~MY PRIMITIVE~ EASTER SUNDAY BUNNY 2014 MY PRIMITIVE SALTBOX THANK YOU FOR PURCHASING MY PATTERN. PLEASE READ ALL DIRECTIONS BEFORE BEGINNING. SOME ITEMS AT CUT ON LINE, SOME ARE SEW ON THE LINE. THIS WILL HELP ELIMINATE MISTAKES LATER ON. TRACE OR PRINT OUT YOUR PATTERN PIECES TO CARD STOCK. CUT OUT. FINISHED BUNNY IS APPROX. 22 INCHES LONG FROM TIP OR EARS TO BOTTOM OF FEET. SEWING THE BUNNY FOR ANYONE WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHAT WARM AND NATURAL IS, IT IS A COTTON QUILT BATTING, THERE ARE A FEW DIFFERENT KINDS YOU CAN FIND. OR YOU CAN USE A DIFFERENT CHOICE FABRIC, LIKE OSNABURG, OR THIN PLUSH FELT FUR. TRACE THE BUNNY BODY ONTO A DOUBLE LAYER OF WARM AND NATURAL BATTING. SEW ON THE TRACE LINE, LEAVING OPEN AT THE TOP WHERE INDICATED. CUT OUT. NEXT YOU NEED TO BOX THE 2 CORNERS AT THE BOTTOM. SEE DIAGRAM. PULL THE FRONT LAYER AWAY FROM THE BACK LAYER AT THE BOTTOM CORNER, LINE UP THE SIDE SEAM WITH THE BOTTOM SEAM TO FORM A POINT. SEW OVER THIS POINT, IN ABOUT ONE INCH FROM THE POINT EDGE. DO OTHER SIDE ALSO, THIS WILL MAKE YOUR BOTTOM SQUARE WHEN TURNED. TURN BODY RIGHT SIDE OUT. FILL BOTTOM WITH RICE. AT LEAST 1 CUP OR MORE TO WEIGH IT DOWN. STUFF THE REST OF THE BODY UP TO THE NECK. WITH A HEAVY THREAD AND NEEDLE, DO A RUNNING STITCH AROUND THE NECK OPENING ABOUT 1/4 INCH FROM EDGE. PULL TIGHT TO CLOSE. TAKE A FEW EXTRA STITCHES TO SECURE IN PLACE AND KNOT OFF. TRACE THE HEAD PIECE ONTO A DOUBLE LAYER OF THE SAME FABRIC. CUT OUT ON THE TRACE LINE. REFER TO PATTERN PIECE AND SEW FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE NECK UP TO THE TIP OF THE NOSE ONLY. NOW CUT OUT GUSSET, YOU ONLY NEED ONE. OPEN THE HEAD UP AT THE SEAM AND PIN THE DOT ON THE GUSSET TO THE SEAM WITH RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER. NOW PIN TO THE SIDES TO FIT IN PLACE. PIN ONE SIDE AT A TIME. CAREFULLY SEW IN PLACE MAKING SURE TO PIVOT AND TURN AT CURVES ALONG THE HEAD. TURN RIGHT SIDE OUT. TRIM UP BOTTOM TO EVEN OUT IF YOU HAVE ANY EXCESS. STUFF FIRMLY. DO A RUNNING STITCH AROUND OPENING AGAIN AND PULL TO CLOSE JUST LIKE THE BODY. PLACE HEAD ON TOP OF THE BODY AND POSITION WHERE YOU WANT IT. PIN IN PLACE. NOW SEW AROUND ATTACHING HEAD TO THE BODY, TAKE SMALL STITCHES BETWEEN THE BODY AND HEAD, GO AROUND A FEW TIMES TO HOLD SECURE. KNOT OFF. TRACE YOUR EARS ONTO A DOUBLE LAYER OF YOUR MATERIAL. TRACE 2. SEW ON TRACE LINE, LEAVING TOP OPEN WHERE INDICATED.

