Print out the necessary pages from the PDF of the appliquè pattern(s). 2. Mark the right side of the pattern pieces so you ll know which direction to lay the pattern on the fabric. 3. Lightly spray the wrong side of the pattern pieces with temporary adhesive spray and allow it to set for a few minutes. 4. Place the pattern pieces on the right side of the fabric and carefully cut them out. PHOTO 1 5. Sew the placement stitch on your hooped fabric. PHOTO 2 6. With the paper still stuck to the right side of the appliqué fabric, spray the wrong side of the fabric with temporary spray adhesive. 7. Place the fabric inside the sewing placement stitch so that it matches the stitching line, and then remove the paper pattern. PHOTO 3 8. Sew the tackdown. PHOTO 4 9. Sew the remainder of the design and repeat for any remaining pieces. PHOTO 5 NOTE: The patterns are sized for the designs as they were made. If you resize the design, you will need to resize the pattern the same amount. You can print out the pattern at the normal size then copy it on a copy machine at the changed size. For example, resize the designs to 80%, resize the printed pattern to 80%. TIP: When Printing the patterns, make sure that the Fit to page option is UNCHECKED in the Print Dialog Box. 5 Tiling Scene Instructions Poppies are one of nature s most elegant floral gifts to the world of art. This modern embroidery tiling scene from Fresh Poppies Tiling Scene #12586 captures them beautifully, utilizing wonderful appliqué patterns and innovative stitches. Its smaller size and narrow shape make this project perfect for hanging in one s office or accentuating a small reading nook. For an added value, we have also included a small poppies collection for many other projects. Supplies OESD embroidery collection Fresh Poppies Tiling Scene #12586 Medium weight tear away stabilizer ⅔ yd. light green fabric (upper background embroidered tiles) ⅓ yd. medium green fabric (middle background embroidered tiles) ⅓ yd. dark green fabric (lower background embroidered tiles) ¼ yd. darker green fabric (leaves and binding) ⅓ yd. deep red fabric (poppy appliqué and backing) ⅛ yd. red orange fabric (poppies appliqué) ⅛ yd. orange fabric (poppies appliqué) ⅓ yd. or 12" x 25" piece cotton batting OESD Appliqué Fuse and Stick Isacord embroidery threads Temporary spray adhesive Curved safety pins Thread for piecing Cut NOTE: Using appliqué patterns, pre-cut the appliqué pieces using OESD Appliqué Fuse and Stick, according to manufacturer s directions. (1) 12" x 25" deep red fabric (backing) (2) 2 ¼" strips darker green fabric (binding) Embroidery Embroider one of each design files through on the light green fabric (upper background embroidered tiles), using two layers of medium weight tear away stabilizer. Embroider one of each design files through and on the medium green fabric (middle background embroidered tiles), using two layers of medium weight tear away stabilizer. Embroider one of design file on the dark green fabric (lower background embroidered tile), using two layers of medium weight tear away stabilizer. Using temporary spray adhesive, spray between two 10" x 14" pieces of tear away stabilizer and adhere to each other and to the wrong side of fabric (embroidered tiles). Hoop the pieces together. Embroider the design. Remove the fabric from the hoop. Repeat for the remaining design files. The last thing that will stitch in each of these designs is a border that is referred to on the thread chart as Seam Stitch. This stitch is very important in the process of assembling the wall hanging. It is vital that it is not skipped when embroidering. Stitch this in a thread color that will blend with the background fabric. It is a violation of Copyright law to make and distribute copies of instructions or artwork. Diagram

6 Tiling Scene Instructions Once the embroidery process is complete, trim away excess fabric by cutting ¼" away from the Seam Stitch. This process is easily done using a rotary cutter and ruler. PHOTO 1 NOTE: It may be easier to cut with the back of the tile showing since the Seam Stitch was stitched in a thread color that blended in with the background fabrics Photo 1 Construction After each block has been trimmed, lay out the pieces near your machine so that it is easy to put the blocks together. REFER TO DIAGRAM. PHOTO 2 Right sides together and pressing seams as you go, use a ¼" seam allowance, or simply stitch directly on top of the seam stitch that stitched last during the embroidery process and stitch together forming rows. When the above step is complete you will have five stitched rows. PHOTO 3 Stitch the five rows together in the same manner to complete the front of the wall hanging. Make sure as you sew that your intersections line up between the rows. PHOTO 4 Cut backing fabric and batting to be at least 1"- 2" larger than the finished size of your project. Layer a quilt sandwich, by placing back wrong side up, cotton batting, and the tiling scene right side up. Use curved safety pins or temporary spray adhesive to baste the layers together. PHOTO 5 Quilt as desired. In our sample we simply stitched in the ditch along the tiles. Square up the quilt, this is trimming the quilt until the sides are equal. Photo 2 Photo 3 This prepares the quilt for stitching on the binding. Stitch on the binding as desired. In our sample, when stitching on the binding the mitered corner technique was used. 7 Instructions ATTENTION When printing this document, any page scaling or page fitting options in your print dialog box must be turned OFF or set to NONE so that your files will print out at their actual size.
