4 Education Sara Neal /Open There is still plenty of time to sign up for these great classes! May 11 We will be making our own wilt-proof May flowers with Phyllis Barton. She will teach us the Dresden Plate pattern in a colorful wall hanging. Once learned, this pattern adapts beautifully to any size from a king sized quilt to a placemat. Another great skill building class! Meets at Hobby Lobby, cost is just $5. May 29 Sheila Arnold will travel to Lake Havasu so we can learn this great variation of Drunkard s Path. This template-based design is easily completed in any size and will showcase those great prints you already have stashed away! May 30 Sheila Arnold rounds out the weekend with a fresh modern design. Another templatebased design that stitches up quickly once you know the secret! Come make a fresh quilt for someone special. Due to family matters, it is necessary for 1st VP-Education Sara Neal to step down. This is really sad news, as she was off to such a great start. There are no classes scheduled for June, but there will be plenty more to come once this position is filled. Won t you please consider stepping forward to assume these duties? You ll have lots of help! Please call Catherine Stephen or Sherri Ashford if you would like to hear more about this open position. 4

6 Library - Check out Books Sarah McNary The Torn Page...Library News The Havasu Stitchers Library is located at the Quality Inn, 271 S. Lake Havasu Avenue, LHC Patterns for Sale ($1) Books for Sale ($.50) LOADS of Magazines for Sale ($.25 or 5 for $1) Library Loans are 1 month; keep something 2 months and you'll be asked to share your enthusiasm for the item with a 20 second blurb; keep something 3 months and we'll ask you to do a short demo at the meeting (we know you're an expert after 3 months). Online catalog of the collection coming soon! PUPPY PILLOWS Hi Stitchers, Thank you for your response to making a special place in your sewing room for the puppy pillow scraps. This is a great way to get more pillows for the Humane Society. I would like to just list the information again for those that did not get to the meeting. l. Set aside a clean container (box, wastebasket, whatever container) that fits near your cutting table or sewing machine. Place a clean pillowcase inside the container with the top folded over the outside. As you get scraps of clean fabric, place it in the pillowcase. Once the pillowcase is half full or more, pull it out and sew the top shut. It doesn't have to be fancy. Please no batting, pins, paper, or sharp objects. Bring the completed pillow to the next meeting and i will collect them and take them to the Humane Society. 2. The size of the scraps can be 5 inch square or smaller. They fluff up nice and make for a warm spot for the cats and dogs. 3. You can use your judgment as to how full you fill your case. The fuller the bag, the fluffier and softer the bed. We do like to tell the Humane Society that the pillows are washable so keep that in mind when stuffing the cases. A washer won't take too heavy of a pillow. 4. I want to thank you in advance for helping the animals have a nice fluffy bed each night. This project also helps us keep our sewing rooms clean and tidy. It also helps to keep the fabric scraps out of the landfill a little longer. Karm Webert and all the Puppy/Kittie Pillow Crew 6