TURN EARS RIGHT SIDE OUT AND PUSH SEAMS OUT, PRESS FLAT. TAKE YOUR THREAD AND NEEDLE AND DO A RUNNING STITCH ALONG THE BOTTOM OF THE EAR. GOING THROUGH BOTH LAYERS. PULL TO GATHER SLIGHTLY TO ABOUT 3/4 INCH. STITCH TO HOLD. NOW PLACE EAR INTO POSITION ON HEAD. SEE DIAGRAM, IT SHOULD BE HALF ON THE HEAD SIDE AND HALF ON THE GUSSET, WITH THE SEAM IN THE MIDDLE, WHIP STITCH ONTO HEAD. I DO THE FRONT LAYER OF THE EAR FIRST, THEN GO TO THE BACK LAYER AND WHIP STITCH IN PLACE, SO I CAN PULL THE EAR UP AS I SEW. THE PAINT WILL STIFFEN IT UP LATER. NEXT TRACE YOUR 2 ARMS AND 2 LEGS ON A DOUBLE LAYER OF FABRIC. SEW ON TRACE LINE, LEAVING OPEN WHERE INDICATED. CUT OUT AND TURN. LIGHTLY STUFF EACH UP TO STUFF LINE ON PATTERN. TAKE THE ARMS AT THE TOP AND LINE UP THE SEAMS (SEAM TO SEAM) IN THE MIDDLE SO THE THUMBS ARE FACING INWARD ON EACH SIDE. WHIP STITCH INTO PLACE WHERE INDICATED ON PATTERN. LINE UP SEAMS ON LEGS THE SAME WAY, SO THE TOES ARE FACING UP. TAKE YOUR THREAD AND NEEDLE AND DO A RUNNING STITCH ALONG THE TOP OF THE OPENING LIKE YOU DID THE EAR. PULL TO GATHER SLIGHTLY. POSITION ON BOTTOM SEAM OF THE BODY, PULL OR LOOSEN GATHER TO FILL ONLY HALF OF THE SPACE, BOTH LEGS SHOULD MEET IN THE MIDDLE. WHIP STITCH INTO PLACE. SET YOUR BUNNY ASIDE FOR NOW. SEW THE DRESS TAKE A PIECE OF COTTON PRINT FOR THE DRESS ABOUT 10 X 10. FOLD IN HALF WITH PRINT ON INSIDE, THEN FOLD AGAIN SO IT IS ABOUT 5X5. IT SHOULD BE 4 LAYERS THICK WITH FOLDS ON 2 SIDES. PLACE THE BODICE PATTERN PIECE ON THE SQUARE, LINING UP ON FOLDS WHERE INDICATED. TRACE PATTERN PIECE ON. CUT OUT. PRESS CENTER OF BODICE TO MARK THE CENTER FOR LATER. OPEN UP SO IT IS 2 LAYERS NOW, SEW THE SIDE SEAMS WHERE INDICATED. TAKE YOUR SCISSORS AND ON THE CENTER FOLD YOU MARKED, CUT A STRAIGHT LINE FROM BOTTOM TO TOP TO OPEN UP. THIS WILL BE THE BACK. ONLY CUT ONE LAYER. TURN RIGHT SIDE OUT. NOW TAKE A PIECE OF THE SAME FABRIC 32 X 6 INCHES. I LIKE TO RIP MINE TO KEEP THE EDGES FRAYED AND EVEN. FOLD THIS PIECE IN HALF TO MARK THE CENTER (16INCH MARK) PRESS. NOW GATHER ALONG ONE OF THE LONG SIDES. PULL GATHER TO 16 INCHES. WITH RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER, LINE UP GATHERED PIECE WITH THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE BODICE. LINE UP BOTH PRESSED CENTER MARKS FIRST. PULL GATHERS TO FIT IN PLACE FROM EDGE TO EDGE. SEW IN PLACE. DO NOT TURN YET. TAKE THE BACK OF YOUR DRESS OPENING AND LINE UP RAW EDGES. SEW UP THE BACK OF THE DRESS TO CLOSE. SEW FROM THE BOTTOM UP, STOPPING SHORT OF THE NECK ABOUT 2 INCHES. THIS IS SO IT WILL FIT OVER THE HEAD. TURN DRESS RIGHT SIDE OUT. THERE ARE NO SLEEVES SINCE THE SWEATER WILL COVER THE ARMS. IF YOU WANT SLEEVES, USE THE SWEATER PATTERN FOR YOUR DRESS TOP AND ADD THE BOTTOM SAME AS THIS.

