March is also a month full of exciting events at Threads of Tradition. Our early Spring Quilting Retreat is scheduled for March 6-8 when eighty six enthusiastic quilters will be stitching the days and nights away at the Sauder Heritage Inn. Retreats are always a time of fun, fellowship and productivity; by the end of the weekend the sewing rooms are awash with color and design showcasing a quilt show of finished projects. While this event is already full, set your calendar alerts for March 20th the first day you can register for the Fall Quilting Retreats to be held September 29- October 1 and October 2-4, 2015 and plan to join us for one or both of those fun-filled events.

On March all seven shops participating in the Shop Hop will be open extended hours from 9 am 7 pm each day. Each shop is currently or will very soon be displaying a sample of the free pattern each shop hopper will receive in that shop, sewn with the special collection of Shop Hop Batik Fat Quarters. Kim Diehl Simple Whatnots Due to demand for these darling little quilts, we have cut more kits for the January and February Simple Whatnots quilts. That means that we still have a limited supply of each month available, but when these are gone, that s it, so get yours while the supply lasts! New this year, Donna L Kooistra, AQS Certified Quilt Appraiser and member of the Professional Association of Appraisers of Quilted Textiles will be available to appraise newly constructed quilts, antique, traditional, and nontraditional quilts for insurance replacement value, fair market value, and donation value. Quilt appraisals will be done at the Sauder Village Quilt Show in Founder s Hall by appointment only on Thursday, April 30, and Friday, May 1, from 10:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Once we receive your quilt registration, you will be contacted to set up an appointment time. We are also still accepting quilts for the exhibit in twenty different categories, so if you haven t registered to submit your best recent work in the show, please do so today! Also, now is the time to be designing and stitching your Winds of Change Challenge entry. We still have lots of great Peppered Cotton colors in stock, just waiting to blend perfectly into your unique challenge quilt!

Fabulous Fabric While the staff and volunteers of Threads of Tradition are very busy planning demonstrations, cutting and packaging quilt kits and other items to be featured at the quilt show, other exciting new fabrics and products continue to arrive in the shop almost daily. Fabrics ordered at Quilt Market are arriving with lots of wonderful new prints and textures for spring sewing. Easter is the first Sunday in April this year and these barnyard babies fabrics are perfect Easter prints, signifying the beauty and joy of new life. Choose from bunnies, chicks, lambs or piglets, or combine them with a border print featuring all four! These spring prints are darling for Easter baskets or for a fresh nursery theme. We ve sold bolts and bolts of Elizabeth Studios Beautiful Birds panel that, when sewn together, creates a large tree with variety of songbirds in its branches. We still have that panel in stock, along with the newest version called Housing Boom. It features the same, sew-together tree, but each part of the panel includes a different style of birdhouse. These two panels would look great as a pair of wall hangings or, for a different look, alternate birdhouse and birds in every other block of two distinctly different but compatible wall hangings. Judy Niemeyer is a household name known for her exquisite paper pieced quilt designs. She, and her daughter

Cotton + Steel is a group of five young designers who each design their own line with the goal of having all the fabrics play well together. Fabrics from their latest lines also mix and match with previous lines. In addition to quilting weight cottons, we have also included some of Cotton + Steel s canvas fabrics including one Sparkle Canvas.

The name Violette or Violet comes from the region she visited where they harvest the beautiful violets to craft handmade soaps, pastilles and fragrance.
