3 Notions and Fabric Designs By Jude Hollywood Ahoy! For 16 Fashion Dolls Fabric: Notions: silk dupioni, satin, taffeta or similar, lace for overlay for dress and hat. Light weight cotton, china silk, polyester or silk essence for dress lining. Nylon, lycra or swim suit fabric for opera gloves Matching thread, 4 zipper, 1 hook and eye, optional trims and netting for hat. General Cutting and Marking Directions 1. Lay out all pieces following grain lines on pattern. Cut the number indicated on the pattern. 2. Cut notches no deeper than 1/8 or use disappearing marker. Seam allowances are ¼ unless otherwise noted on the pattern or in the instructions. 3. Serging seams creates bulk and is not recommended unless otherwise indicated in the directions. Fray check or similar product should be used on raw edges where fray is a concern. If your fabric doesn t ravel or fray there is no need to use anything. Sewing Directions Dress 1. When using a lace overlay, treat the fabric and the lace as one layer. 2. With right sides together, sew skirt back sections to skirt front at the side seams. 3. With right sides together sew skirt lining back sections to skirt front lining at the side seams. 4. With RST pin lining to skirt, sew lower hem edge. Turn and press. 5. With right sides together, sew center of skirt backs along raw edges, between bottom and center dot. Press seam open and press un-sewn raw edge open approx. ½ for skirt split and zipper openings. Repeat for skirt lining. 6. Starting ½ from back edge run a gather stitch across the upper edge of skirt and lining, stopping ½ from back edge on the other side. 7. With right sides together sew darts in midriff front, press darts to center. Repeat for midriff front lining and press darts outward. With right sides together sew darts in midriff back, press darts to center. Repeat for lining and press darts outward. 8. With right sides together sew midriff backs to midriff front along raw edges of sides, matching notches. Press seams open. Repeat for lining. 9. Gather upper and lower edge of bust piece between dots. 10. Repeat with lining. 11. With right sides together sew bust bottom gathered edge to midriff top raw edge matching centers and notch to midriff side seam. 12. With right sides together, matching side seams sew bottom raw edge of midriff to skirt, press upward. 13. Gather upper and lower edge of bust lining piece between dots. 14. With right sides together sew bust lining bottom gathered edge to midriff lining top raw edge matching centers and notch to midriff side seams. 15. Fit bust to doll by pulling the gather stitch, then with right sides together sew the bust lining to the bust at the top edge. Turn and press. 16. Turn bottom edge of midriff lining under ¼ and press. 17. With wrong sides together press dress center back opening of midriff and skirt and midriff lining and skirt lining, open approx. ½ for zipper opening. Check fit to doll. Pin zipper in place and set with a hand prick stitch or baste and set with a machine stitch. A hand prick stitch is the couture method. 18. Turn dress wrong side out and slip stitch lining along both sides of zipper tape and around the waist. Slip stitch lining spilt opening to dress split opening along both sides. Turn dress right side out and press. 19. Sew hook and eye to the top of dress closure. Hat 1. With right sides together, sew around the outside edge of eacc piece, leaving a small opening for turning.

4 2. Turn each piece, press and hand finish opening. 3. On the round end create the shape by making a dart and tacking in place. 4. Stack the three pieces together and decorate as desired with netting, beads and feathers. Gloves 1. Fold upper edge of the sleeve under ¼ and top stitch. 2. With right sides together, fold each glove in half. Stitch around the outline leaving the top open. 3. Clip seams, turn right side out.
