NEWSPRINT-MAGAZINESPECIFICATIONS Camera Ready PDF Specifications PDFs are self-contained files and do not require additional files (photos, logos, etc.) to be sent with them. All PDFs received must meet the PDF X-1/A 2003 Print Standard. All files must have file extensions (.tif,.eps,.pdf,.doc,.jpg,.psd,.ai). Please take file and transfer time into consideration. All color must be built in CMYK. No RGB, Lab color, PMS or extra channels. Please note: Any files that are RGB will need to be converted to CMYK. This will change or potentially change the appearance of the image. For magazines only: If your art has a large area of black we recommend 60% Cyan, 40% Magenta, 40% Yellow, 95% Black. This gives a nice uniform deep (rich) black. For newspapers only: No 4-color black. When using black in color ads, it is preferable to set the values to 0% Cyan, 0% Magenta, 0% Yellow, 100% Black. Avoiding a 4-color/rich black color combination. Total ink coverage: Should not exceed 220%. Logo art: For best possible reproduction logos should be supplied as vector art. Unsharp masking: Sharpening should be applied to image cropped at print size for best visual effect. Preferred Materials High resolution images: All photos must be high resolution (actual size at 180 dpi or above, with 300 dpi preferred). JPEG, TIFF, EPS files are accepted. All images need to be Grayscale or CMYK. Additionally, there should be no tranparencies in the PDF. PDFs failing to meet these requirements, including proper size, cannot be accepted. Fonts: For single color reverse type use 10 point also, 12 point when reversing text out of four color. A sans serif font is recommended, to avoid the text filling in on the press. Color text should also be sans serif. No 4-color black type. All fonts need to be either Post Script and/or Open Type and need to be embedded. Fonts are licensed pieces of software. In most cases we will not install or use a font that does not meet our system requirements, a font that we do not own or that is not part of our library. If a client requires a certain font, please find out what font it is and we will see if we have it. We also can accept MS Word (for copy only), Photoshop, Illustrator ONLY. Rules: Minimum rule weight is 1 point for black on white, 2 points for reverse out of black. 2 points is recommended for any rules made of, or reversing out of, more than one color. Deadlines Reservations are Friday at 12 p.m. prior to publication date and copy Friday by 5 p.m. Proof deadlines are Wednesday at 5 p.m. All camera ready files are due Friday by 5 p.m. Production Charges No production charges will be made for PDF files prepared to exact scheduled size.
