12 EMBROIDERY STEP 1 Prep fabric by applying 2 sheets of StabilStick TearAway to the wrong side of the fabric. Note - this stabilizes your fabric so it isn t too limp and produces a nice, crisp project. Note - EXCEPT for the base. You will use Fiber Form on the pieces for the base. STEP 2 Hoop two sheets of Aquamesh. Sew placement stitch. STEP 3 Place fabric over placement stitch and make sure to cover stitches completely. Stitch cut line and tackdown. Optional - use TearAway tape to hold items in place. 12

13 EMBROIDERY STEP 4 Remove tape, carefully. Remove hoop from machine, DO NOT unhoop fabric/stabilizer. Trim along cut line. Repeat placement and cut line steps for the remaining appliques. STEP 5 Finish stitching design. STEP 6 Remove from hoop, trim Aquamesh ¼ -½ away from fabric, be careful NOT to cut your eyelets or buttonettes! Wash away stabilizer and let dry. Note - for instructions and tips, see last page. 13

14 EMBROIDERY STEP 1 Prep fabric by applying 1 sheet of Fiber Form to the wrong side of the fabric. Repeat for all base pieces. Note - Fiber Form is used to balance weight for the tall structure and make it rigid STEP 2 Hoop two sheets of Aquamesh. Stitch placement stitch. STEP 3 Place prepped fabric with the Fiber Form over placement stitch and make sure to cover stitches completely. Stitch cut line and tackdown. Optional - use TearAway tape to hold items in place. 14

15 EMBROIDERY STEP 4 Remove tape, carefully. Remove hoop from machine, DO NOT unhoop fabric/stabilizer. Trim along cut line. Repeat placement and cut line steps for the remaining appliques. 16 ASSEMBLY STEP 1 BEFORE assembling your Nutcracker, use a fine blade to cut your tab slits on all applicable pieces. Assemble the hat by starting with folding the Hat FSA piece and buttoning the 2 buttonettes. STEP 2 Attach the 8 buttonettes on Hat Base FSL to the 8 eyelets on the bottom of Hat FSA. Do NOT attach Hat Top FSA yet. STEP 3 Assemble the head by taking the Head FSA piece and folding it first and then buttoning the 2 buttonettes. 16

17 ASSEMBLY STEP 4 From the top of the hat reach through and pull the 6 buttonettes from Head FSA through the 6 eyelets on Hat Base FSL using alligator clamps. STEP 5 Complete the Head and Hat Assembly by attaching the 8 buttonettes on Hat Top FSA to the 8 eyelets of Hat FSA. 17

18 ASSEMBLY STEP 6 Note - If you haven t already cut your tab slits, do so now. To begin the body assembly, take Body 1 FSA and Body 2 FSA and button the front, sides, top and bottom buttons only. Note - leave the back unbuttoned to help attach the head and leg assemblies to the body. STEP 7 To attach the head go through the unbuttoned back and pull the 2 tabs from Head FSA through the 2 slits on top of Body 1 FSA. 18

19 ASSEMBLY STEP 8 To assemble the legs, take Legs FSA and Back of Legs FSA and insert the 8 buttonettes to their corresponding eyelets. STEP 9 To create the Nutcracker s feet, insert the 2 buttonettes to their corresponding eyelets. 19

20 ASSEMBLY STEP 10 To attach the feet to the leg assembly, insert the tabs on the feet through the slits on the leg assembly. STEP 11 To attach the scabbard, unbutton the belt s front left buttonette and place the loop over it and rebutton it to its corresponding eyelet. 20

21 ASSEMBLY STEP 12 Using the unbuttoned back, attach the leg assembly to the body by inserting the 4 tabs from the leg assembly into the 4 slits on the bottom of the body. STEP 13 Now that the head and leg assemblies are attached to the body, button the remaining 13 buttonettes. 21

22 ASSEMBLY STEP 14 To shape the Nutcracker s arms, simply fold and button the 3 buttonettes to their corresponding eyelets. STEP 15 To attach the arms to the body, use alligator clamps to pull the 3 buttonettes on the arm through the 3 eyelets of the shoulder. Repeat for the other arm. 22

23 ASSEMBLY STEP 16 To build the Base, take the 4 Base Wall FSA pieces and attach them to the Base Top FSA by pulling the 3 buttonettes through the Base Top FSA. Attach each Base Wall FSA to its neighbor. Do NOT attach the Base Floor FSA piece just yet, because the Nutcracker must be on its base first. STEP 17 To attach the Nutcracker onto the base, arrange the base and Nutcracker so the tabs line up to their corresponding slits. Through the base opening, pull the tabs through the base slits. To complete the project, insert the remaining 8 buttonettes on the Base Floor FSA to the 8 remaining eyelets on the walls. 23

24 INSTRUCTIONS General Freestanding Lace Guidelines Supplies: General Instructions Embroidery Thread: 1. Hoop two layers of OESD AquaMesh Stabilizer. Use the same embroidery thread in the bobbin as the needle. 2. Attach the hoop to the machine and select the design of your Needles: choice.
