1 Preparaton 1 Pergo domestc Elegance s delvered wth nstructons n the form of llustratons. The texts below provde explanatons for the llustratons, and are dvded n three areas: Preparaton, Installaton and Cleanng nstructons. We recommend that you read through ths nformaton carefully whle studyng each llustraton. In case of doubts or questons please contact your dealer or techncal servces. The use of the orgnal Pergo accessores s strongly recommended to beneft from the full Pergo warranty. 1 = 2 Pergo domestc Elegance can be bought n dfferent decors. Make sure you have receved the floorng that you ordered before startng the nstallaton. It s always a good dea to store one end label together wth your recept. 2 3 After recevng the floor packs these should be acclmatzed, unopened and stored n a flat poston free from the wall and floorng pror to nstallaton. We recommend storng them at normal room temperature (between degrees C / degrees F) and a relatve humdty (RH) between 30 75% for a mnmum of 48 hours pror to nstallaton mm 500 mm 48h >15 C 30-75% RH 4 Pergo domestc Elegance must be nstalled on a sold, selfsupportng subfloor, wood floorng or floors covered wth seamless, undamaged vnyl. In case of textle floor coverngs, however, both the textle floorng and the eventual underlayment must be removed. 4

2 Preparaton 5 The entre subfloor must be carefully checked for any unevenness. Usng a 1 m straght edge, make sure there are no unevenness of more than 2mm. Also make sure there are no peaks hgher than 1.2mm wthn a 250mm radus. In case of sand or grnd peaks, use self-levelng compound as needed to acheve correct flatness. Let ths cure and dry before nstallaton. Ask your dealer for advce mm < 2 mm 250 mm < 1,2 mm 6 After checkng the subfloor for unevenness, carefully vacuum the entre surface. To avod rsk of squeakng, secure any loose partcleboard, OSB, fberboard, tmber planks etc. wth screws. 6 7 To acheve optmal sound protecton, best possble walkng comfort, to avod squeakng n jonts and to level out mnor unevenness n the subfloor an approprate Pergo underlayment s strongly recommended. Ask your dealer for advce. If other than Pergo underlays are used or f the chosen Pergo underlay does not have a vapour barrer, a 0,2mm PE-flm has to be nstalled as a mnmum damp protecton f such s needed (see ll.10). The PE-flm must be overlappng n the seams at least 200mm. 7 Recommended PERGO underlayments. 8 Pergo domestc Elegance must not be nstalled n a typcal wet room or n rooms wth a floor dran. 8

3 9 Preparaton Pergo domestc Elegance s desgned to be nstalled as a floatng floor to allow natural expanson and contracton wth changes n temperature and humdty. To acheve the benefts of a floatng floor and to avod possble gaps, squeakng etc. never fasten the floor wth nal, screws, slcone etc Mneral subfloors such as concrete must be suffcently dry pror to nstallaton. (<2,5% CM / 75% Tramex). If the mosture content s hgher, or may become hgher, other types of damp proofng lke Pergo MosturBloc must be used. Ask your dealer for advce. A vapour barrer must be used when nstallng Pergo on mneral subfloors regardless the age of the subfloor. Pergo Smart Underlay+ and Pergo Professonal SoundBloc have an approprate vapour barrer bultn. In all other cases, always use a 0,2mm PE-fol under the regular underlayment. 10 <2,5 CM% / Tramex RH 75% PERGO comb underlay/ 0,20 mm PE fol + Pergo underlayment 11 When nstallng Pergo domestc Elegance on under floor heatng a vapor barrer always must be put down before recommended underlay s nstalled. We recommend usng one of the Pergo underlays whch have a vapour barrer ncluded. Your dealer or nstaller of the underfloor heatng system must guarantee that the surface temperature never exceed 28 C. 11 Max 28 C PERGO comb underlay/ 0,20 mm PE fol + Pergo underlayment

