Each page features adorable embroidered animal designs with fringe elements as well as embroidered motifs for counting. 2 Read all instructions before beginning. Instructions: 1. Prepare embroidered page panels: Cut twelve canvas panels 10" x 12". Cut twelve fusible interfacing panels 10" x 12". Fuse one interfacing panel to each wrong side of the canvas panels. Mark center of each canvas panel on the right side. Complete the embroidery of each page panel, including front and back cover panels. Add the eyelet tab to each page panel, beginning with the front cover panel: Note: If your embroidery field is larger than 5" x 7" (130mm x 180mm), you may choose to combine the eyelet tab design with each page design in the editing area of your embroidery machine before beginning the embroidery simply skip color 1 of the eyelet tab. Or use editing software to combine designs and eliminate color 1 of the eyelet tab. Securely hoop a layer of paper-backed self-adhesive stabilizer in hoop. Peel away the protective paper. Stitch Color 1 of the left eyelet tab (Design # SWNCIRC133). This is a positioning guideline. Position the embroidered panel over the positioning lines. The positioning lines should fit equally within the satin stitched border along the LEFT edge of the embroidered panel. Also turn the hoop over to the underside, you can easily double check the positioning; adjust if necessary. Stitch the remaining colors of the eyelet tab on the embroidered panel; gently remove excess stabilizer. Repeat this same process for page panels 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. Using the right eyelet band (Design # SWNCIRC134) for the following page panels: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and the back cover panel. Be certain to position the eyelet band along the RIGHT edge of these panels. 3

4 3. Cut fringe elements within the designs. Note: Each page of the book, as well as most of the stand-alone accent designs, feature one or more fringe element. Fringe elements are created from wide, satin stitched rows that are secured at one edge by stitching. To transform the satin stitching into fringe, thread is cut on the back of the design. When cutting thread, be sure to cut along the unsecured thread edge. Working from the back side of each page panel, position thread snips along the unsecured edge of the fringe satin stitching and cut, creating a straight cut thread fringe. Optional: To create looped thread fringe, position thread snips under the bobbin thread along the unsecured edge of the fringe satin stitching and cut. Fringe element include: Bear ears, cheeks, chest, feathers in cap, and select front legs Bird tail Circus platform (yellow trim) Circus tent awning (yellow trim) Elephant head, chin, tail, and blanket (yellow trim) Giraffe horn tufts, ears, mane, tail, and front leg Horse mane, and blanket (yellow trim) Lion mane, chin, and tail Monkey head top and arms Seal cheeks Select dog ears, and select front and back legs Sun rays Tiger head top, ears, chest, and tail 4

5 4. Assemble embroidered page panels into pairs: Punch a hole in the center of each eyelet using an eyelet punch. Pair page panels together: Front cover and page 1 Page 2 and page 3 Page 4 and page 5 Page 6 and page 7 5

6 Page 8 and page 9 Page 10 and back cover. Trim the front cover and even numbered panels ½" away from the outer edges of the satin stitching. Trimmed panel should measure approximately 7¹/8" x 8". Spray temporary adhesive spray on the untrimmed odd numbered and back cover panels. Or, you may prefer to use basting tape or glue pen. Place paired panels wrong sides together, aligning the trimmed panel to its untrimmed partner panel. Align the outer satin stitched edges as accurately as possible; the eyelets should also align. Pin through layers, only if needed. Wind a bobbin using the same thread you will use in the needle for the next steps to complete each page. Using a sewing machine, baste the panels together, straight stitching along the edge of the trimmed panel. Try to keep the lines of stitching a scant ¼" and a ¹/8" from the cut edges. 6

7 Trim the back page to the same size as the front page. Repeat process, combining paired panels into pages. Set up the sewing machine to stitch a satin stitch 4.5 width and 1.5 length along the cut edges of the embroidered pages. Finish each page edge with a satin stitch, 5.5 width and.8 length. Cover with a final row of satin stitching 6.5 width and.8 length Note: If using a zigzag stitch, you may wish to shorten the stitch lengths for each step for nicer coverage. 5. Complete Book: Place pages in numeric order, beginning with the front cover. 7

8 Sew the book together: Option 1 Cut five 10" lengths of ribbon. Insert one ribbon through each stack of eyelets using a large eyed needle or bodkin. Tie a knot with each ribbon and trim ends, if desired. Seal the ribbon ends with seam sealant. 8

9 Option 2 Cut one 36" length of ribbon. Thread one end through a large eyed needle or bodkin. Insert the needle down through the first stack of eyelets at the top edge of the book. Pull the ribbon through the eyelets, leaving a 6" tail. Bring the needle/ribbon up through the next eyelet stack. Pull most of the ribbon length through before inserting the needle/ribbon down through the third stack of eyelets. Then bring the needle/ribbon up through the fourth stack of eyelets. Finally insert the needle/ ribbon down into the last stack of eyelets at the lower edge of the book. Bring the needle/ribbon back through the fourth stack of eyelets, being carefully not to sew through the ribbon. Insert the needle down into the third stack of eyelets, again taking care to not put the needle through the ribbon. Finally, bring the needle/ribbon up through the second eyelet stack, again do not stitch through the ribbon. Pull the ribbon enough to bring the pages snugly together. 9

10 Tie ribbon ends together with a bow. Trim ends, if needed. Seal the ribbon ends with seam sealant, if desired. 6. Add the final touch: Sign and date the back cover using an archival quality permanent fabric pen or marker. For other exciting projects like this one, visit our website at