SEW THE SWEATER FOR THE SWEATER, YOU WILL WANT AN OLD LIGHT WEIGHT SWEATER YOU CAN CUT UP. THRIFT SHOPS ARE GOOD PLACES TO FIND THESE CHEAP, PLUS YOU GET A GOOD SELECTION. IF YOU DON T HAVE ONE NEAR BY, LOOK ON EBAY FOR A USED ONE. A CHILDS ONE WOULD PROBABLY BE LESS HEAVY AND SOFTER. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND SEVERAL FOR A BUCK OR SO. YOU WILL NEED A PIECE 9X10 (OR 2-9 X 5 AND SEW TOGETHER AT SHOULDER AREA) AND 2 PIECES 5 ½ X 5 ½ FOR THE SLEEVES) HEM YOUR SLEEVE PIECES ON THE END, AND THE BOTTOM PART OF THE SWEATER BEFORE SEWING TOGETHER THE SIDES. OR CUT YOUR PIECES OUT, SO YOU ARE USING THE FINISHED EDGES OF THE SWEATER. )IE, CUT THE SLEEVES FROM THE END OF THE SWEATER SLEEVES.)SEE THE PICTURE OF MY SWEATER EDGES. OK, TAKE YOUR PIECE THAT IS 9 X 10 AND FOLD IN HALF (GOOD SIDE ON THE INSIDE) FOLD OVER IN HALF AGAIN TO MAKE A 4 LAYER SQUARE WITH 2 FOLDED SIDES, JUST LIKE THE BODICE. TRACE YOU PATTERN PIECE, OR TAPE ON AND CUT AROUND. TRY NOT TO STRETCH TO MUCH AS YOU CUT. AFTER YOU CUT IT OUT. LAY IT OPEN, AND CUT THE ONE LAYER OPEN JUST LIKE THE BODICE, ONLY THIS WILL BE YOUR FRONT OPENING. LAY OUT IN SINGLE LAYER, WITH RIGHT SIDE UP. SEE DIAGRAM. NOW PLACE YOUR ONE SLEEVE ON THE SIDE, WITH RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER. IT WILL BE LAYING AGAINST THE SWEATER, NOT OUT LIKE THE DIAGRAM. LINE UP CENTER OF SLEEVE WITH CENTER OF THE SHOULDER AREA. STITCH ACROSS TO ATTACH. THEN LAY OUT. (LIKE THE DIAGRAM) DO THE SAME TO THE OTHER SIDE. NOW FOLD YOUR SWEATER OVER, TO LINE UP ND SLEEVES AND SIDES, SEE 2 PICTURE. RIGHT SIDES ON THE INSIDE. AND SEW UP EACH SIDE, PIVOT AT UNDER ARM, AND SEW UP SLEEVE BOTTOM. DO BOTH SIDES. TURN RIGHT SIDE OUT. TIP.- TRY NOT TO STRETCH WHILE YOU SEW. SEW WITH THE BIGGEST STITCHES YOU HAVE TO BASTE, THEN SEW OVER AGAIN WITH SLIGHTLY SMALLER STITCHES. SEW LITTLE EMBROIDERED FLOWERS ON THE SWEATER IF YOU WOULD LIKE. DO A FRENCH KNOT AND GO AROUND WITH PETALS AS IN DIAGRAM. BRING YOUR NEEDLE UP THROUGH THE FABRIC AT POINT A, THEN BACK DOWN THROUGH POINT B. WHILE YOU STILL HAVE A LOOP ON TOP SIDE COME BACK UP AT POINT C, PULL THE LOOP OVER THE NEEDLE AND PULL TO FORM LOOP, GOING BACK DOWN ON OTHER SIDE(POINT D ) OF LOOP TO SECURE. DO THIS 5-6 TIMES FOR PETALS. ADDS A NICE LITTLE TOUCH TO THE SWEATER. FOR THE SWEATER NECK OPENING, EITHER HAND STITCH EDGES UNDER OR ATTACH SOME LACE, OR THE EDGE OF AN OLD DOILY. SEW IT ON SO SEAM IS ON THE UNDER SIDE AND NOT SHOWING. RIGHT SIDE OF DOILY AGAINST WRONG SIDE OF THE SWEATER, FLIP IT OVER TO

