You must have at least oe chael programmed to use this scaer. 10 Bads, 29 MHz MHz Sca these frequecy rages with your scaer. (Note: The frequecy coverage is ot totally cotiuous from 29.0 MHz to 512 MHz.) Weather Chaels iformatio radio. 10 Before you ca sca, you must program a frequecy ito each chael you wat to use. The Betty Bearcat Starter Frequecy Guide lists typical frequecies used aroud the U.S. that you may use to program the BC60XLT. If the frequecies listed do ot work i your area, call the 800 umber o the yellow sheet eclosed with the guide. A Uide represetative should be able to provide you with a few sample frequecies. Or, use the eclosed order form to purchase a local frequecy list. Where to Obtai More Iformatio The Bearcat Radio Club ad other similar hobby clubs have publicatios, iformatio o computer bulleti boards, ad eve cotests for the radio ethusiast. Additioal iformatio is also available through your local library. Please remove the Registratio Card from the middle of this guide, complete, ad mail it immediately. 11 Power Istallig Batteries 1. Ope cover. Setup 2. Isert batteries IMPORTANT If you are istallig Alkalie Batteries, set the switch to Reg. Alk BATT. If istallig Nickel-Cadmium Batteries, set the switch to Ni-Cd BATT. WARNING! Do ot mix Alkalie Batteries with Nickel-Cadmium Batteries. Be sure to istall four Batteries of the same type. 3. 12 AC Adapter/Charger Use the icluded AC Adapter/Charger to power the BC60XLT from a AC source. The AC Adapter/ Charger also recharges Nickel-Cadmium Batteries while they are istalled i the scaer. WARNING! Do ot charge Alkalie Batteries i this scaer. Doig so may cause serious damage to the product ad void the warraty. Before attemptig to recharge Batteries, make sure you have istalled four rechargeable Nickel-Cadmium Batteries ad the selector switch is set to Ni-Cd. 16 4. Recheck frequecy. The frequecy appears oe digit at a time i sequece. Repeat these steps to program each chael. You ca program the same frequecy ito two or more chaels, if desired. Chaels with o frequecy programmed are skipped durig scaig. After programmig your scaer, record the frequecies i the table below (or aother coveiet place) so you ca easily reprogram the scaer i case the memory is accidetally erased. 17 How Squelch Works Thik of SQUELCH as a gate. If the gate is set too low (SQUELCH too low), everythig (all oise as well as sigals) gets through. If the gate is set too high (SQUELCH too high), othig gets through. If the gate is set just right (SQUELCH set properly), just the desired sigals get through. 12 Mo Aug 30 15:34:

21 Chael Lockout Chael Lockout lets you skip chaels durig scaig. There are two ways to lock out a chael: Maual Mode Use Maual mode to select the chael you wat to lock out. Note: For chael 10, press 1, Mo Aug 30 15:34:

25 Care ad Maiteace Low Battery Warig Whe the Batteries become weak, you will hear a audible warig. Be sure to replace Alkalie Batteries as soo as possible, or you ca recharge Nickel-Cadmium Batteries while they are istalled i the scaer. Replacig the Batteries See page six. Locatio If strog iterferece or electrical oise is received, relocate the scaer or its atea away from the source of the oise. A higher elevatio, if possible, may provide better receptio. Do ot use the scaer i high-moisture eviromets such as the kitche or bathroom. Avoid placig the uit i direct sulight or ear heatig elemets or vets. Cleaig Discoect the power to the uit before cleaig. Clea the outside of the scaer with a mild deterget. To prevet scratches, do ot use abrasive cleaers or solvets. Be careful ot to rub the LCD widow. Do ot use excessive amouts of water. Repairs Do ot attempt ay repair. The scaer cotais o user serviceable parts. Cotact the Uide Customer Service Ceter or take it to a qualified repair techicia. Proper Care of Your Scaer Use oly the AC Adapter/Charger that came with your scaer. Avoid placig the scaer i direct sulight or ear heatig elemets or vets. 27 Operatig Tips If your BC60XLT is ot performig properly, try the steps listed below. CONDITION Scaer does t tur o. Poor receptio. Scaer does t receive weather chaels. SUGGESTION Rotate the Volume cotrol to the right. Check the Batteries for correct istallatio. Check the power level of the Batteries. Replace or recharge Batteries as ecessary. Check the AC Adapter/Charger or the (optioal) Cigarette Lighter Adapter for a good electrical cotact at the scaer. Make sure there is power at the AC outlet (or the vehicle s cigarette lighter). Check the i-lie fuse o the (optioal) Cigarette Lighter Adapter cord. If blow, replace it with the same type of fuse. Check the atea coectio. Make sure the atea is i a vertical positio. If you re iside a buildig, move the scaer to a widow, a outside wall, or outdoors. Check for sources of iterferece such as computers, microwave oves, or other electrical devices. Move the scaer as ecessary. You may be too far away from the statios usig the frequecies you have programmed. Try aother locatio, or program frequecies for statios closer to your area. Adjust the Squelch settig. It may be too high. I some parts of the coutry, you may ot be able to moitor weather broadcasts, such as i low lyig areas. Move the scaer to a higher locatio. Press S to begi scaig. The scaer may be stopped o a weather frequecy. Press S to begi scaig. Adjust the Squelch settig. It may be too low. All the chaels may be locked out. Tur off Lockout for the chaels you wat to sca. Check the Keylock. Make sure Keylock is off before programmig or lockig out chaels.
