3 (Seam Allowance ¼ ) Five Point Star 1. Using EZ templates, cut all five star sections and five curved segments. Arrange to form design. The Five Point star design is sewn together using Y seams or insertion seams. A ¼ gap is left at the start of the seam - where the sections of the star meet in the middlle and also where the curved segments fit into the star design. 2. Join two star sections and insert one curved segment. 3. Continue working round fitting the sections together in the same way. 4. On completion press the seams open and flat.

This can be done by hand or machine. Sew both sides of the bias binding in place. Join the ends of the bias binding together carefully: Fold over a seam allowance on each end. Butt the folded ends together and sew in place carefully. 8. Turn block to W/S. Trim background material. 9. Press block carefully

Keep drawn shape simple and softly curved. 2. Trace the shape to form complete design. The shape can be traced by folding and refolding the paper and copying the lines from section to section. 3. Cut one 14½ square Cream fabric. Transfer design to R/S of material. (Stick paper pattern on a clear glass surface/window with light underneath or in daylight. Place fabric on top of paper pattern. Trace lines on to fabric. This is an inexpensive way to make homemade light box.) 4. Cut fabric shapes to fit the enclosed spaces. Either make templates from the initial paper pattern or cut the tracing paper and use these shapes to make templates. 5. Tack the fabric shapes in place. 6. Make approx 96 (2.25 metres) of ¼ wide Bias binding. This does not have to be made in one continuous strip as shorter lengths can be used. 7. Pin the beginning of the bias tape where shown in the picture. The raw end gets covered as the design progresses. 8. Follow the design round tacking the bias strip in place as you work. The bias tape goes over and under - if you have to stop due to insufficient length of bias strip - cut end of strip off to match the drawn line at an under junction. Join raw ends together.

6 9. On completion of the tacking, trim both the start and the end of the bias strip to touch. Conceal the join underneath as shown in the photo. 10. Hand or machine stitch both sides of the bias tape. Stop and start stitching at under junctions. 11. Remove all tacking and press well.

(Seam Allowance ¼ ) Kaleidoscope 1. From four fabrics, cut approx 25 long strips.

Suggested width of strips: Two x 1¾ + Two x 2¼

Press seams open and flat. 3. Place 45 triangle on pressed strip. Cut eight triangles. 4. Join triangles together in sets of two.

Sew both halves together. The centre seam junction is bulky. Press seams open and flat.

7 (Seam Allowance ¼ ) Kaleidoscope 1. From four fabrics, cut approx 25 long strips.. The width of these strips can vary. These strips are sewn together to form a 6½ wide band. Suggested width of strips: Two x 1¾ + Two x 2¼ x 25 strips (measurements include seam allowance. 2. To avoid matching seams when sewing design together, join strips in this order: 2¼, 1¾, 2¼, 1¾. Press seams open and flat. 3. Place 45 triangle on pressed strip. Cut eight triangles. 4. Join triangles together in sets of two. 5. Sew two sets together to make one half of the design. Repeat with the other two sets. 6. Sew both halves together. The centre seam junction is bulky. Press seams open and flat. Careful spray starching may help the central junction lie flat - but be careful - do not over spray! A button might be needed to conceal any little deviations in the accuracy of your points. Buttons are brill!!

7. Block should measure 12½ from side to side. Cut 1½ wide strips x length of the sides.
