January 24 is Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day, so we will have some fun demos and some special sale items. It is mostly applique, but there are a few pieced blocks. The quilt has flowers, stars, birds, kitties and more. Each month you will purchase a fabric and pattern kit and come to class to work on your block. You may use any style of applique that you prefer. This block of the month is also available for pick up or shipping if you do not want to attend class. You will not want to miss out on this great quilt! All levels are welcome! 2 Beginning Hand Quilting When you think of hand quilting do you ever think, Oh, I could never do that. Well I m here to tell you that you can. It s much easier than machine quilting (oh yes it is!) and much more relaxing. You can do it anywhere with a quilting hoop, needle, thread and a thimble. The class will include how to baste your quilt together, what markers to use and why, how to knot and hide your thread, but most important, you will learn the rocking method of hand quilting. In no time at all you will be doing the time-honored tradition of hand quilting. We will make projects that are mostly machine pieced, small and relatively easy to make using charm packs. Each small quilt presents new ideas and techniques that will increase your quilting skills. Mixing felted wool fabrics, we will create a unique piece of jewelry. This ecological jewelrymaking trend is currently sweeping the country and simply fun and fabulous to make. Express your own style and learn this special technique in a hands-on, do-it-yourself workshop. Wednesday, Feb. 13 $30.00 plus materials fee Finishing School This class will cover the 3 B s: Borders, Batting and Binding. This is a lecture class where you will learn techniques for finishing your quilt tops. You will learn how to measure for cutting your borders, how to miter your border corners, how to sandwich the quilt and how to add the double mitered binding, and last but definitely not least, what to put on your label and how to put it on. You may bring a project that you have questions about. Wednesday, Feb :30 am to 2:30 pm OR Wednesday, April 10 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm $20.00 Foundations of Quilting This is a three-week course that will give you the basic techniques of quilting you need to become a bona fide quilter. You will learn how to accurately use a rotary cutter with the mat and ruler, how to sew an accurate ¼ seam, how to align fabric so that your quilt will hang straight, the correct way to iron and (sadly) how to use the seam ripper (the unsewer). You will be making a very easy table runner that will demonstrate how effective these techniques are. Once you take this Foundations class, you will be eligible to join our Beginner Club and continue to learn great quilting techniques. This quilt celebrates the patriotic spirit in the United States. The rich tones and classic motifs of the fabric will be appreciated and enjoyed by all. This seven-month program is from January 2013 to July Throughout this program you will make twelve 12 blocks and thirty-six 4 blocks. The BOM includes the fabrics and pattern needed to complete the 88 x 88 quilt top and binding. Backing is sold separately. You may join this as a class or sign up for kits only. By signing up you are committing to purchase all seven kits. Kits not picked up within seven days of class will be automatically charge to your credit card and mailed to you. 4 Flower Party You will learn an easy, step-by-step technique to make adorable 3-D flowers. You won t need special rulers or templates! You will have a number of options to attach the flowers and buds to the quilt blocks. This is a great quilt to use all those wonderful fat quarters you have been collecting! In this class students will learn this easy and extremely accurate hand-piecing technique to make a table runner. The base table runner will need to be made before you attend class. Get help and/or advice on quilting projects in relation to fabric selection, color, pattern, techniques, assembly, size, finishing or whatever is needed to help you complete a quilting project. By Appointment $20.00 per session Pinwheel Plus Learn to paper piece and leave class with a cute wall hanging. This paper pieced project looks complicated, but it is really the same block repeated. This is a great class for those quilters who have never tried or avoided paper piecing because it looks too hard. It is easy and fun! It is also a great class for those who enjoy this technique. March 14, April 11 String Theory Forget what the scientific community has to say, Diane has her own string theory. Grab all your leftover strips of fabric, any width or length, add a few small leftover scraps and some background fabric, and get ready to have fun. Diane will demonstrate 6 different techniques and you will make a sample block for each one. At the end of the two sessions you will have many new ideas for using your leftovers. These are great projects for gifts (get those birthday and Christmas projects done early), practice you quilting skills and have a great time with other quilters. 8 Class Policy: Pre- registration is required for all classes. Once payment has been received, you are considered enrolled and will receive a supply list. Cancellation: Cancellations are accepted up to seven days in advance of the class for a store credit. If Fabric Garden cancels a class, you may take a store credit or a refund. Block of the Month Programs: When you sign up for a Block of the Month, you are making a commitment to purchase ALL of the kits for that class.