4 Preparaton 12 A Pergo lamnate floor s manly composed of natural wood and wll naturally expand and contract upon changes n the relatve humdty. The dmensonal varaton of the nstalled floor wll almost be equal n length and wdth. At 20 C and a relatve humdty, RH, between 40-60%, the movement s mnmal. Pergo lamnate floorng s produced and delvered wth a mosture content to cope wth a RH between 30-60%. In dry clmate, for example n the Nordcs durng wnter tme, the RH mght drop below 30% and n summertme rse above 70%. Ths wll create movements n the floor surface. To secure enough clearance for the natural movements and to avod possble open jonts, squeakng etc. always keep a dlataton jont of 5mm average to walls, thresholds, starcases, ppes etc. durng nstallaton. Use the spacers of the nstallaton kt to keep the rght clearance. Installng n wnter tme n very low RH, the clearance to the wall should be lowered to 3mm snce the floor panels wll shrnk, and f nstallng n hgh RH clmate the clearance should be rased to 8mm snce the floor panels wll expand. The clearance must be left open and may NOT be flled by any sealant, slcone or other adhesve. Never fasten the floor wth nals, glue, screws or n any other way % RH % 50% 75% X X x = 3 mm x = 5 mm x = 8 mm 13 Due to the fact that all types of wood materal by nature wll shrnk and expand and cope to the changes n relatve humdty and temperature we keep as a general rule not to nstall Pergo lamnate n room sze more than 13x13 meter. If the surface to cover s bgger, ask the dealer or Pergo techncal servce about optons. It s mandatory to nstall T-moldngs n any doorway. In typcal T L or U shaped rooms t may also be necessary to nstall a dlataton jont. Ask for advce n case of doubt. 13 < 13 m < 13 m

5 Preparaton 14 A Pergo 5-n-1 moldng s a perfect soluton n stuatons lke llustrated. Ths moldng can also take care of transton as well as fnshng edges aganst vertcal surfaces such as thresholds, sldng door 14 frames etc. (End moldng). When usng the 5-n-1 moldng, always remember to keep the rght dlataton gap between the nstalled floor and the metal track. < 13 m < 13 m X X X

6 Installaton 15 Pergo domestc Elegance are easy to nstall and requre no expensve specalty tools. In addton to a few common DIY tools (foldng rule, pencl, hammer, handsaw or jgsaw, carpenters square and possble power drll and workng gloves), you only need a Pergo Installaton Kt contanng a tappng block, pull bar and spacers. Be sure you have all tools avalable before startng the nstallaton. 15 3mm 5mm 1mm 2mm 5mm 3mm 5mm 2mm 1mm 2mm 5mm 2mm 16 When cuttng the Pergo plank, be sure you are not creatng splnters or chppng when cuttng. If usng a hand saw, keep the decoratve surface faced up, and f usng a jgsaw keep the decoratve surface down Every Pergo plank s methodcally checked for any mperfectons before beng packed. Stll, packs or planks can be damaged durng transportaton or when the packs are opened. Do not nstall a plank wth a damaged surface, edge or clck jont. Carefully nspect each plank before and durng the nstallaton n good lght condtons. An nstalled plank s consdered as accepted, and can not be clamed. 17

7 18 Installaton Before startng, carefully measure the length and the wdth of the room to plan a precse layout to acheve a balanced appearance of the floor. Ths wll ensure also you won t end up wth the last row beng too narrow. If the last row would be less than 40mm, the nstallaton wll be easer f you cut down the planks of the frst row n the length. 18 >40mm 19 Often the nstallaton s done parallel to the long walls of the room. The most common drecton of nstallaton for all type of lamnate floors s to go from left to rght, and ths nformaton s referrng to an nstallaton from left to rght. The planks should be nstalled facng the tongue sde (A) to the wall. Always remember the spacers. 19

