Read all instructions before beginning. Instructions: 1. Prepare embroidery designs. Using editing software, such as Amazing Designs Edit N Stitch 2.0, reduce design RS103 to 71.8mm x 139mm; save with new name. Follow the manufacturer s instructions for setting up your machine for computerized embroidery and import all designs used. 2. Prepare and cut fabrics and batting. Starch center panel fabric well with spray starch or sizing and press. Cut fabric and batting: Top fabric and binding: cut one 15½ x 30 rectangle for the quilt top and three 2½ x 45 strips for binding Backing fabric: cut one 31½ x 17 rectangle Batting: cut one 31 x 16½ rectangle 3. Print and assemble placement guide and transfer embroidery positions to the fabric. Print placement guide from these instructions, pages 12 17; a total of 6 pages. Overlap lines AA and BB, matching the boxes, on the pattern sheets to complete the upper and lower portions of the guide; tape. Overlap upper and lower sections, matching the boxes of CC; tape. 2
Poke holes in placement guide with an awl to indicate center of each design as well as ends of crosshatch lines for each design. Center the placement guide over the fabric; tape in place using Sewer s Fix-It-Tape. Using an air- or water-erasable fabric marking pen or pencil, mark the top fabric through the holes for the center and crosshatch positions for each design of the center panel; remove the placement guide. Using a ruler, connect the dots from each design creating a crosshatch and draw an arrow head indicating the top of the design by referring to the placement guide. Note: It is helpful to print templates of each design to aid in positioning the fabric within the hoop. Using translucent foundation paper, print one template of each design used and trim away excess paper around stitch field; tape to table topper fabric with Sewer s Fix-It-Tape prior to aligning design in the hoop. Although you can use conventional printer paper to print templates, using translucent foundation paper will allow you to see through the paper making it easier to align the template on the crosshatch mark. 4. Layer the table runner. Tape the backing, wrong side up, to a flat surface using Sewer s Fix-It-Tape. The backing should be smooth, but not stretched. 3
Using temporary adhesive spray, spray one side of the batting. With adhesive side facing down, center the batting over the backing and press in place. Spray the top of the batting, and then center the quilt top fabric over the batting, right side up; press in place. 5. Prepare table runner for embroidery and embroider. Cut self-adhesive stabilizer of your choice large enough to fit embroidery hoop with a stitch field size of 8 x 8 (200mm x 200mm) or larger, and hoop release liner side up. Score and peel away release liner exposing adhesive. Note: using an adhesive stabilizer allows you to embroider without hooping the fabric, which can create unsightly hoop marks or impressions on your embroidery and fabric. 4
Embroider the center diamond motif, Design #RS104, first. Secure the table topper over the stabilizer aligning the vertical and horizontal lines of the drawn crosshatch mark (or of the template) with the center markings of the hoop; ensure that the design is accurately positioned using drawn arrowhead as a reference. Embroider. Repeat the process embroidering the remaining designs in the following order: Left and right center diamond motifs, Design #RS114 and Design #RS106. Four center feather motifs, Design #RS103. 5
Four center corner feather motifs, Design #RS103 reducing in size to 71.8 mm x 139 mm, as instructed above in step 1. Two flowers in the center of the outer border, Design #RS102. Twelve border motifs, Design #RS105, overlapping the center circle of the flower. Note: using editing software, such as Amazing Designs Edit N Stitch 2.0, you can rotate Design #RS and then merge another Design # RS105 with the rotated version and overlap the center circle. Print a template and position this merged combination in place of the two separate designs. 6
Helpful Tip: Conserve stabilizer using a patching technique, rather than hooping a new piece. After stitching a design, remove the table runner from the stabilizer leaving the stabilizer in the hoop, cutting away stabilizer if needed. Cut a rectangle of the adhesive-backed stabilizer 1 larger than the hole on each edge. Remove the release liner apply the stabilizer patch to the underside of the hooped stabilizer. Position the table runner for the next design and continue embroidering. You can patch the stabilizer in the hoop as long as it still has enough adhesive to securely hold the table runner in place. 6. Prepare table runner for binding. Remove excess stabilizer and pencil or pen markings according to manufacturer s instructions. Gently press embroidered table runner face down on a padded pressing surface or towel. Trim table runner to 15½ x 30, centering the embroidery within the area. 7. Prepare the binding. Join short edges of the binding strips, right sides together, using a diagonal seam to reduce bulk. Trim seam allowances to ¼ ; press seam open. 7
Square one end of the binding strip using a gridded ruler for accuracy. Position binding on the ironing board, wrong side up. Bring upper corner of the squared end down to the lower cut edge. A triangle showing the right side of the binding is visible; press fold that forms. Fold the binding in half, wrong sides together, meeting lengthwise edges; press. 8. Bind outer edges of the table runner. Mark right side of the table runner ¼ from each corner. Meet the angle-folded end of the binding to the right side of the table runner, meeting cut edges and starting in the center of one side. Stitch the binding to the table runner with ¼ seam, beginning 4 from the end of the binding and stopping at the marked point at the corner; lock stitches. 8
Fold binding up, creating a 45 angle, aligning cut edge of binding to cut edge of table runner. Fold binding down, meeting binding fold to top edge of table runner and binding cut edge to side edges. Stitch a ¼ seam, beginning at the folded edge. Repeat at remaining corners. 9. Join binding ends. Smooth the binding tail over the pressed diagonal fold at the start of the binding. Mark the tail at the exact point where it covers the inside corner of the triangle formed by the diagonal press at the binding beginning. Trim the binding tail exactly square at the marking. 9
Meet binding ends, right sides together, with the diagonal fold covering the binding tail; pin inner cut edges together. Open binding folds; turn to expose the diagonal pressed fold at the beginning of the binding. This provides a stitching line. Stitch along the diagonal fold, right sides together. Test fit by refolding the binding. If necessary, re-stitch, adjusting seam allowance. Trim seam to ¼. Press seam open. Refold binding and stitch remainder of binding seam. Fold and press the binding away from the quilt. Then fold the binding to the wrong side, covering the stitching line and tucking in corners to form miters. Pin and stitch binding in place. Pin binding in place, or use Binding and Hem Clips. 10
Secure the folded-under binding edge by stitching in the ditch, from the right side, sewing in the well of the seam through all layers to catch the folded edge on the back of the table runner. Or, hand stitch the folded edge in place. 10. Optional: Embellish the table runner with 3mm Aurora Borealis Swarovski Hot-fix Crystals Preheat Hot-fix Applicator Wand. Randomly position two or three crystals glue side down in each of the bubble areas of the diamond and border motifs. Position one crystal in each of the flower petals. Use Hot-fix Applicator Wand to affix the crystals to the table runner by heating each crystal for 15 to 20 seconds. Placement Guide sheets following; on the next 6 pages.
