2 tips continued... Thread Perle cotton comes in several sizes. The #5 size is thicker and readily available in a variety of colors. The resulting stitches are bigger and more dramatic. The #8 and #12 sizes can be easier to sew with because they are finer. Embroidery floss gives a different look and feel; use all six strands to get the best effect. Experiment to see what you like and what works best for your project. Needle A #5 hand embroidery needle is recommended. Again, experiment with needles to find one with a large enough eye to fit the thread, and slim enough to go through the layers easily. Quilting Use about 18" (45.72cm) of thread at one time. Tie a knot at the end of the thread and pop it through the layers from the back. Take even running stitches through all layers, about ¼" (6.35mm) apart, one or two at a time. When you come to the end of the thread, tie a knot and pop it back between the layers. Overlap ends, trim any excess and finish sewing the binding. Fold binding over to back and hand stitch. Finished Care Instructions Machine wash in cold water, gentle cycle. Tip: Before drying, check for fabric dyes that may have run. If fabric dyes run, rewash and rinse using Shout Color Catcher. Lay flat to dry or tumble dry low. page 5
