5 Pre-Cut Appliqué Instructions 1. Print out the necessary pages from the PDF of the appliquè pattern(s). 2. Mark the right side of the pattern pieces so you ll know which direction to lay the pattern on the fabric. 3. Lightly spray the wrong side of the pattern pieces with temporary adhesive spray and allow it to set for a few minutes. 4. Place the pattern pieces on the right side of the fabric and carefully cut them out. PHOTO 1 5. Sew the placement stitch on your hooped fabric. PHOTO 2 6. With the paper still stuck to the right side of the appliqué fabric, spray the wrong side of the fabric with temporary spray adhesive. 7. Place the fabric inside the sewing placement stitch so that it matches the stitching line, and then remove the paper pattern. PHOTO 3 8. Sew the tackdown. PHOTO 4 9. Sew the remainder of the design and repeat for any remaining pieces. PHOTO 5 NOTE: The patterns are sized for the designs as they were made. If you resize the design, you will need to resize the pattern the same amount. You can print out the pattern at the normal size then copy it on a copy machine at the changed size. For example, resize the designs to 80%, resize the printed pattern to 80%. TIP: When Printing the patterns, make sure that the Fit to page option is UNCHECKED in the Print Dialog Box. Each design is carefully crafted with multiple innovative hand-stitched styles, the modern appliqué designs are so charming and the digitizing offers superb quality. Some selections include swirly Christmas trees, snowflakes dancing on the wind, blooming poinsettias, extra sweet candies and a few loving hearts for Valentine s day. Supplies: OESD embroidery collection Seasonal Stitchery #12515 ⅓ yd. off-white linen fabric ¼ yd. or 9" x 22" piece cotton batting Embroidery threads Medium weight tear away stabilizer Temporary spray adhesive 1 ⅓ yds. small cord with lip 1 yd. ⅜" cord (hanger) Tassel 9" of ¼" dowel rod Marking pen Cut: Using the pattern, cut out 1 piece of batting and 1 piece off-white linen for lining. Embroider: NOTE: The designs used in our sample are # , # and # The designs can be stitched in one mega or maxi or jumbo hoop or can be multi-hooped. Our design was stitched in a maxi hoop. Using temporary spray adhesive, spray between two layers of tear away stabilizer and adhere to each other and to the wrong side of off-white linen fabric. Hoop the layers. Embroider designs. Remove from hoop and remove stabilizer. Photo 1 After the embroidery is complete, then use the pattern to cut out the embroidered fabric with the embroidery centered. Assembly: Place batting to wrong side of embroidered front. Baste together using ¼" seam allowance. Photo 2 Right sides together, pin and baste cord with lip to embroidered front. NOTE: Tape ends of cord with clear tape and extend the taped ends beyond the edge of the fabric. Do not baste as close as you can to the cord so that the basting stitch doesn t show when turned right side out. Photo 3 Place the tassel at the bottom, and baste in place. Photo 4 Right sides together, pin lining to front over the cord with lip and tassel. Move needle position closer to the cord and stitch as close as possible. Photo 6 Baste top raw edges together. Clean finish top raw edge. Turn down 1" at top edge. Stitch. Photo 7 Using 1 yd. of cord, make a hanger by folding in half and tying a knot a couple of inches down. Be sure the ends are taped. Photo 8 Insert the dowel into the opening. 8 Small Quilt Instructions Make a 12" small quilt using OESD Embroidery Collection Seasonal Stitchery #12515 to hang on a mini metal quilt stand. Choose one of the appliqué designs or word designs for the center and then accent with swirls. There are many different designs to choose from. Make this project in a day. Supplies: OESD embroidery collection Seasonal Stitchery #12515 ½ yd. off-white linen fabric ¼ yd. red fabric (binding) 6" x 6" piece white fabric (appliqué) ½ yd. or 14" x 14" piece cotton batting Embroidery threads Medium weight tear away stabilizer OESD Appliqué Fuse and Stick Temporary spray adhesive Marking pen Curved basting safety pins Mini metal quilt stand Cut: (1) 14" x 14" piece off-white linen fabric (2) 2 ¼" strips red fabric (binding) Embroider: Note: The designs used in our sample are # and # The # is a swirl design that was used four times around the center design. The designs can be stitched in a maxi or jumbo hoop or can be multi-hooped. Our design was stitched in a maxi hoop. OESD Appliqué Fuse and Stick was used for the appliqué design with the white fabric. Follow the manufacturer s directions to prepare the appliqué. Using temporary spray adhesive, spray between two layers of tear away stabilizer and adhere to each other and to the wrong side of off-white linen fabric. Hoop the layers. Embroider designs. Remove from hoop and remove stabilizer. Photo 2 Cut a 13" x 13" piece with the embroidery centered. (quilt top) Assembly: Layer a quilt sandwich, by placing back wrong side up, cotton batting, and the quilt top right side up. Use curved safety pins to baste the layers together. Photo 2 Quilt as desired. Free-motion quilting was the technique used for our sample. Square up the quilt, this is trimming the quilt until the sides are equal. This prepares the quilt for stitching on the binding. Stitch on the binding as desired. For stitching on the binding the mitered corner technique was used. The snowflake design was stitched using a brown for the main snowflake instead of white. The designs can be stitched in the same or different colors. The designs can be stitched in a maxi or jumbo hoop or can be multi-hooped. Our design was stitched in a maxi hoop. OESD Appliqué Fuse and Stick was used for the appliqué design with the brown and off-white linen fabrics. Follow the manufacturer s directions to prepare the appliqué. Using temporary spray adhesive, spray between two layers of tear away stabilizer and adhere to each other and to the wrong side of red fabric. Hoop the layers. Embroider designs. Remove from hoop and remove stabilizer. Cut embroidered piece to 10 x 10 with embroidery centered. (pillow center front) Photo 1 Assembly:: ½" seam allowance Right sides together, stitch each side border piece to either side of the pillow center front. Press seams away. Right sides together, stitch top and bottom borders to the top and bottom of the pillow center front. Press seams away. (Pillow front) Prepare the back piece by folding one long edge on both back pieces under 1" and under 1" again. Topstitch ⅞" from folded edged. The folded edges will be the center of the back. 10 Owl Pillow Instructions Right sides together, pin pillow front and pillow back. Stitch all around the pillow. It will be turned thru the back opening. Trim off corners.
