2 Instructions: Note: Seam allowances are ¼. 1. Prepare purse fabric for embroidery. Prewash purse and lining fabrics following care instructions, if desired. Cut fusible interfacing to the same size as purse fabric Fuse interfacing to the wrong side of the purse fabric following manufacturer s instructions. Using an erasable fabric marking pen or pencil, mark a line 2 from one long cut edge of the interfaced fabric on the right side. 2 Meet the second cut edge of the interfaced fabric to the marked line. Place a pin at the fold. Draw a 7½ x 27 rectangle using the pin as a center guide. 2. Edit embroidery designs and print templates. Using editing software, such as Amazing Designs Edit N Stitch, horizontally mirror image design BS115; save design with new name. Using translucent foundation paper, print one template of design BS115, one template of the mirror imaged design BS115, and one template each of designs BSB128 and BSB129. Note: Although you can use conventional printer paper to print templates, using Translucent Foundation Paper will allow you to see through the paper making it easier to align the designs. Trim away excess paper around stitch field. 2

3 3. Position templates and prepare stabilizer in hoop. Using the below image as a guide, position the templates. Using the pin as a center guide, position design BS115 and the mirror imaged design BS115 templates so that designs nearly touch at the center and the bottom of the designs are ³/8 from the marked edge on a 7½ wide end; tape templates in place at the outer edges with Sewer s Fix It Tape. Position design BSB128 template and design BSB129 template above design BS115 template and the mirror imaged design BS115 template. Tape in place at the top edges with Sewer s Fix It Tape. Optional: In place of printing multiple templates, you may consider using an embroidery machine or embroidery editing software with merging capabilities, to merge designs together within a 6 x 10 or 8 x 8 embroidery field, and print one template if desired. 3

4 4. Prepare stabilizer in hoop and embroider designs. Cut self-adhesive tear-away stabilizer large enough to fit your embroidery hoop with a stitch field size of 4 x 4 (100mm x 100 mm) or larger, and hoop release liner side up. Score and peel away release liner exposing adhesive. Secure fabric over the stabilizer aligning the vertical and horizontal lines of the template for design BS115 with the center markings of the hoop. Follow the manufacturer s instructions for setting up your machine for computerized embroidery and import the designs and load design BS115. Attach hoop to the embroidery machine, and position the needle directly over the center of the template crosshair marking. Remove BS115 template along with tape and the pin; fold the templates for the other designs out of the embroidery stitch field. Embroider the design following the color chart included with the design CD. Remove excess stabilizer. Repeat the process embroidering the mirror imaged design BS115 followed by design BSB128, and then BSB Cut fabrics. Purse fabric (embroidered fabric): Cut one 2 crosswise strip following the marked cutting line (strap). Cut one 7½ x 27 rectangle, following the marked cutting line. Note: if embroidery design has shifted or fabric distorted, remark the 7½ x 27 prior to cutting out; the bottom of the design must be ³/8 from the fabric end. 2 x 42 strap 7½ x 27 purse Lining fabric: Cut one 7 x 27 rectangle (purse lining). 5 6. Construct the purse strap. Press the 2 strip of interfaced fabric in half, wrong sides together, meeting long cut edges. Open the pressed strip. Align long cut edges to the pressed fold, wrong sides together. Press folds. Fold again, meeting outer folds. Press. Edgestitch along the two folded edges. 7. Make pockets for the purse lining. Prepare the business card pocket. Fold the 4½ x 6½ rectangle in half, right sides together, meeting 4½ edges. Stitch a ¼ seam along the 4½ edge, leaving an opening for turning. 5

6 Press seam flat, then open. Refold the pocket, right sides together, aligning cut edges and offsetting the seam from a centered position. Stitch across open ends of the pocket using ¼ seam allowances. Press flat. Turn pocket right side out through the opening and press. Follow the same process to make the cell phone/sunglasses pocket, meeting 6 edges. 8. Attach pockets to the lining. Attach the business card pocket. Center and position the pocket 1¾ from one 7 edge of the flap lining, with the pocket s long edge parallel to the edge of the flap lining. Edgestitch the pocket in place, stitching along both long edges and one short end. The remaining short end remains open for inserting money or business cards. 1¾ 6

7 Attach the cell phone/sunglasses pocket. Center the pocket at the opposite end of the lining rectangle, placing the short edge of the pocket 6¾ from the cut edge of the lining. Edgestitch that edge of the pocket to the lining. 6¾ Pin the opposite short edge of the pocket 2 from the cut edge of the lining. Smooth the pocket over the lining panel until a small pleat forms at the lower end of the pocket. Pin in place. Edgestitch along both long edges of the pocket, backstitching at beginning and end of stitching Assemble the purse. Align short edges of the purse and lining, right sides together. Stitch ¼ seams, easing the interfaced fabric to the lining fabric. Press seam allowances toward the lining. Understitch, sewing both seam allowances to the lining. Lining right side Purse right side Reposition purse and lining rectangles right sides together, matching cut edges. Stitch ¼ seams, wrapping corners. Wrapped corners help give the purse sharp, crisp corners with minimal bulk. Fold end seams along the first stitching lines, wrapping seams toward the center of the rectangle. Stitch one side, sewing from folded edge to folded edge. Repeat on opposite long edge, leaving a 4 5 opening for turning. 7

8 Trim corner seam allowances. Turn the purse rectangle right side out. Press seam edges. Mark strap positions, measuring 7 from the embroidered end along the long flap edges. Baste strap ends into place, stitching ¼ from cut edges. 7 7 Align the nonembroidered edge of the purse just above the basted strap ends, placing purse right sides together. Pin and stitch a generous ¼ seam allowance, backstitching over the strap for reinforcement. Do not turn purse inside out yet. Shape the base of the purse. Fold the purse, meeting side seams. Tuck the fabric at the base of the purse down between the side seams to create two points bisected by the side seam. Pin-baste these two points. 8

9 Mark 1 from the point, perpendicular to the side seam, on each point. Stitch across each point through all layers, following the marked line. Mark and stitch 1 from point Turn purse right side out.