FRONT, PRESS AND TACK IN PLACE. SET SWEATER ASIDE FOR NOW. SEW THE CHOCOLATE BUNNY TRACE THE CANDY BUNNY ONTO A DOUBLE LAYER OF MUSLIN. SEW ON TRACE LINE. CUT OUT. TURN AND STUFF. WHIP STITCH THE OPENING CLOSED. WITH THE SAME THREAD AND NEEDLE, SEW IN AND OUT GOING DOWN BETWEEN EARS TO STITCH WHERE SHOWN. THEN GO BACK AND FORTH, FROM SIDE TO SIDE A FEW TIMES TO FORM INDENTS FOR THE EYES. NEXT TAKE SOME ANTIQUE WHITE CRAFT PAINT AND PAINT THE ENTIRE BUNNY WITH THE PAINT. DO NOT THIN PAINT ANY. ADD A SECOND COAT IF NEEDED. LET DRY. AFTER IT IS DRY, BRUSH ENTIRE BUNNY WITH MOD PODGE GLOSSY (YOU CAN THIN OUT WHITE CRAFT GLUE AND USE IT). LAY ON FOIL TO DRY. BE CAREFUL IT WILL STICK, I DO ONE SIDE AT A TIME AND USE NON STICK FOIL. DO A SECOND COAT TO ADD MORE SHINE, UNTIL IT LOOKS LIKE A PIECE OF CHOCOLATE. SET ASIDE. PAINT AND STAIN FOR MY DRESS AND SWEATER I USED A WALNUT CRYSTAL STAIN FOR THIS. IF YOU HAVE SOME OF THESE, MIX UP A BATCH FOR THIS, DO NOT GO TO DARK. OTHER WISE, USE COFFEE STAIN. ADD 4-5 TBLS. OF INSTANT COFFEE TO 2 CUPS OF BOILING WATER. DIP THE DRESS AND SWEATER IN THIS, WRING OUT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. LAY FLAT TO DRY. IF YOU OVEN DRY, BE CAREFUL OF THE SWEATER, IT MAY MELT DEPENDING ON THE FIBER IT IS MADE OF. AFTER THESE DRY. YOU MAY WANT TO PRESS THE WRINKLES OUT SOME. SET THE ASIDE. USE THE REMAINING STAIN TO THIN PAINT. (MAKE SURE IT HAS COOLED) TAKE YOUR NUTMEG BROWN CRAFT PAINT. YOU WILL NEED LOTS. I BUY A TALL 8 OZ BOTTLE AND USED ABOUT 3/4 OF IT. SO DUMP THAT MUCH IN A CONTAINER, ADD 3-4 TBLS. OF ANTIQUE WHITE TO LIGHTEN SOME. STIR TO BLEND. NOW ADD A BIT OF THE COFFEE AT A TIME TO THIN OUT. YOU WANT IT THIN ENOUGH TO PAINT ON TO THE BATTING, NO THINNER. NOW START PAINTING YOUR WHOLE RABBIT WITH THIS. START AT THE HARD PLACES LIKE THE BOTTOM OF THE EARS, AND DO THEM FIRST THEN THE BIG AREAS. THIS BATTING WILL SOAK THIS UP, AND WHITE PLACES MAY SHOW UP, SO GO OVER THEM AGAIN FOR NOW. KEEP ANY PAINT YOU HAVE LEFT UNTIL IT IS DRY, BECAUSE A FEW MORE SPOTS WILL SHOW UP. LAY THIS OUT ON A FOIL LINED COOKIE SHEET TO DRY. HE WILL