Basic Instructions: Note: Basic instructions apply to all bookmarks. Simply select the design of your choice and an appliqué fabric of your choice to coordinate; print a template to help determine fabric needed. 1. Prepare appliqué fabric. Press appliqué fabrics with iron. Cut two rectangles of fabric approximately 1 larger than the embroidery design on all sides. Note: use a printed template of the design to help determine size to cut fabric. Continued on page 2

2 2. Prepare machine and hoop. Wind bobbins with the last thread colors listed in the color sequence charts for satin stitched edges. Hoop two layers of Cut-away No Show Mesh stabilizer together in the embroidery hoop. 3. Embroider. Stitch color 1 for the appliqué placement outline. Spray the wrong side of one appliqué rectangle with temporary adhesive spray and position over the placement outline Embroider all colors of the bookmark interior design. Spray the wrong side of remaining appliqué rectangle with temporary adhesive spray and position, covering the embroidery design on the underside of the hoop. 2 Continued on page 3

3 Stitch the basting color which holds the underside appliqué in place. Then trim away excess appliqué fabric from the front and back of the bookmark. Satin stitch the final color(s). Note: Be certain to use matching bobbin(s) 4. Remove excess stabilizer and cut eyelet hole. Remove embroidery from hoop. Use a Stencil Cutter Tool to cleanly cut the bookmark from the stabilizer. Use the eyelet punch to cut open the bookmark hole. 3 Continued on page 4

4 5. Add a decorative tassel to the bookmark using one of the following methods. Single Ribbon: Cut one approximate 18 length of ribbon. Form loop meeting cut ends. Thread ends through bookmark eyelet. Bring ribbon ends through loop, gently pull ribbon ends to snug the loop close to the bookmark. Trim and add seam sealant to the ribbon ends, if desired. Single Ribbon with beads: Cut one approximate 24 length of ribbon. Form loop meeting cut end, thread ends through bookmark eyelet, ring ribbon ends through loop, and gently pull ribbon ends to snug the loop close to the bookmark (as demonstrated in step 5) Thread 3 to 5 beads onto the ribbon, and knot at ribbon ends, and then knot above the beads. Trim and add seam sealant to the ribbon ends, if desired. 4 Continued on page 5

5 Single Ribbon with buttons: Cut one approximate 18 length of ribbon. Form loop meeting cut end, thread ends through bookmark eyelet, ring ribbon ends through loop, and gently pull ribbon ends to snug the loop close to the bookmark (as demonstrated in step 5) Trim ribbon ends to the same length. Glue both ribbon ends between a matched pair of shankless decorative buttons, or standard covered buttons that you ve cut the shank off of or shankless covered buttons. Single Ribbon with bead dangle: Cut one approximate 16 length of ribbon. Form loop meeting cut end, thread ends through bookmark eyelet, ring ribbon ends through loop, and gently pull ribbon ends to snug the loop close to the bookmark (as demonstrated in step 5) Trim ribbon ends to the same length. Fit the jewelry crimp with eyelet over the matched ribbon ends and crimp securely with long nose jewelry pliers. Note: Fold the ribbon ends if needed to be entirely covered by the metal crimp. String 3 beads onto a jewelry head pin, cut jewelry head pin approximately ½ ¾ longer than the beads and then thread flat end through the crimp eyelet. Carefully curl the head pin wire around the long nose jewelry pliers tip, keeping it in the crimp eyelet to secure beads. 5 Continued on page 6

6 Multiple Ribbons/Fibers/Yarns: Cut approximate 16 lengths of ribbons, yarns, and decorative threads. Form loop, meeting cut ends and thread ends through bookmark eyelet. Bring ribbon ends through loop and gently pull ribbon ends to snug the loop close to the bookmark.
