The next set of borders for this quilt will be revealed in the next Classroom - hence the mystery! Sewing machine Rotary Cutter 28/45/60 mm Cutting Mat 17 x 23 Acrylic Ruler x 6.5 Acrylic Square of some description 6 /9.5 /12.5 Black and White Quilt: EZ Drunkards Path and Five Point Star EZ Tall Triangle Marti Mitchell Is it Square (very useful for accurately squaring blocks) Pink and Blue Quilt: Petal Pattern Acrylic Template 30 degree Acrylic Template EZ Drunkards Path and Five Point Star Bright Quilt: Petal Pattern Template 6.5 acrylic square Eazy Peazy Plus Two DVD (for those who wish to turn the design into a small quilt - machine quilting, binding covered on the DVD) Marking pens and pencils or Chaco marker Colour & Tone Guide (great for ascertaining colour values and selecting light/dark and medium plus checking if the colour selection is compatible) Clover mini iron Threads to match fabrics Fabric Products To make the quilt centres shown - Five or six Fat quarters are required but if you wish to add more borders then purchase at least two of the Fat Quarter packs. Six Fat Quarters B/W bicycles, Six Fat Quarters Brights, Six Fat Quarters Pastel Patchwork Pink 14 square light weight interfacing or similar for use with Petal Pattern Template

Black and White Quilt Use ¼ S/A 1. Cut one Black and one White 4½ x 10 approx strip.

3 Black and White Quilt Use ¼ S/A 1. Cut one Black and one White 4½ x 10 approx strip. Fold each fabric strip in half R/S together - mirror images must be cut or the pieces don t fit. Cut one set to start. 2. Sew one Black and one White triangle together. Carefully press seam open and flat. Repeat with remaining triangles making two rectangles. 3. Cut one 4½ White square and one 3 Black Square. Draw a diagonal line on W/S of Black square. Place Black square R/S down on R/S White Square. Sew along drawn line. Trim excess fabric from seam. 4. Cut one 1 7 / 8 Black square. 5, Arrange the pieces as shown. Sew one rectangle to one side. Sew 1 7 / 8 Black square to end of one rectangle first before joining this strip to the other section. Press seams open and flat. 6. Cut one 6 x 12 approx Black and White strip. Follow Stages 1-2 making two more rectangles. Check length measurement of both rectangles - trim to fit sides of block. 7. Cut one 2 3 / 8 Black square. 8. Follow Stage 5 and stitch both rectangles and 2 3 / 8 square to the correct sides of the block! 9. Make one last set of rectangles: Cut one 7 ½ x 14 approx Black and White strip. Cut one 2 7 / 8 square. Attach to correct sides of block.

4 10. Make three more sections the same. 11. Arrange all four sections in the desired pattern and stitch together. The completed block should measure 19¾ square. There is great potential for an interesting quilt design using this block. Drunkards Path Border 1. Using the acrylic template, cut sixteen sections of both shapes. 2. Take one L shape and one quarter circle. Fold in half and make small nick along centre fold. 3. Pin the L shaped section to the quarter circle - match the centre, pin each end - keep fabrics edges flush. Add more pins if required. 4. Sew round arc using ¼ S/A. Press seams towards the L section.

5. Make sixteen sections in total. 6. Sew two sections together.

Sew the last Drunkards Path sections to either end of the two remaining strips. 9. Sew to opposite sides. Pink and Blue Quilt 1. Cut one 17½ square in White. 2, Cut eight petals. 3. Lay the completed design on R/S down on interfacing - sew round the outer edge. Trim excess interfacing. Slit interfacing and turn design R/ S out through the slit. Press well.

Follow Stages Cut four 6½ white squares (necessary to use another Fat Quarter from a second pack). 7. Cut 6 strip from Blue and Yellow. Use the 30 degree template. From this strip cut eight Blue and four Yellow sections. 8. Fold one section in half. Sew across the straight end. Flatten into kite shape. Turn R/S out and press. 9. Join three sections together. Press seams open and flat. 10. Place on 6½ square. Pin carefully. Sew round the outside edge - use a small hand or machine appliqué stitch. 11. Sew two Drunkards Path sections together. Cut two 6½ x 3 strips. Sew one strip to either end. Repeat with other Drunkards Path sections and make three more. 12. Attach these strips to opposite sides. 13. Stitch corner sections to the end of the remaining pieces and sew in place.

Sew the completed Petal Pattern design to Orange Square. 4. Cut four 2 x 17½ Green strips and four 5 x 17½ Turquoise strips.

7 Bright Quilt If you are just beginning patchwork then this is the easiest option. 1. Cut one 17½ Orange square. 2. Cut eight petals - four blue and four green. 5. Cut four 6½ Red Squares. 3. Follow Stages 3-4 Pink and Blue Quilt. Sew the completed Petal Pattern design to Orange Square. 4. Cut four 2 x 17½ Green strips and four 5 x 17½ Turquoise strips.
