1 Fabric Coloring Book Bring vibrant creativity to your embroidery with this fabric coloring book! One-color designs stitched on canvas pages make up the book; fabric markers make them easy to customize and color. Project Needs & Notes: - 1/2 yard twill (inner covers and back pocket) - 1/2 yard bottom-weight canvas (for front cover and pages) - 1/2 yard print quilter's cotton (for front cover borders, back cover, and back pocket) - 1/8 yard (total) solid-colored twill (for front cover borders) - Medium-weight cutaway stabilizer - Temporary spray adhesive - Air-erase pen for marking - Double-fold bias tape quilt binding - Fabric glue - Needle and thread for some hand sewing - Chip clips - Fabric markers Designs used in this tutorial include: - M7292, Sewing Mends the Soul - M7265, Happiness is Handmade - M7283, One Stitch at a Time Finished Size: 12 1/2" x 13 1/2" Special Notes: Some markers may bleed onto different fabrics. Test a small piece of the fabric you will be using before embroidering to see how well the markers work on it. Draw a 12 3/4" x 14 1/2"

2 rectangle on the lightweight canvas. Measure and mark 3/4" in along the bottom and top edges of the shape, starting at the upper left corner and the lower left corner. Draw a line connecting the marks -- the area to the right of the line is the embroidered area. A template, or printout of a design, is an excellent tool to help with placement. Print a template of the design from your embroidery software. If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom's TrueSizer is a free program to use. Center the template within the embroidered area. Mark the center point and vertical and horizontal axis lines. Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together, aligning the marks on the hoop with the marks on the fabric.

3 Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design. Move the hoop so that the needle is directly aligned with the center point on the fabric. Embroider the design. When the design has finished, cut out the shape. Leave the stabilizer on the backside of the embroidery to give the fabric extra support. Cut one piece of quilter's cotton to 2 1/2" x 14 1/2". Cut a piece of the solid-colored twill to 1 1/4" x 14 1/2". Align the pieces together, right sides together. Pin in place, and sew a 1/4" seam along the pinned edge only.

4 Press the seam. Fold the raw edge of the solid colored fabric over 1/2" to the wrong side and press. Align the border piece along the left edge of the embroidered cover piece, right sides facing up and with the solid-colored side facing in. Pin in place. Repeat these steps to create the other borders using the measurements below. Top and bottom border: Print fabric /4" x 1 1/2" Solid fabric /4" x 1 1/4" Right border: Print fabric - 1 1/2" x 14 1/2" Solid fabric - 1 1/4" x 14 1/2" After the borders have been assembled, align them on top of the front cover, right sides facing up. Overlap the pieces at each corner. Pin in place. Sew a 1/4" seam along the folded edges of the

5 solid-colored pieces. Lay the finished front cover piece on top of the twill, right sides together. Pin in place and sew a 1/2" seam along the top, bottom, and right sides only; leave the left side open for turning. Turn the fabric right side out, press the seams, and top-stitch a 1/8" seam along the top, bottom, and right sides only. Mark the bottom-weight canvas just as you did for the cover (including the 3/4" margin on the left of the page), using these dimensions: 12 1/4" x 13 1/2". Embroider the pages just as you did for the cover and cut out the shapes. Pair the pages together, right sides together. Pin in place and sew a 1/2" seam along the top, bottom, and right sides only; leave the left side open for turning. Turn the fabric right side out, press the seams, and top-stitch a 1/8" seam along the top, bottom, and right side edges only.

6 Cut one piece of print quilter's cotton and one piece of twill to 12 3/4" x 7 1/2". Align the pieces together, right sides together. Pin in place along the top edge only and sew a 1/2" seam along the pinned edge. Fold the fabric right side out and align the two sides together. Press the seam and top stitch a 1/8" seam along the folded edge. Cut a piece of print quilter's cotton to 12 3/4" x 14 1/2". Align the pocket on top with the print quilter's cotton sides facing out and the bottom edge of the pocket piece aligned with the bottom edge of the back cover piece. Pin in place and sew a 1/4" seam along the sides and bottom of the pocket to tack it in place.

7 Cut a piece of medium-weight cutaway backing and twill to 12 3/4" x 14 1/2". Layer the pieces as follows: cutaway stabilizer on the bottom, then the twill on top, right side facing up, and then the back pocket piece on top, right sides together (wrong side facing up). Pin in place and sew a 1/2" seam along the top, bottom, and right sides only; leave the left side open for turning. Turn the fabric right side out, press the seams, and top-stitch a 1/8" seam along the top, bottom, and right sides. Align the front cover, pages, and back cover together. The open left sides should all be aligned. Clip all the layers together using chip clips or office clips. Using needle and thread, tack all the layers together by sewing them in place in a few spots along the left edge of the book. Then, fold the front cover and pages open, add a line of fabric glue right along the left edges. Press the cover and each of the pages together.

8 Add double-fold bias tape quilt binding around the left edge of the book. Cut the tape leaving about 1" excess at each end. Fold the tape in to the wrong side and using needle and thread, sew the ends and inner edges of the tape in place. This brilliant coloring book is the perfect way to show your creativity! Great for adding a personal touch to machine embroidery.
