PHOTO 1 3. Place a piece of appliqué fabric over the pattern/placement so that it is completely covered. 4. Sew the trim stitch/tackdown. 5. Carefully cut away the excess appliqué fabric.photo 2 6. 4 Instructions GENERAL FREESTANDING LACE GUIDELINES SUPPLIES: Embroidery Thread: Use the same embroidery thread in the bobbin as the needle. Needles: Use an Organ 80/12 Titanium needle for extended needle life. Stablilizer: Use water-soluable stabilizer or film water-soluble stabilizer. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS 1. Hoop two layers of water-soluble stabilizer. 2. Attach the hoop to the machine and select the design of your choice. 3. Stitch the design. 4. Remove the hoop from the machine and the design from the hoop. Trim excess stabilizer from the design. 5. Rinse away remaining stabilizer and allow it to dry. Handy tips: A pair of tweezers, hemostats, stiletto or a tiny crochet hook can be extremely helpful when inserting the buttonettes into the eyelets. (Please see Diagram 1 for explanation of buttonette and eyelet and hinge line.) Insert the tip of the tweezers, hemostats or crochet hook into the eyelet, grasp the buttonette and pull through the eyelet. A stiletto could be used to push the buttonette through the eyelet. The lace looks best when left to dry completely. Be sure to flatten the piece out entirely and allow ample time to dry. If item becomes too limp to work with, dissolve scrap pieces of water-soluble stabilizer in warm water and apply to the item to re-stiffen. Alternatively you can iron the appliqué pieces on the wrong side while applying spray starch. After ironing, spray again with starch and allow to dry completely. This will stiffen the lace pieces nicely and aid in construction. HANDY HINTS: DO NOT RINSE away all of the stabilizer for a stiffer lace. Note that the thread may appear a shade darker if stabilizer is not removed completely. If you happen to wash too much out, easily re-stiffen by diluting some stabilizer scraps in water and dipping the item in the solution. Drying Lace: Lay lace piece with right side down to dry. Strands of holiday lights may be strung through the sides of the bridge for a muted glowing effect. Bridge Follow the General Freestanding Lace Guidelines (page 4) and Cut In Place Appliqué Instructions (page 3) and stitch the nine pieces required as listed in the summary above. Attach the arch supports to the outer wall by inserting the three buttonettes along the arch support into the three eyelets of the outer wall. Repeat this process for the second side of the bridge. Photo A Attach the topper by inserting the seven buttonettes of the outer wall into the eyelets of the topper. Repeat this process for the second side of the bridge. Photo B Attach the walkway to the inner wall by inserting the six buttonettes into the corresponding eyelets of the inner wall. For Photo A Photo B this the buttonettes need to be pulled through from the wrong side or bobbin side of the inner wall. This will be covered later in assembly. Repeat this process for the second side of the footpath. Photo C Attach one corner of the outer wall assembly to the inner wall assembly by inserting the buttonettes along one edge of the inner wall assembly to the eyelets of the outer wall assembly. 6 Instructions Starting from the same corner, attach the topper to the inner wall by inserting the five buttonettes of the inner wall to the eyelets of the topper on the outer wall assembly. Insert the buttonettes of the inner wall into the remaining eyelets along the edge of the outer wall. This will complete the corner. Repeat this process for the second side of the bridge. Repeat this process for the second side of the bridge. Photo E Your Free Standing Lace Bridge is complete! Photo E Tree Photo F Follow the General Freestanding Lace Guidelines (page 4) and stitch the fifteen pieces required as listed in the summary above. Assemble the lowest section of the tree ( ). Begin by inserting the upper and lower buttonettes of one tree panel into the eyelets of the next tree panel. Be sure the buttonettes are pulled through to emerge on the wrong side or bobbin side of the tree panel. Continue constructing until a fan of six tree panels is complete. Repeat this for the lower middle section ( ) of the tree. Photo F Attach the first and sixth tree panels by inserting the buttonette of the first tree panel into the eyelet of the sixth tree panel. See Photo G for suggested positioning of tool to ensure the buttonette is concealed inside the tree section. Repeat this for the lower middle section of the tree. The lower middle section is now complete. Set aside. Attach the lowest section of the tree to the tree support. Insert the buttonettes of the tree support into the eyelets located at the bottom of each tree panel. The lowest section is now complete. Set aside. Assemble the upper middle section ( ). Insert the button of one panel into the eyelet of the next panel. Continue this until all six panels are joined. See Photo H for suggested positioning of tool to ensure the buttonette is concealed inside the tree section. The upper middle section is now complete. Set aside. Repeat that process for the upper section of the tree ( ). The upper section is now complete. Assemble the tree as you wish. The upper middle section and upper section may stand alone as small shrubs. They may be stacked to form a small tree. The lowest, lower middle and upper middle may be stacked to form a medium tree or all four sections may be stacked to form a large tree.
