7 Wall Hanging by Tamara Fox for OESD Fancy Bows Diagram A SUPPLIES OESD Embroidery Collection #12436 Fancy Bows An assortment of fabrics for quilt top 1 yard fabric for quilt back Medium weight tear-away stabilizer Temporary adhesive spray 3 yards of purchased binding or fabric to create your own binding EMBROIDER Refer to Diagram A and embroider the seven chosen embroidery designs using medium weight tear-away stabilizer. Make sure that your fabric is larger than the listed cut size for each square as the embroideries will later be cut down to this size. After embroidery is complete, trim any loose threads or jump stitches. Lay a plush towel over your pressing board. Press each embroidered piece face down with the right side of the embroidery facing the towel. CUT Refer to Diagram A and cut each square (including the two rectangles and two sides that do not contain embroidery) to the correct size, keeping the embroidery centered. One method to cutting these to size and keeping them centered is to make a template by cutting the correct size square out of standard notebook paper. Fold the paper in half and then half again. Open the paper and there will be a fold in both the vertical and horizontal center. Cut a slit along both the vertical and horizontal centers, intersecting in dead center. Fold back the corners of two opposite sides to create a center cross hair. Photo 01 Use the cross hair of the folded center to properly align the paper over your embroidery. 8 HINT: If using this method to create templates label your paper templates to prevent confusion when matching them up with your embroidered fabric later. There is nothing more frustrating than cutting your embroidery to the wrong size! ASSEMBLE Use ½" seam allowance during assembly unless otherwise noted. Referring to Diagram A you will see that the center of this wall hanging can easily be split into three sections: o Top Section A, B and C o Center Section D and E o Bottom Section F, G, H and I Photo 04 Photo 05 Photo 06 Create the top section by stitching piece B to piece C. Press seam open. Stitch piece A to the combined BC piece. Press seam open Set the top section aside. Photo 04 Create the center section by stitching piece D to E. Press seam open. Set the center section aside. Photo 05 Create the bottom section by stitching piece F to G. Press seam open. Stitch piece H to I. Press seam open. Stitch the combined FG piece to the combined HI piece. Press seam open. Photo 07 Set the bottom section aside. Photo 06 Combine the three sections by first stitching the top section to the center section. Press seam open. Photo 07 Stitch the center section to the bottom section. Press seam open. Photo 08 Trim both the left and right sides to straighten if necessary. Stitch the 4" x 25" sides on either side of the center of the wall hanging. Press seams open. Photo 09 Trim all four edges to square and straighten if necessary. FINISH Cut the backing fabric and batting to be at least 2" larger than the pieced quilt front (cut at least 21" x 28"). Using temporary adhesive spray, spray the batting and adhere it to the wrong side of the backing fabric. Spray the batting with temporary adhesive spray and adhere it to the wrong side of the pieced quilt top. This will create a quilters sandwich. Quilt as desired. We simply stitched in the ditch. Trim away the excess backing and batting being sure to straighten and square as needed. Bind the edges using your favorite method. Photo 08 Photo 09
