1 Dear Santa Mug Rug Set out milk and cookies for Santa (plus a letter filled with your gift list!) with this sweet mug rug. A pocket is the perfect place to slip your letter to North Pole -- perfect for your Christmas Eve celebrations! Project Needs & Notes: - 1/3 yard linen (for pocket) - 1/4 yard faux suede (for borders) - 1/4 yard print quilter's cotton fabric (for front and pocket lining) - 1/4 yard print quilter's cotton fabric (for front) - 1/3 yard sturdy cotton fabric like twill (for back) - Medium-weight cutaway stabilizer - Temporary spray adhesive - Air-erase pen for marking - Needle and thread for some hand sewing Designs featured in this tutorial include: - K6511, Remember the Milk and Cookies Using an air-erase pen, draw a 9" x 7" rectangle on the linen. A template, or printout of a design, is an excellent tool to help with placement. Print a template of the design from your embroidery software. If you do not have embroidery software, Wilcom's TrueSizer is a free program to use. Center the template within the rectangle, leaving 1" of space between the edges of the design

2 and edges of the shape. Mark the center point and vertical and horizontal axis lines. Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together, aligning the marks on the hoop with the marks on the fabric. Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design. Move the hoop so that the needle is directly aligned with the center point on the fabric. Embroider the design.

3 When the design has finished, trim away the excess stabilizer on the backside of the embroidery. Cut the faux suede to 9" x 1". Align the fabric along the top edge of the embroidered piece, right sides together. Pin in place. Sew a 1/4" seam along the top edge only. Press the seam with an iron. Then, for the pocket lining, lay the embroidered front piece on top of the print quilter's cotton, right sides together. Pin in place, and cut around the shape of the embroidered piece. Sew a 1/4" seam along the top edge only. Turn the fabric right side out and press the seam. Top-stitch along the folded edge of the linen.

4 To prepare the front left piece, cut a piece of print cotton to 9" x 11". Align the pocket on top, right sides facing up, with the bottom edge of the pocket aligned with the bottom edge of the front piece. Pin in place. For the front right piece, cut a piece of print cotton to 4" x 11". Align the right piece on top of the left/pocket piece, right sides together, with the right piece aligned with the right side of the left/pocket piece. Pin in place, and sew a 1/4" seam along the pinned edge only. Press the seam and top stitch along the folded edge of the right piece. For the top and bottom border pieces, cut two pieces of fabric to 12 1/2" x 1". Align them on top of the completed front piece along the top and bottom edges, right sides together. Pin in place and sew a 1/4" seam along the pinned edges and press.

5 For the side border pieces, cut two pieces of fabric to 1" x 12". Align them on top of the completed front piece along the side edges, right sides together. Pin in place and sew a 1/4" seam along the pinned edges and press. To prepare the back piece, lay the front piece on top of the twill, right sides together. Pin in place, and cut around the shape of the front piece. Sew a 1/4" seam along the outer edges leaving about 4" open along one side. Turn the fabric right side out and press the seams. Also, turn the fabric of the opening in 1/4" and press. Hand sew the opening closed with needle and thread. Then, top stitch along the inner seams of the borders all the way around the rug.