DRY IN THE OVEN FASTER SINCE HE WILL BE PLENTY WET. TURN OVEN ON TO 250 TO WARM UP, SHUT OFF, PLACE TRAY INSIDE TO SIT. DO NOT LEAVE TRAY IN OVEN WHILE REWARMING IT. ONCE YOUR RABBIT IS DRY. TOUCH UP ANY PLACES YOU NEED TO AND LET DRY AGAIN. WHEN DRY, TAKE A LITTLE ANTIQUE WHITE PAINT ON A PAPER PLATE, DIP YOUR DRY BRUSH IN IT, AND DAB OFF EXCESS. BLEND INTO EARS,

KEEP DOING THIS UNTIL DESIRED EFFECT. YOU CAN DAB YOUR BRUSH INTO THE LEFT OVER BROWN PAINT MIX TO BLEND ALONG THE EDGES OF THE WHITE TO SOFTEN IT AND BLEND IN. DO THE SAME IN THE AREA WHERE THE EYES WILL BE. JUST MAKE A OVAL EGG SHAPE IN THE EYE AREA. AGAIN LET THIS DRY. PUT HER TOGETHER TAKE THE RABBITS BODY, AND WITH THREAD AND NEEDLE GO BACK AND FORTH IN THE CENTER OF THE EYE AREA, PULLING TO INDENT. ATTACH EYES. EITHER USE BLACK BEADS AND SEW OR GLUE ON, OR USE SMALL 1/4 INCH BLACK BUTTONS. NEXT USE 3 STRANDS OF PINK EMBROIDERY THREAD AND USING SATIN STITCH, STITCH THE NOSE ON AT THE POINT AT THE END OF THE GUSSET, USE THE SEAM AS YOUR GUIDE. FILL IN. NEXT TAKE SOME BLACK EMBROIDERY THREAD AND REFER TO DIAGRAM. COME UP AT POINT A THIS WILL BE THE MOUTH, GO STRAIGHT ACROSS TO POINT B, AND GO BACK DOWN IN, LEAVING SOME THREAD LOOSE ON TOP. COME UP AT POINT C AND BRING THE LOOSE THREAD UP OVER THE NEEDLE TO FORM THE UPWARD v, THEN GO BACK DOWN AT POINT D RIGHT UNDER THE NOSE. I GO BACK IN AND OUT OF A FEW OF THE HOLES I ALREADY STITCHED IN TO SECURE MY THREAD, THEN CUT OFF. PULL THE DRESS ON OVER THE HEAD OF THE RABBIT. WHIP STITCH THE BACK OPENING CLOSED. PUT HER SWEATER ON, ADJUST HER SLEEVES AND THE FRONT SO IT HANGS HOW YOU WANT. THEN TAKE THE ONE RAW EDGE OPENING IN THE FRONT AND FOLD THE EDGE UNDER SOME AND WITH A MATCHING THREAD, LIGHTLY WHIP INTO PLACE. NOW FOLD IT OVER THE FRONT AS FAR AS YOU NEED TO MAKE THE SWEATER HAVE A GOOD FIT, AND THE NECK NOT TO LOOSE. CLOSE THE FRONT BY WHIP STITCHING THIS ALSO WITH SMALL STITCHES BOTTOM TO TOP. NOW SEW ON YOUR TINY BUTTONS TO HOLD MORE. I GOT THESE REALLY SMALL BUTTONS AT WAL-MART. I THINK JOANNS CARRIES THEM ALSO. PUT YOUR HANDS UP UNDER HER DRESS ON BOTH SIDES TO FAN OUT BEFORE SITTING HER. PLACE HER WHITE CHOCOLATE BUNNY IN HER HANDS AS YOU CHOSE. I HOPE YOU LIKED MAKING HER, AND YOURS TURNED OUT JUST AS SWEET LOOKING!!! SET HER WITH A SMALL BASKET FOR A GREAT EASTER DISPLAY.
