelng a parquet floor has to offer. Knots and cracks wll also appear dependng on the gradng and the chosen range. Ths s natural and wll not be consdered as a product fault. Therefore always be sure you have got the rght mpresson of the floor and nformaton from the dealer before nstallaton. An nstalled plank s consdered as accepted and cannot be clamed. We recommend to mx the boards, takng planks out of dfferent boxes at the same tme when nstallng. InstallatonInfo_Wood_GLUED_Unclc_ENG.ndd 5 22/02/ :21:02
Installaton 4 Parquet panels can be nstalled floatng or glued down. 5 Drect glung can only be performed on a subfloor that s sutable for t (n terms of flatness, frmness, cracks, etc.) n conformty wth general prncples and standards. The subfloor must be suffcently dry, hard and homogeneous. Make sure to use a sutable glue. Follow the nstructons regardng dryng tme, consumpton, applcaton, etc. These nstructons need to be provded by the glue manufacturer. If you are glung down your floor try to walk on t as lttle as possble on the glued secton durng nstallaton. < 12 m < 8 m 6 In a glued nstallaton you have no length and wdth restrctons. An expanson gap around the permeter of the room s stll oblgated but a T mouldng n the doorways s not necessary anymore. < 8 m < 12 m X X X 7 Before startng carefully measure the length and the wdth of the room to pan a precse lay-out to acheve a balanced appearance of the floor. Ths wll ensure also you won t end up wth the last row beng too narrow. If the last row would be less than 40 mm the nstallaton wll be easer f you cut down the planks of the frst row n the wdth. >40mm InstallatonInfo_Wood_GLUED_Unclc_ENG.ndd 6 22/02/ :21:02
Installaton 8 Often the nstallaton s done parallel to the long walls of the room. The most common drecton of nstallaton of all types of wood floors s from left to rght wth the tongue sde (A) facng the startng wall.. The planks should be nstalled facng the tongue sde (A) to the wall. Always remember the spacers to ensure your expanson gap! Thanks to the PerfectFold patent the nstallaton s very easy. Ths patent makes t very smple to dsmantle a plank f needed wthout destroyng the connecton mechansm. The end jont can be assembled n dfferent ways by foldng down anglng, sldng or tappng n horzontally. The quckest, easest and most secure way s by foldng down. A rubber hammer can be a handy tool to double check the jonts and gently tap them f needed. 9 Narrow down the wdth of the frst row or as a mnmum cut off the tongue to acheve the frst dstance to the wall. If the wall s curved/uneven the frst row has to be cut and coped to the contour of the wall. Use spacers! Cut off the tongue on the frst plank also on the short sde. Ths plank wll then have the plastc tongue n the end to the rght sde. 10 Install the frst 2 rows n accordance to the llustraton. We recommend the overlap/staggerng between end jonts to be about 1/3 of the plank length but never less than 300 mm. Installng the frst 2 rows lke shown wll help keep a straght lne to start the rest of the nstallaton. The cut off from the frst and second row should normally be perfect as startng planks n the 3 and 4 row. Always remember usng the spacers to keep the correct dstance to the walls. Lft the connectng plank up n an angle of about degrees, push t nto the long sde groove and slde t gently towards the left untl the plank ends meet. Push the plank frmly downwards to the floor and the perfectfold system wll lock the jont perfectly n the end. Always check every jont before contnung (gently tap wth rubber hammer and tappng block f needed). 1/3-1/2 (> 300 mm) InstallatonInfo_Wood_GLUED_Unclc_ENG.ndd 7 22/02/ :21:03
11 Installaton For a nce fnsh where the next floorng meets a threshold we recommend undercuttng the mouldngs of the door. To secure the correct cut off turn a plank upsde down and place t on the floor up to the frame. Then place the hand saw flat aganst the plank and smply cut trough the frame/mouldng as shown. Remove the cut out and vacuum away dust. Then you can smply slde the floor underneath the frame/mouldng and make a perfect fnsh. Please note that ths operaton s recommended to be done before startng the glue down process! To nstall Pergo wood floorng around ppes, carefully measure and mark the planks wth the exact centre pont for each ppe. Drll a hole at each of the marked ponts that s equvalent to the dameter of the ppe + 16 mm n dry clmate and 24 mm n wet clmate. If located on the long sde of the plank make a 45 degree cut from each hole to the edge of the plank and then cut between the holes as shown. If located on the end of a plank make a straght cut across the plank. Install the plank. Use spacers to secure a tght glue pont and remove any glue on the floor surface drectly wth a damp cloth. The gap you have created between the ppes are to ensure the floor can move as expected from season to season. These cannot be flled wth any sealant, slcone or other adhesve. Use the Pergo radator caps to conceal gaps around radator ppes. Ø D Ø D + 10 mm/ + 20 mm 13 Inspect the fnal surface of the nstalled floor, remove all spacers and nstall the Pergo wood wallbases accordng to the nstructons followng the wallbases. Avod foot traffc untl the glue s cured completely. (Follow the glue manufactures nstructons). InstallatonInfo_Wood_GLUED_Unclc_ENG.ndd 8 22/02/ :21:03
1 2 Cleanng Instructons When glung down the floor do not use the floor f the glue s not dry (follow nstructons of the glue manufacturer). After nstallaton t s recommended to have crcumstances of C and a RH level between 25-85%. Durng wnter tme the ar n the rooms s usually extremely dry, for ths reason t s strongly recommended to use humdfers n order to obtan a constant humdty level. In the summer and autumn, when there s a hgh relatve humdty the room should be well ventlated. To remove drt and dust from the floor use a dry mop, a brush or a vacuum cleaner. Make sure the vacuum cleaner s equpped wth soft wheels and a specal parquet brush to avod scratchng your floor. Never use a steam cleaner to clean your wooden floor. For the frst cleanng of the floor make sure to frst remove ALL dust and drt before usng a cloth. Wet mantenance of a wooden floor s absolutely forbdden. 3 Only use the recommended cleanng products for floor mantenance. Remember that usng other cleanng products may damage your floor. Always wpe the floor dry mmedate so that no more mosture or lqud s vsble on the floor. Bevelled parquets must only be cleaned wth a dry cloth. 4 Castor chars must have castors of the so called type soft wheels and a plastc protector mat should be placed under the area where the char s placed/used. All furnture legs should be protected by felt pads to avod scratchng the lacquered/oled surface. Avod sldng/draggng furnture over the wooden surface to avod possble scratchng. Lftng the furnture s recommended. Always place a qualty door mat at any entrance door to avod ntroducton of sand, drt or water whch mght create scratches. Softwheel InstallatonInfo_Wood_GLUED_Unclc_ENG.ndd 9 22/02/ :21:04
Cleanng Instructons 5 Specal cleanng nstructons are at hand wth your Pergo dealer or on the webste of these products. Please read them wth care before mantanng your lacquered/oled surface. 6 The manufacturer bears no responsblty for problems or damage whch arses through nexpert preparaton of the subfloor, the floor nstallaton tself or the exposton of the floor to unsutable clmatc condtons/mantenance. The rght for compensaton for damaged or dfferently coloured panels does not extend to parquets whch already have been nstalled. In nonstandard cases we recommend you to nform yourself suffcently wth regards to the specfc requrements of our constructon project. In the event of further questons please contact your retaler.
