6 V.22 bis Liux Softmodem for 73M1x22 MicroDAA User Guide UG_1x22_043 1 Itroductio The Teridia V.22BIS Softmodem is a V.22bis, V.22, V.23, V.21, Bell 212A, 103, ad 202 modem algorithm. It icludes the sigal processig fuctios as well as a AT commad iterpreter. 1.1 Use of this Documet It is assumed that the reader has basic familiarity with microprocessors, firmware ad data commuicatios. Prior experiece with modems is ot assumed but would be useful. This documet presets all the features icluded i the TSC V.22BIS Softmodem i terms of software. 1.2 Laguage ad Termiology To a large extet, telecommuicatios ad, by extesio, data commuicatios, has developed a termiology distict from the rest of the electroics egieerig commuity. The lack of worldwide stadards util recet years has also hampered the adoptio of widely accepted terms. North America, domiated by the earlier ifluece of Bell Telephoe, has developed termiology, which differs from that ow used by the ITU, the idustry group resposible for settig iteratioal stadards. As iteratioal data exchage grows i importace, the ITU ca be expected to grow i ifluece, eve i North America. For that reaso we have chose to use the ITU termiology i most cases. There will be some exceptios to our use of ITU terms. For example, "mark" (oe) ad "space" (zero) are much shorter tha "biary oe" ad "biary zero" ad these have bee used where appropriate. Also, we may use Bell termiology whe discussig Bell specificatios. Origiatig, aswerig ad settig up the various optios are performed by sedig oe or more AT commads to the modem from the DTE. A brief descriptio of the AT commad sytax ad the AT commads supported follows. 2.1 The AT Commad Format Istructios set to the modem are referred as AT commads because they are always preceded by a prefix composed of the two characters AT that are used to get the ATtetio of the modem. Provided that the correct coectios have bee made (refer to the data sheet), the TSC Softmodem will use those two characters to determie the trasmissio rate, the data legth as well as the parity used by the DTE. Most of the AT commads have selectable parameters ad related values. Every AT commad will have the followig format: <AT><Commad>{Argumet}{=}<Eter> AT - Attetio code Commad - A commad cosists of oe letter Argumet - Optioal iformatio that further defies the commad = - Used whe settig a register You may "strig" commads together i oe commad lie as log as the total legth of the commad lie does ot exceed 63 bytes. The attetio code, AT, is oly required at the begiig of the commad lie. If o argumet is provided with a commad that takes a umerical argumet, a argumet of zero is assumed. For example, the followig commads are idetical: ATH<Eter> or ATH0 <Eter> NOTE: Iformatio i "agle" brackets <> must be icluded as part of the commad lie, while iformatio i "curly" braces {} may or may ot be ecessary as part of the commad lie. NOTE: the +++ ad A/ commads are either preceded by AT or followed by <CR>. The TSC Softmodem requires time before it is ready to accept aother commad after respodig with OK. Whe multiple AT commads are used back to back, the user must wait util after the OK<Eter>_ respose from the modem from the previous commad before the modem is ready to take aother commad. This wait time should be a least 10 ms. All commads except D, A, ad O retur a OK. The followig descriptio uses these covetios: All allowed parameters are show. specifies the default value whe applicable. A Aswer Causes the modem to immediately go o-lie (off-hook) i the Aswer mode ad attempt to hadshake regardless of the value of register S0. This commad gives you a method of maually aswerig a icomig phoe call. For restrictios, see also the R commad. Rev

The umber will be dialed with either toes or pulses depedig o how the last umber was dialed. O power up, this commad will default to pulse dialig. (See the ote i DT[...] commad.) The allowable argumets for... differ for pulse ad toe dialig; see the descriptios uder DT[...] ad DP[...]. 0-9 digit Dial Strig Modifiers P R T A-D, *, # are oly allowed durig Toe dialig. Pulse dial the digits that follow. Modem uses aswer mode frequecies after dialig the umber. Allows dialig up a origiate-oly modem. Busy detect is disabled durig reverse dial. Toe dial the digits that follow. ; A ; (semicolo) causes the modem to go back ito the Commad State, allowig you to eter other commads while o-lie. To do this, the semicolo must be the last character i the commad lie., Whe iserted i a dialig strig, a, (comma) causes the modem to pause. The default time for the pause is two secods, ad ca be chaged by modifyig register (commercial "at" symbol) causes the modem to wait up to 30 secods for a 5 secod period of quiet before proceedig. This is ofte used to detect the ed of a prerecorded message. The default wait time is 30 secods, ad ca be chaged by modifyig register S7. Result Codes 7 ad 8 will be reported regardless of which Result Code Set is selected.! A! (exclamatio mark) causes a "hook flash." This simulates hagig up for 1/2 secod ad the recoectig. It is typically used for trasferrig calls. W Causes the modem to wait for a dial toe for a specified legth of time before proceedig. The default is 8 secods, ad ca be chaged by modifyig register S66. S[r]$$$ The S[r]? commad requests the modem to report the curret value of register [r]. These registers are used to set up various operatig parameters of the modem as explaied i Chapter 5. The value reported is i decimal otatio. The S[r]$ commad requests the modem to report the curret value of register [r]. The value reported is i hexadecimal otatio. The S[r]??? commad requests the modem to report the curret value of [r] ad successive registers. The values are reported i decimal otatio. The umber of registers reported correspods to the umber of? (questio marks) give to the modem. For a example: S10??? will report the values stored i the registers S10, S11, S12. The S[r]$$$ commad requests the modem to report the curret value of [r] ad successive registers. The values are reported i hexadecimal otatio. The umber of registers reported correspods to the umber of $ (dollar sigs) give to the modem. For a example: S10$$$ will report the values stored i the registers S10, S11, S12. S[r]=[] S[r]=[] Set S-Register Value r = 0 to 104 = 0 to 255 The S[r]=[] commad allows you to set (modify) the value of ay of register [r] to ew value []. The value [] is etered i decimal otatio. S[r]=.$..$ S[r]+[] S[r]-[] The S[r]=.$..$ commad allows you to set (modify) the value of ay of [r] ad successive registers to the ew values (decimal otatio) or $ (hexadecimal otatio). For a example: S10=$F0.128.$EC.25 will set register S10=F0 (hexadecimal), S11=128 (decimal), S12=EC (hexadecimal), ad S13=15 (decimal). All hexadecimal values must be etered i as a two digit hex value. For example eter $0A istead of $A. The S[r]+[] commad sets bits i [r] S register by ORig the [] value ad the value curretly i the S Register. The Hayes register set has evolved over time to support added features, ad the TSC Softmodem has may features ot foud i other modems. As is true for the AT commads, the Hayes format is loosely followed, but it should ot be assumed that software driver cofiguratios writte for aother modem will work without some modificatios. Closely examie the register set ad assure the commads set to the TSC Softmodem will give the iteded actios. The S-Registers allow you to customize the modem's operatio. For example, you ca use S-Registers to determie how may times the telephoe will rig before the modem aswers, how log the modem will wait for a dial toe before abortig a dialig sequece, how log the modem will pause durig a "pause" commad, ad so o. S-Registers are chaged with the S[r]=[] commad. You ca check your S-Register settigs ay time you are i Commad State. To check a S-Register settig, eter a commad cosistig of the S-Register you wat to check followed by a questio mark.
