Abbreviations. WOF = width of the fabric. Are you new to patchwork & quilting? There are many fantastic classes being run at your local patchwork and quilting store. You can also find fantastic step-by-step tutorials on the internet that will help you get started. This pattern is not intended to replace a class. Requirements are based on fabric 115cm (44in) wide unless otherwise stated. Fabric requirements may differ from person to person due to cutting methods. If in doubt it is a good idea to purchase a little extra fabric. Fusible webbing requirements will vary greatly between products and projects; assume you will need a lot and go from there! 1/4in seam allowances are used throughout unless otherwise stated. Pre-washed 100% cotton fabrics are recommended. Press all seams towards the darker fabric or in the direction that creates the least bulk. Please refer to the photo of the project and the quilt diagrams to help with colour choices and layout. I would recommend using an applique mat with all but the most simple applique shapes. Our patterns are proof-read and made by our lovely testers but sometimes mistakes do slip by us. Please let us know if you come across an error so we can correct it. Buttons and beads are NOT suitable for children under three (3) years of age due to them being a choking hazard. Please replace buttons and beads with applique or embroidery. 4 DOTTI What You Will Need 1.3m (1 1/2 yards) of solid light cream fabric for the applique blocks and border 10cm (1/8 yard) of red-on-red print fabric for the Log Cabin blocks 25cm (1/4 yard) of peach & white spot fabric for the Log Cabin blocks 25cm (1/4 yard) of purple floral print fabric for the Log Cabin blocks 30cm of green & white spot fabric for the Log Cabin blocks 70cm (3/4 yard) of red & white spot fabric for the applique 30cm (3/8 yard) of peach small print fabric for the applique 15cm (6in) of purple & white spot fabric for the border 75cm (7/8 yard) of green floral print fabric for the border and binding Lightweight fusible webbing Matching thread to suit your favourite applique stitching method A piece of wadding (batting) measuring at least 58 1/2in square 3m (3 1/4 yards) of coordinating backing fabric General sewing supplies TIP Supplement the fabrics in the requirements list with fabrics from your stash to add visual interest to your quilt. Cutting Instructions 1. From the solid light cream fabric, cut: (6) strips, 4 1/2in x WOF for the border. (1) strip, 9 1/2in x WOF. Crosscut (4) 9 1/2in squares for the appliqué blocks. (1) strip, 14in x WOF. Crosscut (2) 14in squares. Cut each twice diagonally to give (8) side triangles. Trim the remaining strip to measure 7 1/4in. Crosscut (2) 7 1/4in squares. Cut each once diagonally to give (4) corner triangles. 2. From the red-on-red print fabric, cut: (1) strip, 2 3/4in x WOF. Crosscut (9) 2 3/4in squares for the Quarter Log Cabin blocks. 3. From the peach & white spot fabric, cut: (2) strips, 2 3/4in x WOF. Crosscut (9) 2 3/4in squares and (9) 2 3/4in x 5in rectangles for the Quarter Log Cabin blocks. 4. From the purple floral print fabric, cut: (3) strips, 2 3/4in x WOF. Crosscut (9) 2 3/4in x 5in rectangles and (9) 2 3/4in x 7 1/4in rectangles for the Quarter Log Cabin blocks. 5. From the green & white spot fabric, cut: (4) strips 2 3/4in x WOF. Crosscut (9) 2 3/4in x 7 1/4in rectangles and (9) 2 3/4in x 9 1/2in rectangles for the Quarter Log Cabin blocks. 6. From the purple & white spot fabric, cut: (4) strips, 1 1/4in x WOF for the first border. 7. From the green floral print fabric, cut: (5) strips, 2 1/2in x WOF for the second border. (6) strips, 2 1/2in x WOF for the binding. 8. From the backing fabric cut (2) pieces approx. 58 1/2in long. Remove the selvedge. How to Make the Quilt 1. Trace the applique shapes from the template pages onto the paper side of the fusible webbing using a sharp pencil; leave approx. 1/2in between each shape. When you have finished tracing, roughly cut out the individual shapes 1/4in outside the traced lines. You will need to trace (12) flowers plus their centres. 2. Fuse the applique shapes to the wrong side of the fabrics you have chosen for the project following the manufacturer s instructions. Cut the shapes out carefully on the lines when cool to the touch. Set aside.

