MAREE by DANA /Tutorial /Wigging /Pattern MiniatureART.com Decadent Tea Party Class 1 November 2015
Greetings and welcome to our 2016 online classes... the DECADENT TEA PARTY series. In the following months... we will create 5 beautiful, strong, lavish women attired in all sorts of opulent adornments. You can do them individually, or showcase all in a room box setting. The fun is in the research, planning and purchasing of this new project! **NOTES** Did you know that Marie Antoinette s true hair color was the same as our doll? RED GOLD 1. On your student web page, are detailed pdfs on the storyline, tips and more. I created these files as printable pages - rather then webpages for those that like to print out and read. 2. My student count is set, and Monday 10/5 I can call in the order for all the supplies. I expect delivery by next weekend. Then I will start shipping out kits. 3. If you need basic help with shoe decoration, doll assembly, adding to stand etc... please click the TIPS link on student webpage. 4. Have you started on your LADYBUG yet? Our MAREE has her ladybug on feather (hair)... see photo to right! 5. Lastly, after this page, my text is direct and to the point for our foreign speaking students using translators. Page 2
PREPARATION 1. Paint your doll shoes. 2. Assemble your doll. She should be 5 3/4 tall. This wonderful mold by Patricia Rose has a bit larger torso - so we need the extra height. 3. Put your doll on stand. We need a firm base to drape on. 4. Create a small rectangle petticoat (flat) to cover pipecleaner armature. Please note, this doll was originally poured to be my flapper girl for the WIGGING CLUB hence the cut off hips. IF you need ANY additional explanation with above - simply click to the TIPS link on student webpage for further tutorials and videos. BODICE 1. Glue silver material across front torso. I cheated and used a bit of superglue at back edges to hold on porcelain doll. 2. Glue decorative black/silver strip down front. ALL metallic trim takes a LONG TIME to glue! Be patient. 3. Glue trim on front and shoulders. 4. Cut 1 strips of silk ribbon and glue on for shoulder and front bows. (I made a loop, glued center and pinched to form bow) 5. Glue on padding to each hip (I used cut down cosmetic sponges), and glue rectangle of silver across FRONT as shown in photo. Only a SMALL sliver shows in skirt. VARIABLES! Your doll may differ in construction (fatness) or height. Cut patterns out of paper towel first to adjust if necessary~! Page 3
SKIRT 1. Cut out two pattern pieces. Turn edges under to wrong side and glue. 2. Glue lace around edges as shown. 3. Gather Waist and glue each skirt piece around dolls hips. LET THOROUGHLY DRY. 4. Extend edges of skirt as shown below. 5. Follow the visual directions (photos) to shape your skirt on next page. Page 4
Page 5
6. AFTER THOUGHT... I would shape EACH skirt side... BEFORE adding the batiste puffs. This way you can control the eveness of skirt shape. **HINTS** -I added a couple of stay stitches to help hold the skirt in place. -I glued in folds/ridges in skirt to help hold the shape. -BEFORE I glued in white batiste on sides, I sprayed several light layers of fabric stiffener (I used hairspray) to hold skirt upright. Now you can see why we glued in the lace on wrong side of skirt... NEXT STEP... the BATISTE SIDES... Page 6
BATISTE SIDES 1. Cut (2) - 8 x 4 pieces of batiste. 2. Divide skirt into three lines (gather each and draw up to form puffs) as seen in photos. 3. Glue each individual *PUFF* inside open skirt side. Let dry thoroughly. **NOTE**... I couldn t make each side match perfectly! After you add trims or decoration - trust me - you won t notice! So don t get frustrated! Here are different angles to help you understand... Page 7
DECORATION 1. Glue on silver/black trim down front. 2. RUCHE silk ribbon, then iron flat and glue along front edges of skirt. 3. I cut two half strips of silver/black trim and glue ends under ruching. 4. Cut tiny snippets of the chenille and glue on ruched ribbon for added texture/detail. 5. GLUE on pearls, no hole blue beads as desired. I *colored* my pearls with dots of fingernail polish to make grey. 6. Add bows, trims as desired. OPTIONS: Cut strips of material, make into loops and glue to front of dress or top. See large photo next page for placement of decoration. Use this as a base - feel free to add your own touches! At this point I was getting tired... so I went to get a drink. I came back --- and what was on my glasses? FIRST ONE I saw in months! Guess who was energized after THAT! SIGNS... everywhere SIGNS Page 8
