1 IEC 2010 Paper Doll Color Chart for Marshall & Toys This Paper Doll Collection has embroidery designs that will fit embroidery machines with 5x7- or 4x4-inch hoop sizes. Embroidery designs in the 5x7" sizes have been divided into separate file parts for the 4x4" hoop users. Refer to the Notes section below to read about "Divided" and "Split" Files. Paper Doll Stitching Recommendations When embroidering the paper dolls and clothing onto fabric rather than as stand-alone embroideries, hoop the fabric with two layers of stabilizer. Make sure the stabilizer is smooth. To hold the layers together firmly, use a temporary embroidery spray between each sheet of the stabilizers and fabric. When embroidering the paper dolls and clothes as stand-alone, hoop a tear-away, pressure sensitive sticky- type stabilizer. Cut a piece of Stitch N Shape or Timtex large enough to embroider the design on. ( Stitch N Shape and Timtex are thick interfacings used as stiffeners in hat brims, purses and fabric bowls.) Press the Stitch N Shape or Timtex onto the hooped stabilizer. Embroider the paper dolls. Remove them from the hoop and tear away the pressure sensitive stabilizer. Apply a thin bead of a fray stop around the edges of the dolls. Let dry. Then carefully cut out the dolls with sharp scissors such as appliqué scissors. As an optional method, the dolls and accessories could also be embroidered onto a heavy felt fabric using the same stabilizing technique mentioned for the "Stitch N Shape" and "Timtex" method. Some hats and bows have a narrow slit embroidered in them so they will fit on the doll heads. After embroidering, apply a narrow bead of a fray stop to the slit edges and let it dry. Cut the slit open carefully as you would cut open a buttonhole. Optional: After cutting out the paper dolls, a fusible interfacing may be applied to the dolls back to cover the stitching. There are several products on the market to attach the clothing to the dolls. 404 Spray and Fix by OESD, and Aleene s Tack-It Over and Over are both products that you apply to the back and they become like stickers. Follow the manufacturer s directions for use. If this is the case, we recommend that you use the DST design format and follow the thread color changes listed above. Divided designs: Divided 4x4" files will have parts with the same identical filename as a 5x7" design, but will have alphabetic letters (A, B, C, etc.) added immediately to the end of the filename, such as "filenamea", filenameb", "filenamec". Registration marks within the part design files have also been added to assist in aligning the parts during the embroidery process. Each 4x4" file part should be hooped, aligned, and sewn in the correct alphabetical sequence order (A through C, where applicable). Remove registration marks when a full design is complete. Split designs: When some design formats exceed their maximum number of thread changes or stitches allowed per design, the design will be "split" into several files. Split design files will have identical filenames as the original file but will have an added dash (-) or underscore bar (_) followed by an alphabetic suffixes added for each split part, such as "filename-a", "filename-b", "filename-c" or "filename_a", "filename_b", "filename_c". Embroider each design file in alphabetic order, overlaying each design in the same unadjusted hooping until the design is complete.