3. Use Diagram 1 as a guide to make the Quarter Log Cabin block. Start by sewing a 2 3/4in peach & white spot square to a 2 3/4in red-on-red square. Press the seam towards the red square.

Pin and then sew a 2 3/4in x 5in purple log to the right-hand side of the block, and a 2 3/4in x 7 1/4in purple log to the bottom of the block. Press.

Repeat to make (9) Quarter Log Cabin blocks. Diagram 1 4. Use the template and the colour photograph as a guide to centre and fuse a flower to the (4) 9 1/2in light cream background blocks.

I stitched around my shapes using handstitched blanket stitch and two strands of matching thread. 5.

5 3. Use Diagram 1 as a guide to make the Quarter Log Cabin block. Start by sewing a 2 3/4in peach & white spot square to a 2 3/4in red-on-red square. Press the seam towards the red square. Pin and then sew a 2 3/4in x 5in peach & white spot log to the bottom of the unit. The red square is on the left. Press the seams outwards as you sew. Pin and then sew a 2 3/4in x 5in purple log to the right-hand side of the block, and a 2 3/4in x 7 1/4in purple log to the bottom of the block. Press. Pin and then sew a 2 3/4in x 7 1/4in green & white spot log to the right-hand side of the block. Finish by sewing a green & white spot 2 3/4in x 9 1/2in log to the bottom of the block. Press well. Repeat to make (9) Quarter Log Cabin blocks. Diagram 1 4. Use the template and the colour photograph as a guide to centre and fuse a flower to the (4) 9 1/2in light cream background blocks. Fuse them in place when you are happy with their position. Set the remaining flowers aside for use on the border. Stitch around the applique shapes using your favourite method. I stitched around my shapes using handstitched blanket stitch and two strands of matching thread. 5. Use Diagram 2 as a guide to lay out the (9) Quarter Log Cabin blocks and (4) flower blocks on a flat surface. Fill in the edges with the cream side triangles and corner triangles. 6. Use Diagram 2 as a guide to pin and then sew the (5) diagonal rows of block together. Press the seams towards the light cream fabric. 7. Pin and then sew the rows together, carefully matching the seams. Press the seams in one direction. Pin and then sew the corner triangles to the quilt to finish. Press the seams outwards. Diagram 2

8. Measure the with of the quilt through the centre and cut (2) 1 1/4in purple & white spot strips to this length. Pin and then sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt.

6 8. Measure the with of the quilt through the centre and cut (2) 1 1/4in purple & white spot strips to this length. Pin and then sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press the seams outwards throughout. Measure the length of the quilt through the centre and cut (2) 1 1/4in purple & white spot strips to this length. Pin and then sew them to the left and right-hand sides of the quilt. Press. 9. Sew the (5) 2 1/2in green floral print strips together end to end using diagonal seams. Trim the seams to 1/4in and press them open. 10. Measure the width of the quilt through the centre and cut (2) strips to this length. Pin and then sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press. Measure the length of the quilt through the centre and cut (2) strips to this length. Pin and then sew them to the left and right-hand sides of the quilt. Press. 11. Sew the (6) 4 1/2in light cream strips together end to end using diagonal seams. Trim the seams to 1/4in and press them open. 12. Measure the width of the quilt through the centre and cut (2) strips to this length. Pin and then sew them to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press. Measure the length of the quilt through the centre and cut (2) strips to this length. Pin and then sew them to the left and right-hand sides of the quilt. Press. 13. Use the photograph as a guide to fuse the remaining (8) flowers to the side triangles, overlapping the borders where necessary. Stitch around the flowers as before. Place the applique shapes at least 3/8in in from the raw edge of the border so they don t get covered by the binding. 14. Sew the (2) pieces of backing fabric together along the long edges, then trim to make a piece measuring approx. 58 1/2in square. 15. Layer the backing, wadding (batting) and quilt top, then baste them together using your favourite method. Start quilting from the centre and work your way out to the edges. 16. Sew the (6) green floral print binding strips together using diagonal seams. Trim the seams to 1/4in and press them open. Fold the binding strip in half lengthwise, wrong sides facing, and press well. Bind, label and date your quilt to finish.

Make sure that your printer is set to print at 100% with no scaling or cropping. Some templates may be divided into two or more sections and will need to be joined to make the complete template. Simply match the shapes along the dashed or dotted lines, then use adhesive tape to stick them together. Occasionally a shape will distort a teeny bit in the printing process, simply adjust where necessary.