8 Installaton 20 Narrow down the wdth of the planks of the frst row (ref. llustraton no. 18 and 19) or as a mnmum cut off the tongue to acheve the rght dstance to the wall. If the wall s curved/uneven, the frst row has to be cut and coped to the contour off the wall. Use spacers! The frst plank n the row should now have the profle B to the rght. The easest way to connect the plank ends together s by a rotatng fold down movement. You can tap the jont gently together usng the Pergo tappng block and a hammer The easest way to connect the planks s by a rotatng movement. Install the frst plank n the second row by rotatng t n on the long sde to the frst row. Rotate n the second plank n the end of the frst plank, and angle up the two planks n about 20 degrees and rotate n the long jont. You can tap the long jont together keepng the planks n a flat poston usng the tappng block and a hammer Install the frst 2 rows n accordance to the llustraton. We recommend the overlap/staggerng between end jonts to be about 1/3 of the plank length, but never less than 300mm. Installng the 2 frst rows lke shown wll help to keep a straght edge to start the rest of the nstallaton. The cut off from the frst and second row should normally be perfect as startng planks n the thrd and fourth row. Always remember usng the spacers to keep the rght dstance to walls etc. 22 1/3-1/2 (> 300 mm)

9 Installaton 23 For a nce fnsh where the new floorng meets a threshold, we recommend undercuttng the moldngs of the door. To secure the rght cut off, turn a Pergo plank upsde down and place t on the floor up to the door frame. Then, place the hand saw flat aganst the plank and smply cut through the frame/moldng as shown. Remove the cut out and vacuum away derbes. You can then smply slde the floor underneath the frame/moldng when nstallng and make a perfect fnsh For the fnal row, cut the planks n the proper wdth rememberng to leave the recommended expanson space and makng necessary adjustments to follow the contour of the wall. If there s a doorway n ths wall, clck the plank n on the long sde at the sde of the undercutted moldng, slde/tap the plank underneath and tap the end together usng the Pergo tappng block. Control the tghtness n the jont, and use the pull bar to secure absolute tghtness n the long jont. 24

10 25 Installaton To nstall Pergo domestc Elegance floorng around ppes, carefully measure and mark the planks wth the exact centre pont for each ppe. Drll a hole at each of the marked ponts that s equvalent to the dameter of the ppe + 16mm. If located on the long sde of the plank, make a 45 degree cut from each hole to the edge of the plank, and then cut between the holes as shown. If located on the end of a plank, make a straght cut across the plank. Install the plank. Then, usng Pergo SafeSeal or regular wood glue along the cut edges of the pece you cut out, glue the pece n place where t belongs. Be sure no glue comes between the cut out pece and the subfloor. Use spacers to secure a tght glue jont, and remove any glue or SafeSeal on the floor surface drectly wth a damp cloth. The gap you have created between the ppes are to ensure the floor can move as expected from season from season, and are NOT to be flled wth any sealant, slcone or other adhesve. Use Pergo radator caps to conceal gaps around radator ppes. 25 Ø D Ø D + 13 mm/ + 20 mm cf.

11 Cleanng Instructons 26 Inspect the fnal surface of the nstalled floor, remove all spacers and nstall Pergo wall bases accordng to the nstructons followng the wall bases After nstallaton, vacuum usng a vacuum head wth soft edges Dry mop or sweep the floor to remove drt and dust. Wpe the floor wth hand warm water contanng one or two bottle caps of Pergo all-round cleaner and usng Pergo mcro fber mop. The daly cleanng should follow the nstructons on the Pergo web ste. The use of napproprate cleanng products mght damage the floorng surface. 28

12 29 Cleanng Instructons Castor chars must have castors made for hard surfaces, so called Soft wheels. 29 Softwheel 30 All furnture legs should be protected wth felt pads to avod scratchng the fnshed surface. Avod sldng heavy furnture etc. over the Pergo floor to avod possble scratchng. Lftng the furnture s recommended. Always place a qualty door mat at any entrance door to protect for sand and drt whch mght create scratches. 30
